Proactive synthetic monitoring has reduced major incidents and provides global user experience insights
One thing that is not available is the multi-factor authentication feature concerning monitoring any applications. If an application depends upon MFA for its login flow, Catchpoint doesn't have the ability to bypass or monitor that flow for multi-factor authentication. This is one area where I would like to see improvement in the tool because many applications nowadays use multi-factor authentication, and Catchpoint does lag a bit in providing the end-to-end synthetic observability for applications dependent on MFA. This is one of the major areas needing improvement. Otherwise, Catchpoint has been one of the greatest tools in the synthetic monitoring or digital experience monitoring space, and I don't see anything else right now, but MFA is something that certainly needs some improvement.

User-level monitoring with near-real-time analytics boosts service availability

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Catchpoint provides a great amount of information."
"The solution offers three different ways of slicing data to look for abnormalities."
"We previously tried using Dynatrace, but it was really expensive for us, and when we discovered Catchpoint, we fell in love with it."
"Catchpoint's customer service and support are valuable."
"Catchpoint has positively impacted my organization because we have supported multiple customers and handled many escalations before they became critical issues."
"With Catchpoint, we analyze the time duration of issues to identify why these occurrences happen, allowing us to fix them quickly and provide availability of over 99.98%."
"The capacity to identify those issues regionally, nationally, and globally was an unbelievable return on our investment."
"We really need the API monitoring, as well as client side session monitoring, the global synthetic monitoring, to track the availability of the systems from the customer side."
"Real User Monitoring tools help proactively identify problems before they become critical by monitoring thresholds. There is a threshold and an SOA threshold."
"We found this to be a stable product."
"It offers near-real-time analytics, which is helpful."
"The Real User Monitor, with its transaction and synthetic transaction monitoring, is the typical classic in APM cases when the customer would like to do transaction monitoring. Micro Focus scores better where the underlying infrastructure management is also covered by Micro Focus tools."
"We use RUM and BSM and so far it has been really good at getting real user transactions from a real user monitor and then tying it to a BSM single view dashboard, where we get the whole realistic picture."
"The technical support is good at resolving issues."
"The Micro Focus technical support is quite good."
"The reporting feature is good for us."

Cons

"I would love to have RAM monitoring available in Catchpoint, which would be a nice feature for both synthetic and real user monitoring, and it would be an amazing tool that I would love to have, complementing each other."
"The product could include global monitoring and predictive analytics to identify widespread issues and cyber threats."
"The price and licensing are very, very high. They have to come down on the pricing to match with the industry standard."
"There are essentially a lot of quotas. Nobody wants to sit and manually create monitors for someone who uses synthetic monitoring."
"We would like the script creation feature of this solution to be improved, as it currently requires a complicated manual process to update the scripts."
"Documentation and online indexing are awful but have been improved recently."
"There's still too much manual involvement in getting customized test configurations out there. It's good, but it still takes a lot of effort. In other words, it's when you need to configure it to collect a specific variable and that kind of thing."
"The only thing that occasionally bugs me about Catchpoint is some aspects of the UI."
"Recently we have been facing some stability issues."
"Some issues with login errors."
"Everybody is moving away from traffic and installing agents on the application to do the job, but Micro Focus is using traditional ways to collect the traffic. They should change their architecture completely."
"Real User Monitor needs to cover more protocols to provide more in-depth information. It could also be better at monitoring voice-related traffic. There is currently no visibility in that channel."
"The solution's technical support presents a lot of issues with too many delays."
"This technology is considered to be older."
"When we want to monitor our encrypted traffic, this product doesn't work because our cipher is not supported."
"One final complaint I have is that the roadmap from the vendor is not clear, which makes it less attractive to some customers."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing is based on consumption and works on a point scale. For example, let's say I want to look at www.google.com, and I'm going to test it to see if it's there. It will bring back all this data that tells me how long it took to connect and how long it took to get the first byte. It will list all the resources on the page, showing that they all work and there are no broken links. It brings that data back. That test has an assigned point value depending on what you decide to extract from that test. If all I do is check to see whether it's available, it might be one point. I don't know the exact point values off-hand. This is just an example."
"The solution's pricing varies based on services and licensing models."
"The solution's pricing is comparable to the last tool we were using."
"In terms of licensing fees, I believe they were slightly higher."
"The price and licensing are very, very high. They have to come down on the pricing to match with the industry standard."
"The price is approximately €30,000 ($35,500 USD) for the enterprise edition."
"If I compare with other vendors, other vendors are more expensive"
"Compared to other tools, OpenText Real User Monitoring is an expensive solution."
"Not expensive."
