Unified security and sd-wan have improved uptime and cut wan costs for multi-site branches
Users report stability issues in certain versions, which requires regular updates. Real-world attacks have also highlighted the need for urgent patching of vulnerabilities.Fortinet FortiGate, while a powerful and feature-rich web firewall, could improve in areas like firmware stability, documentation, and ease of use. The learning curve can be steep for some users. For beginners, support quality can vary, and frequent updates with occasional vulnerabilities call for careful patch management. However, once Fortinet FortiGate is configured, it remains highly reliable and efficient. Customer support needs improvement, as I find it very slow, with reports from other users reflecting that customer support is inadequate.

Centralized firewall management has saved time and improved network security across locations
Barracuda CloudGen Firewall could be improved as it has a very high learning curve. It is definitely not a one and done firewall, as a one and done firewall requires a lot of dedicated time to get the machine running the way you want. To improve Barracuda CloudGen Firewall, there should be a lot of tutorials and videos online to help new users. Multiple ways to configure for the same service or feature takes time to determine your customized build. In addition to previous points, the interface can sometimes be clunky when trying to determine how it is organized or arranged.

Enhanced threat detection with integrated security features and good support
We are using application firewalling, WAF, and SD-WAN. The capabilities are mostly within the box. For example, you will get web application firewall WAF as part and parcel of this. SD-WAN is also bundled. It integrates with their SIEM and SOAR solutions very nicely. Lastly, the pricing point is very cost-efficient as well.

"The SD-WAN feature is the most valuable; this feature evolved from link load balancing and has helped us in terms of our uptime and prioritizing applications whenever we experience an outage."
"The solution is stable and reliable."
"Overall, we've been pretty happy with the solution."
"Inbound and outbound traffic analysis, rule creation wizard, and the GUI portal are among the key features."

"Barracuda CloudGen Firewall has positively impacted my organization by increasing the level of network protection against threats from twenty percent to forty-five percent."
"Its stability and SD-WAN features are the most valuable."
"Live monitoring of what is happening inside and on the interfaces, either ingress or egress."
"It's really a good and stable product; I have worked with multiple firewall products and I can say that this is really very robust, good hardware, and it's also good on the cloud side."
"It provides a lot of functionality adhering to the current trends."
"One of the most important parts is, there is auto-upgrade of the hardware every fourth year."
"The absolute best part of Sangfor NGAF is their support; it's a 24/7 support channel, and the last time I requested their assistance I got a reply within three minutes and they helped solve the problem immediately."
"It enables us to not only detect but also prevent various types of incoming threats, allowing us to take appropriate corrective actions and exercise control over the network."

"The built-in features function as intended, providing exceptional value."

Cons

"Like any hardware, it has finite scalability restrictions."
"The user interface needs a bit of upgrading."
"Technical support needs to be improved."
"Monitoring could be improved."
"Difficult to add or define, and not that easy to configure and manage."
"From a support perspective, I had more issues that I didn't think the person on my case handled the way I was expecting. We called them for a geolocation issue and we didn't get any proper assistance."
"The web filtering categories could improve in Fortinet FortiGate IPS. There are too many websites under the category of Unknown and the other categories are not featuring all the necessary sites."
"Technical support is a little slow and needs to be improved."
"The technical manuals, at times, have images that don't match the actual screens and are not always as clear as they could be on the configuration."
"The interface should be more user-friendly and it should be easier to configure."
"There should be improvements in the management aspect of the firewall. Specifically, it would be beneficial to merge the existing application policy with the main policy into a single unified policy to improve manageability."
"I would say technical support is lacking. They don't have strong technical support; their abilities are not so good."
"We are, however, not completely satisfied with their link redundancy handling capabilities."
"Can be underpowered if you choose to use all available add-on features. Just be careful when sizing your unit."
"I would like to see a more user-friendly dashboard and an easier interface."
"However, the solution isn’t perfect. It sometimes lets through emails incorrectlycategorized as safe but malicious. I believe the tool could be improved by incorporating artificial intelligence to enhance its email analysis capabilities, though I’m unsure if this feature is currently available."
"We have deployed many firewalls and have faced two or three faulty devices that we have to replace over a year because their power supply was faulty."
"Sangfor could improve by providing better real-time reporting, as the current reports don't offer the level of detail we need, especially for runtime insights."
"Sangfor NGAF could improve the policies and default criteria. They could be much better."
"The cost of licensing is very high compared to other firewalls available here. There should be improvements in hardware scalability, allowing for more storage and memory capacity."
"It does not offer any recommendations on how to mitigate or control attacks."
"The support for YouTube or the Internet is not enough."
"An area for improvement would be the number of ports defined on the box."
"The tool is expensive."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price of FortiGate is average and I would say that based on the top five products available on the market, it is in the affordable range."
"If you compare the price of Fortinet FortiGate IPS to other firewalls, Check Point is priced very high followed by Palo Alto and Sophos. Fortinet FortiGate IPS price is more reasonable."
"It is more affordable than Check Point and Palo Alto. Another thing is that all the features and the OS remain the same irrespective of the size of the device. Pricing-wise, Fortinet typically provides one-year support with the firewall appliance. There is also an option for three years which is how their licensing works."
"As far as I'm aware, in our case, it's just a yearly pricing arrangement with no additional licensing costs."
"Fortinet costs are 25% lower than the high-cost provider. There is an equipment cost and a recurring monthly cost for licenses and technical support."
"There is an annual license to use this solution. The prices have been increasing over the years."
"I rate FortiGate Next Generation Firewall a five out of ten for pricing."
"I had to pay for the license for the firewall, but it is guaranteed to have updates. I expect a good service for it. It was about €1000 for a year, and there was no additional cost."
"It is a product with a very transparent model of licensing. In the sense of hidden expenses, they do not exist with this model. "
"The platform is inexpensive compared to other vendors."
"It would be nice if the pricing and licensing offered for less."
"My advice is to try and evaluate it (Barracuda offers a trial period of one month)."
"The solution costs more than 800 Euros to purchase an F18, which is an entry model, and then another 500 Euros for instant replacement, and 500 Euros for energized updates. The total package would be around 1,900 Euros for five years license and all updates for an entry model."
"It's not the most expensive, but it's certainly not cheap."
"Pricing is good. Licensing is pretty much automatic if using Control Center."
"Purchasing through AWS Marketplace was good. We did it because it was easy."
"It costs about 8 to 10 thousand dollars per year for 500 users, standard licensing fees included."
"The product is very cost-effective compared to other brands or vendors."
"For four to five physical appliances for a licensed firewall, it costs approximately $4,000."
"The license of Sangfor NGAF can be purchased at different interval lengths, such as annually or three years. They offer a range of packages to choose from, such as combo or hybrid packages. We are using the complete solution package which includes IM, NGF and SSL VPN, and WAF."
"Sangfor is cheaper than competing vendors."
"Sangfor NGAF price is reasonable and there is an annual license. However, the maintenance cost can be a bit high."
"I rate the product price as one on a scale of one to ten, where one is low price and ten is high price."
"The pricing is reasonable."
