Ease of backup and restore improves data management with reliable support
The interface of BDRSuite Backup & Replication is pretty intuitive. Regarding their marketing strategy, I'm very bad at marketing. I always get a little edgy when people try to shove their product in my face. There are two sides to the story. If you don't know something exists, you might not even start to look for it unless you really know that you need it. If you are explicitly looking for a solution, then you'll find it. People that don't know that they should do backup don't have a place in IT. I rate BDRSuite Backup & Replication 8.5 out of 10.

User-friendly interface, and reasonably priced but the support needs improvement
While the solution is generally satisfactory, we encountered difficulties when attempting to seek assistance for issues we faced. Getting the necessary help proved to be quite challenging. The after-sales service is not ideal for French-speaking customers like us in Quebec. Unfortunately, there is no local support available for us. We are now able to work on more security-related tasks with Acronis, as they offer features such as antivirus, DLP, and various cybersecurity options. This is a significant improvement compared to our previous solution with Veeam Cloud Connect, where we were lacking such features. It also allows us to offer a wider range of security options to our customers.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"This solution has help us deliver an enterprise level data protection solution and reduced budgets."
"The main benefit is that it's inexpensive. We get a lot for a little bit of money. I'm very happy with the savings and with the features. It allows me to do everything I need."
"It's easy to restore."
"I am very pleased with the compression, especially with some of the larger SQL databases that need backup. The amount of compression is impressive."
"Vembu was the best."
"We are quite happy with the latest version and how it works."
"The backup is constant so it makes things simpler for me; to put it simply, it just works."
"The best part of BDRSuite is how user-friendly it is and how it does not require any maintenance after the initial setup."
"For my needs, the solution offers everything I want."
"Technical support is perfect, they are very helpful."
"With Veeam, you get a useable copy when you restore a backup."
"Veeam Cloud Connect is used extensively, and there's a plan to increase its usage in the future."
"The deployment is quite simple. Users are generally happy because of the familiarity they have with the features. The solution offers good transparency for the end-user."
"The solution is extremely stable; we haven't come across any bugs, crashes, or glitches."
"The most valuable features of Veeam Cloud Connect are its ease of use and the portal is very useful."
"I like the fact that it gives you the possibility to set the data out of the customer on-premises site and to have an off-site copy in your Cloud Data Center."

Cons

"Vembu will tell you the next scheduled backup, but it doesn't show you the last successful backup. I would have them include a column under "List of Backup Jobs" and have two other columns which say, "Last Successful Backup" and "Next Scheduled Backup", because you don't know now if it's backed up successfully. It just says, "The next scheduled time is this." You don't know from looking at that pane of glass when the last time it actually happened without digging further into reports."
"We do a lot of internal automation, so the Vembu API definitely has some gaps. The Vembu API could definitely use some improvement. We do rely a lot on automation outside of just the regular interface. We've noticed that the Vembu GUI is good, but we do leverage the APIs for a lot of stuff, and there's definitely some room for improvement there."
"The deduplication could be better. It doesn't give the level of deduplication that I would get with a product that's stored in a more standard file format. I would prefer to be able to use a non-deduplicated store on a third-party deduplicated medium."
"They need to improve their marketing because not many people are aware of it. People ask me what is Vembu, and I have to explain to them it is a good tool for backup and other things."
"We sent a letter complaining about how the lack of customer service has caused us problems. We're actually dumping Vembu and we're going with Veeam, and we're asking for our money back."
"They said they can support Red Hat Virtualization and we assumed that they support any compatible system but we found we need to do a network backup or a network image, which is not what it said on their website. I have had many discussions with them about where this component is. Initially, I was searching for a component which would back up Red Hat Virtualization. They said they support this in the same way they support Hyper-V and VMware. I haven't found the feature in their portal or in any of their software. They haven't made a special agent for it, in the way they did for Hyper-V."
"I have seen that the BDRSuite user interface can be less intuitive and more challenging to navigate compared to other similar products."
"What I would love to see on the dashboard are graphs, per backup job."
"The bandwidth optimization needs to be improved and have better efficiency so that you send fewer amounts of data from one site to the other."
"Doesn't back-up from KVM."
"I think Veeam Cloud Connect could be more stable, scalable, and secure. I think better pricing is needed."
"I think the pricing could be improved and I also think archiving could be improved."
"I also think the cost factor is a major issue for Veeam because it's a very expensive soluton especially when the client wants support for VMware."
"It would be helpful if the enterprise edition was more complete. It's not as complete as the enterprise plus edition is. For instance, in the enterprise version, we can only use one accelerator with the cloud provider. It means if I have my Cloud Connect, I cannot connect another site of mine with another cloud connect and use an accelerator of Veeam. They should change this."
"The solution needs to be more scalable. There should be no reason to set up Veeam Cloud Connect and have 10 servers in order to have a cloud backup. The initial setup could be easier."
"The biggest thing that Cloud Connect needs is native deduplication."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The licensing model is quite complicated; it's not simple. An example: If you have a physical server, you have to pay more for that license than you do for a host. It could be running several VMs and that could be a server VM as well. Then, for web station machines, there is no license for those machines and they have no desktop OS - the free version has all this functionality. Their license model needs to be looked at and simplified."
"I do remember that the pricing was based on a VMware or Hyper-V license, whereas on our end, it should be regarded as a VM-based license. I don't know why they make a difference at the Vembu level. We are currently on VMware migrating to Hyper-V, and we didn't want to buy licenses for VMware, but still have to buy them for Hyper-V. This the only thing which does not seem fully adequate."
"I prefer the way Vembu is licensed. When you look at Veeam or any other product, they price per node. Vembu is licensed per host. You just buy a host license and it backs up unlimited VMs within that host. The others charge per VM."
"I deployed Veeam and it worked very well, but the problem was that its price was very high. As a result, I searched for another solution and found Vembu. I deployed it and we have been happy with it. For us, the major difference was the pricing."
"BDRSuite, although cost-efficient, is more expensive than most other providers."
"The pricing of Vembu is one of its strong points. The license is not as much as other competitors, and it has a variety of licensing options: subscription-based, perpetual licenses, and a virtual machine license. You can design whatever license that you adopted to your environment, and that can support your environment without extra cost, providing more than you need. So, you can design a license that fits your environment and budget. The pricing is very good and can be used when the budget is tight."
"The pricing is reasonable. I am okay with it."
"BDRSuite is competitively priced."
"The licensing is MSP-based. It is connected to the portal, and you can deploy it to your end users as well."
"The price of the solution could be cheaper. There are monthly or yearly subscription options available. The annual subscription tends to be cheaper."
"We are looking into how we can extend the license of this product."
"The price of the solution is reasonable because of our good standing with the vendor."
"It's not the cheapest solution on the market but it's reliable, so we find it cost-effective."
"The pricing of Veeam Cloud Connect is good."
"The licensing fee is on a monthly basis."
"I think that this is one of the most cost-effective solutions."
