Successfully manage endpoint security and compliance while facing integration challenges
I have not come across any difficulties. I integrated it with ILMT (IBM License Metric Tool). It lets us identify all software being used in my organization with BigFix. It provides input of all types of software being used, including details and information about hardware specifications. I am more involved in software licensing and procurement, so I utilize this tool for procuring more licenses if needed for our company. After integration, we get different dashboards showcasing our IBM infrastructure, highlighting various issues in our environment that we can mitigate. I recommend BigFix to others. I rate BigFix a seven out of ten.

A user-friendly solution that has a good user interface, but its technical support is not good enough
Around 20 to 25 staff members are needed to deploy and maintain the solution, including two managers, one architect, and other implementers. IBM Tivoli Asset Management for IT does not adopt the latest technology. The solution can be integrated with our existing IT environment through some web services and connectors. Overall, I rate the solution a seven out of ten.

Management becomes easier with minimal complications, but improvement in support tools needed
Regarding areas of improvement for Symantec Endpoint Security, there are many changes, and the support portal tool is complicated compared to other tools. When trying to get service from Symantec, the process is complex. I'm not sure whether it's because of my project or something else. Though it is easy to manage, easy to get, easy to install, and works efficiently for managing policies, we faced a significant disadvantage. We wanted to add multiple hashes because of numerous new alerts coming, but we could only add them one by one, which is a considerable disadvantage in Symantec.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It is user-friendly."
"It has improved reliability upon delivery of software and has also helped reduce software expenses. The extensibility of BigFix helps to create custom solutions where we may have considered purchasing something instead."
"It covers multiple operating systems and helps with patch management."
"BigFix supports something known as Patch Policies, which allows users to define that whenever critical patches are released, they should get evaluated against machines and automatically deploy them."
"We are able to go from patching thousands of machines by twenty to thirty people to one person."
"It is a one-stop tool that allows you to do everything. It supports reporting, vulnerability management, patch management, and configuration. All things can be done in one tool."
"We found the implementation partner to be very supportive in terms of explaining and training the in-house resources and deploying the solution."
"Before we had BigFix, we had problems with some malware. BigFix allows us to immediately patch all instances of endpoints that were vulnerable to antivirus and initiate scans. That's key."
"IBM Tivoli Asset Management for IT is a user-friendly solution that has a good user interface."
"The most valuable feature is that I don't feel that it is there. It works in the background and doesn't interfere with my daily work. All the scans are done in the background. This is the biggest advantage of this product. It works because I have never been infected since I have been using this solution. Its interface is also very good."
"The pricing is pretty good."
"The technical support is very good. They have an Indian support team, so there are no delays in receiving support."
"Helps to protect our organization from known attacks."
"This solution helps in that I can control quite a few computers from our central location, with ease."
"Great security and very user friendly."
"Symantec Endpoint Security is easy to use, fast, and good for small and medium-sized businesses."
"The solution offers very good security features and is comparable to Sophos."

Cons

"We need a much better multi-tenant option."
"I would like better support on the backend."
"The reporting still needs improvement since customers want specific reporting, such as N-1 month patching reports."
"The solution needs to improve console speed. I would like to see one console that does everything. It doesn't need to have a big client console."
"I would like to see more integration with external data."
"BigFix should improve its compatibility with other platforms, such as Linux."
"The solution could improve by adding support drivers for different systems and equipment. When you have a lot of different computers if they could fix how to install any updates, firmware, or drivers for different systems or servers it would be good."
"I'm looking for them to make big web UI improvements."
"The solution’s initial setup is complex and technical support is not good enough."
"It can be improved in terms of features and integration. It should have more advanced features and more integration. Currently, it is just talking to their own solutions. They could add more artificial intelligence, more XDR, and more integration with other vendors so that we can do sharing of information with other vendors."
"I would like to see improvements in the anti-virus and the device control features."
"We wanted to add multiple hashes because of numerous new alerts coming, but we could only add them one by one, which is a considerable disadvantage in Symantec."
"SONAR could be improved. The false/positive rate is a little high."
"It would be perfect if it is capable of detecting or checking ransomware."
"The platform itself can be improved as there's no way to track how infections get into the organization."
"Any external device which is inserted into a computer should be subject to an auto-scan policy, to automatically scan it before accepting the device... They need to make it more user-friendly, so that when anyone puts in a USB stick it will be scanned, popping up any problems before it is used."
"The detection and response can always be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I can estimate the reduced cost of servers maintenance to approximatively $500,000."
"You are charged per server and per workstation when using BigFix. ManageEngine is a lot cheaper than BigFix. There are some additional costs, such as support."
"You get what we call the Platform Edition, which you get for free. The patch service is maybe $0.50 per workstation per month. Then there's the basic server cost, which is about $1.50 per server per month. You also get into Lifecycle which does power management, OSD remote control, and those types of things, and that might be about 10 times the price - which works out to about $13 per server and, maybe $5 per workstation per month."
"The cost is slightly high."
"It is too costly. It is one of the best tools, but because of pricing, not all clients support it. Its licensing is on a yearly basis."
"The price is very fair."
"I would stay with the Managed Virtual Server license model, which is a 1-to-1 license per OS whether it is virtual or physical."
"The license is subscription-based."
"IBM Tivoli Asset Management for IT is an expensive solution."
"The pricing is a little bit more expensive than other competitors, if you compare it to Kaspersky, for example, or McAfee."
"The price of Symantec End-User Endpoint Security is okay. When comparing the price of this solution is not expensive."
"Symantec Endpoint Security is a moderately priced solution."
"It is the better product, even if it is a little on the higher side."
"Compared to other products and brands here in Mexico, the price is okay, somewhere in the middle. Our solution is unique in that it can adapt to a variety of pricing and licensing constraints considering we have the corporate, government, and academic mandates. The"
"There is a yearly license."
"The pricing is good, very moderate, and the licensing is also good. It gives you more room to install a lot of endpoints and it even gives you the opportunity to install it on your mobile phone without any extra cost."
"This is not the cheapest product and I know others that are most cost-effective, although it is difficult to compare because it depends on the features."
