Pros
"The solution has extensive documentation and a very active community.""It can be used in virtually any environment we have onsite.""Bacula is pretty stable.""The most valuable features are the special plugins such as SAP HANA databases, Microsoft SQL, and various types of virtualization.""It works great and it provides you with several standard tools to restore your backup, even after a big failure.""It brought many advantages - such as the learning curve being very light.""It is easy to scale Bacula Enterprise even if your system is growing tremendously in data and servers."

"I like NetBackup's anomaly detection and Linux storage features.""I have found the Media Server Deduplication tool, deployment policies, and agentless features to be the most valuable features.""It has been around for so long, and it is very in-depth. It has a solution for everything that you can cover.""The solution offers the hardware and the software at the same time.""The most valuable feature is that you don't need any special connectivity - you just need to give your seller name, and then it automatically discovers all your virtual machines, which is a great benefit, especially in a bigger environment.""The deduplication feature is useful. Deduplication and compression features are what I like about NetBackup.""It has a very good user interface.""NetBackup is highly stable. We have more than 1,800 policies that run every day."

Cons
"We would like to see an improvement in the functionality of the GUI.""It could improve its interface or offer a specific screen for the manager of the company.""We are looking for a unique interface that can rule both enterprise and open source editions. Such a thing does not yet exist.""Easier setup and configuration, perhaps including a GUI, would be an improvement.""A more user-friendly interface (GUI) can be developed.""The initial setup could be a bit easier.""Bacula needs a graphical user interface because, for administrators, the command-line interface is okay, but for the average user it is not very easy."

More Bacula Enterprise Cons →

"The restore tool is not friendly to newcomers.""The deployment time is longer than it is with other products.""The biggest additional features needed are more cloud capabilities and security from ransomware.""The solution is quite expensive.""There is room for improvement in the implementation of Power servers.""The cost is expensive.""It is a very expensive solution. They should have a different scheme for selling it. They should also make it easy for us to switch from Solaris to Linux. We are having some trouble in migrating our actual catalog from Solaris to Linux.""NetBackup is a very old product, and it is based on Linux, which is not user-friendly."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "This is an open-source solution."
  • "We have a perpetual license."
  • More Bacula Enterprise Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Licensing was very expensive and did not scale well if needed to move between license models."
  • "Smaller virtualized environments will want to stick to a traditional licensing model if possible. It will likely be cheaper, but it is a pain to manage all the individual licenses for each client."
  • "So far I can only say that the license structure could be looked at to be aligned as either capacity-based or traditional."
  • "If you have a complex environment with dozens of different servers and apps, I recommend you look for TB licensing."
  • "The software and license are very expensive."
  • "Pricing is pretty costly as compared to the other products but worth investing for the long term and high ROI."
  • "Acceptable if you need to implement it for larger environments, e.g. over 1000 clients. For smaller setups it might be too expensive."
  • "The licensing model is cost-prohibitive as you scale out."

Veritas NetBackup is an enterprise-grade backup and recovery software solution. NetBackup securely restores and backs up files, raw partitions, and directories on a server known as a media server. A server protected by NetBackup is referred to as a NetBackup client. During the backup process, the NetBackup client sends the data through the network to the NetBackup media server, which chooses the appropriate storage media as the backup point.

    Reviews from Real Users

Mahdi B., Solution Architect and IT Consultant at Merdasco - Rayan Merdas Data Processing, says, “Veritas integrates well with the cloud, all databases, all operating systems, all hardware, and all software. Veritas also has solid malware and ransomware protection features. From time to time, we face a new kind of attack, and Veritas has always proven to be the best protection solution for some of my customers. Our customers who have faced ransomware attacks were able to recover their data in less than one day without any stress. Veritas is ransomware resilient and because of its implementation, it is not dependent on the operating system to work. Most of the functions of the Veritas software are isolated from the operating system and it's not dependent on the operating systems involved. This is very important. When some of our operating systems are infected by a virus, Veritas still works perfectly and protects our data. This feature is very well implemented in Veritas NetBackup.”

A PeerSpot user who is a General Manager at a comms service provider relates, “Veritas enterprise has many agents who perform the backup, whether it is a consistent backup or recorded backup. The solution has everything from the snapshot to the multiple database agents.”

Mir-Ali, Infrastructure Manager - Oracle SCM at a financial services firm, shares, “It covers all kinds of different architectures. Plus, it's very user-friendly and it is very reliable. Reliability is the most important thing because once the backup is done, if it is successful, then we're sure that it was successful and we will be able to restore it.”
