Gained full visibility and streamlined threat detection through behavior-based insights and AI integration
Initially, we got to have a lot of false positives when we onboarded, but nowadays it's quite smooth. We have fine-tuned our security policies and allowed different levels of policies to get rid of those false positives. Currently, we are getting a fairly good amount of incidents that are not false positives or benign, but actionable items. The process is streamlined. In the initial days, the operations used to get involved in a lot of benign and other activities, but now the process is streamlined. We are leveraging the auto-detection and remediation plans. The operations teams are now more involved in other business roles as well, not just looking into the logs and fetching out what's happening there. They have fixed a lot of things. Initially, they didn't have IAC code drift detection, cloud posture management, or security posture management, but they have those now. They purchased different vendors and did a merger with that. They have now Prisma Cloud that gets integrated and now they are working with Cortex Cloud. Everything that was negative has now been addressed, and the product altogether looks to be in a very better and mature shape now. Currently, it's more or less detecting the workloads with AI-based best practices. Since most organizations are consuming AI agents and other things, we are looking forward to seeing what other feature enhancements Palo Alto can support in that.

Doesn't have daily updates, which is important for healthcare IT
I face challenges with the exclusion policy - it still scans folders we told it not to, causing issues. When we contact support, they tell us to update the latest agent, but we can't do that immediately due to medical device protocols and validation testing. I wish support would try to understand our issues better instead of giving this standard response. The machine learning feature they use often tells us to upgrade the agent or add things to the exclusion list, which isn't unacceptable. It's a very good and new technology as a tool and antivirus. But sometimes, it doesn't work properly with our medical devices and products, quarantining files it shouldn't even after we add them to exclusions. This is tricky for us.

From my perspective, predictive analysis is an area for improvement. The rules are very rigid. The way protection works for Trend Micro ServerProtect is that you have to specifically apply specific rules to achieve particular actions or use cases. We have had instances where a malware is dropped and that malware executes, it is detected, but because the malware has been altered a little bit, either in naming or slight behavior changes, the system is not able to stop it. This is unless you harden the rule to say block anything that appears out of place. My thinking as a security expert is that malware will typically behave outside of the normal operation of the organization. Instead of saying malware behavior based on malware behavior, I would say use analytics to identify anything that is outside the normal behavior of files and systems in the course of business operation, then flag it so it can go for further evaluation to identify if it is a malicious file execution or otherwise. Today, there are some instances where legitimate operations occur because of the static rule definition, the agent would flag a normal activity as malicious and then sometimes flag malicious activities as normal. They need to work on that area. There is a lot of competition today. When Trend Micro ServerProtect initially came out, they were premium, so there was not a lot of competition. Competition is dropping their price. Trend Micro ServerProtect should also come down on the pricing to meet competition. Though it is a great solution and an integrated solution, I think they should also meet the market competition. CrowdStrike is there, Palo Alto is there. There are many other competitors, but they need to also look at what is happening. They need to work on it. I would not say that they are overly priced, but I think they can be more competitive, especially with their new credit allocation process.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Its ability to react to cyber data attacks is awesome. That is pretty much the use of it. What blows your mind is the ability to access your assets remotely and see what is actually going on with them. You can not only see them in a console. You can also react very rapidly to your assets that are compromised."
"It has a higher cost than other solutions, like CrowdStrike or Microsoft’s EDR tools, but it reduces the cost of our operations because it’s a new generation antivirus tool."
"I've found the solution to be highly scalable for enterprises."
"I have found the solution to be very easy in respect of the integration and configurable."
"The user interface of the solution is sophisticated and straightforward."
"They did what they said. This solution could apply to any scenario."
"Stability is a primary factor, and then there's the ease of distribution and policy management."
"We think that this product will help us grow, as it meets our needs currently and we can grow with it over time."
"Centralized dashboard online which can be used for managing a huge product."
"CylancePROTECT is going to tell you if there are any issues and you are going to be able to see everything from one single dashboard."
"The CylancePROTECT agent is very low on CPU usage, so it has virtually no adverse impact on my servers, desktops, or workstations."
"The ROI is immense, particularly in less dedicated labor hours, and much more in terms of security, particularly when new security flaws have recently appeared."
"Endpoints are protected in real-time without the need of a centralized server, whitelist, or the ability to connect to a central host in the cloud."
"It actively monitors the behavior and activity of processes and will, without hesitation, terminate at root anything it determines to be suspect."
"It is a good endpoint solution. It is very easy to manage and detect the threat immediately. It will take the necessary actions."
"CylancePROTECT works on AI technology, is always up to date, and uses very few resources on your devices."
"What I find most valuable in Trend Micro ServerProtect is virtualization."
"Smart Protection is a suite from Trend Micro for endpoint antivirus, called Apex One, that comes with sandbox and mail protection and allows us to protect OneDrive, SharePoint, and emails too."
"The most valuable features are the anti-malware and antivirus capabilities."
"I use this solution for data blocking, software protection, and frame protection."
"Technical support was perfect."
"It can be managed from the cloud."
"Technical support is top-notch; even in cases where we require additional capabilities, we pass that as a recommendation and they have been able to work with us."
"We have not had any issues in terms of stability."

Cons

"It would be good if they could make an exception for applications. Sometimes, it can be a bit of a challenge to make exceptions for certain applications that have been used as rogue."
"There's an overall lack of features."
"It is not easy to sell Cortex XDR, not because it isn't a good tool. Its marketing needs to be improved."
"Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks could improve by offering remote management. It would be useful to look at the client's issue to fix it."
"Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks could improve by adding a sandbox feature to better compete with their competitors which have it."
"Cortex does not offer an on-premises solution. However, some customers would prefer not to be on the cloud. It would be ideal if it could offer something on-prem as well."
"Limited remote connection."
"Technology evolves every day, so it would be nice if it gets more secure. It can also have more integration with other platforms."
"Work on the math model. We are catching a lot of false positives, which gets to be a pain at the start of a deployment."
"It needs real analysis of quarantined files. The EDR product isn't showing much right now."
"I would say one thing that they might need to bring in is protection for mobile devices."
"We would like to see secure integration and multi-factor authentication to be able to access the administration dashboard."
"Reporting is an area with shortcomings in CylancePROTECT that needs to be improved."
"If they can add more features on top of their Persona feature that would be ideal."
"Making the dashboards a bit modern to make them easier to search would also be helpful."
"Work on the math model. We are catching a lot of false positives, which gets to be a pain at the start of a deployment."
"We found that when we push Trend Micro from the console to our client's PCs, we need to manually restart the PC. I have 500 users and the manual input is time-consuming."
"I had some issues with technical support early on, there were some delays and I had difficulties raising a ticket with them."
"The solution should provide features to block devices, specific IPs or URLs"
"I would like to see SMS notifications sent as alerts, in case we do not have access to our email."
"It's more about awareness and maintaining competitive pricing because competition is growing."
"No built-in vulnerability scanner for management solutions."
"I would like to see SMS notifications sent as alerts, in case we do not have access to our email."
"From my perspective, predictive analysis is an area for improvement. Today, there are some instances where legitimate operations occur because of the static rule definition, the agent would flag a normal activity as malicious and then sometimes flag malicious activities as normal."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Cortex XDR's pricing is ok."

"It is cost-effective compared to similar solutions. It fits for the small businesses through to the big businesses."
"Cortex XDR is a costly solution."
"The price was fine."

"The licensing part of the product is too expensive compared to other solutions in the market."

"The monthly fee is $55 USD per user."
"It's not so heavily priced; rather, it's average and decent."
"Shop around for sure and be assured the price you pay will be close to other solutions available, but even at a slight mark-up from the other solutions, you are getting real endpoint protection versus nothing more than a cheap security blanket that might keep you warm at night."

"The product cost is about $5, per user, per month."
"In terms of price, the solution is in the middle; it's neither the cheapest nor the most expensive. I rate it three out of five for cost."

"The product is available at a reasonable price"
"This product has an annual subscription, but also offers MSP options."
"Pricewise, this product is okay."
