Unified security and sd-wan have improved uptime and cut wan costs for multi-site branches
Users report stability issues in certain versions, which requires regular updates. Real-world attacks have also highlighted the need for urgent patching of vulnerabilities.Fortinet FortiGate, while a powerful and feature-rich web firewall, could improve in areas like firmware stability, documentation, and ease of use. The learning curve can be steep for some users. For beginners, support quality can vary, and frequent updates with occasional vulnerabilities call for careful patch management. However, once Fortinet FortiGate is configured, it remains highly reliable and efficient. Customer support needs improvement, as I find it very slow, with reports from other users reflecting that customer support is inadequate.

Good intrusion prevention, firewall, and VPN capabilities
Check Point Power-1 (EOL) has reached the end of its useful life, yet at the time, they could to make some changes such as: * Integration in the cloud. It is the new trend, however, Check Point has already contemplated this and already has its own cloud device. * Automation. As the automatic creation and application of policies, this would have been very beneficial. * Multi-factor authentication would have been a plus in security at the time. They must also make some improvements in their support departments since they do not comply with the SLAs that they provide.

Web filtering and traffic balancing have improved security for SMBs but threat insight still needs work
I assess the machine learning capabilities of SonicWall TZ in proactive threat detection to not be at the level of other vendors such as Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet, and Check Point. It is somewhere in between, so I would not recommend it for a large enterprise-level organization to rely on because it is not at that level. SonicWall TZ's content filtering service is reliable. We have used it, but it is not very reliable compared to brands such as Fortinet, Palo Alto Networks, or Check Point. What could be improved about SonicWall TZ is the threat intelligence, which by far is not at the level of vendors such as Fortinet, Palo Alto Networks, and Check Point. Their threat intelligence needs to be improved, as does the GUI, which is not as user-friendly compared to devices such as Fortinet. They could learn from their competitors by making the product more user-friendly. The product interface is not that user-friendly. By adopting a more user-friendly GUI, improving threat intelligence, and enhancing the available guides would be beneficial. In my understanding, in some cases, the KB articles and knowledge articles were not that efficient. They were useful, but they could have been more precise with the knowledge base articles. They need to provide more information about SonicWall TZ, specifically more documentation and more troubleshooting articles. Other than the threat intelligence and the user-friendly GUI, there are no other additional features that I can think of for SonicWall TZ in the future or at least in the next release to make it more competitive.

"All the features of Fortinet FortiGate are good; when customers have issues, it's very easy to talk them through the interface, and when they've got any support issues and they want to figure them out themselves, it's very easy for them to contact the FortiGate support."
"I rate this solution a nine out of ten."
"Typically, we use Fortinet FortiGate with edge devices for businesses, we also use them to integrate with a SIEM product and we use it for detailed analytics."

"The VPN allows users to connect remotely and securely."
"In my opinion it is right product at enterprise level network to protect the user and server from external and internal threats and attacks"
"Once you get past all the configuration issues, If you are on a rock-solid GA (Generally Available firmware), I don't know if I want to say it's bulletproof, however, the stability is really, really good."
"All these solutions are very helpful, easy to configure, and easy to troubleshoot."
"We like the central interface and we like the security features. Additionally, we use SonicWall with VPN connectivity and we have had no problems with SonicWall all these years."

Cons

"We are providing VoIP and the IP licensing could improve in Fortinet FortiGate SWG."
"I would rate the technical support of Fortinet a six or seven out of ten. It is not very helpful. I would like to see improvements in their support."
"It's one of the more expensive brands."
"Fortinet FortiGate could improve if it had a cloud-managed solution."
"The stability and performance of Fortinet FortiGate are mixed, as some features are quite good and very stable while others are quite new and very buggy."
"The command line is complicated, and the interface could be better."
"MTBF: Hardware failure is more common when compared to SonicWall or Cisco ASA."
"The solution must improve the support provided for customers around the globe, considering the time differences in different places."
"Multi-factor authentication would have been a plus in security at the time."
"I have to pay Check Point for every new service I integrate in the firewall and it also has license related issue which needs to renew every years."
"SonicWall should incorporate dynamic DNS services to eliminate the need for third-party solutions, particularly for environments using dynamic IP addresses."
"I don't get the support that I need from SonicWall."
"Although the pricing is good, it could always be lower. If we get to pay less, we're happier."
"The log analyzer in SonicWall TZ is something that they need to improve upon."
"It could probably be more user-friendly, and it could be more scalable with releases and subscriptions."
"The market seems to be going to a cloud-supported, new generation of firewall products. I think that's probably going to be important to us, the next time around."
"The technology in this particular version is very old."
"We would like to improve the rules configuration in SonicWall TZ. Sometimes the rules don't work."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The product is expensive. I rate its pricing a six out of ten."
"The price depends on the size of the company. From the beginning, you just want to know the internet bandwidths, speed, and the number of users to be able to offer the right product and model. They have a lot of products in FortiGate according to the size of the company, like 200D and 300D."
"Fortigate's pricing is competitive."
"In terms of the market, it's not a cheap product, but it's cost-effective."
"Its licenses cost the same for different subscription plans."
"The pricing is fair."
"The pricing depends on the FortiGate model we are using, ranging from $3,000 to $20,000 US dollars."
Information not available
"The product is not expensive, but it is not cheap."
"There are a few features that are licensed and there should be more that are licensed. The price of the solution is midrange compared to others, I have not had anyone complain."
"Its price is very high, which makes it difficult to convince the clients to buy this solution."
"The license that we purchased is good for three years."
"You need to purchase multiple licenses to manage multiple devices which is cost-prohibitive for the value you would receive."
"It has a yearly subscription."
"Its pricing is okay as compared to other solutions."
"It is a bit expensive. We have to purchase the license and the reporting part separately, which makes it a bit pricey. This is the main reason why we have thought of moving to another firewall. It would be good if they combine both of these."
