Room For Improvement

AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery needs upgrades in automation, user interface, and monitoring for efficient disaster recovery operations and planning.
Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery needs AI integration, simplified processes, compatibility enhancements, and better UI for improved user experience.
Our RPO improved from approximately three to four hours to less than one minute.
Software Engineer at a comms service provider with 11-50 employees
Because the replication is continuous and block-level, if a production server is hit by ransomware, the encrypted garbage data is often replicated to the DR site in near-real time.
Head Of Product & Engineering (Cpto) at a real estate/law firm with 11-50 employees
This would detail user activity directly in the ACL console for easier debugging and auditing.
DevOps Engineer at DivVerse Labs
It would be beneficial to deploy an AI model inside the vault for more accuracy and faster restoration by scanning the data for any anomalies or unusual behavior.
Pre Sales Manager at a tech services company with 51-200 employees
I would like more visibility into what is going on with the individual backup images and how they are being scanned.
Global Head, Storage at a financial services firm with 1,001-5,000 employees
My main problem is with the bare-metal recovery.
System Administrator at De Persgroep Publishing

Setup Cost

AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery provides scalable pricing, though some users find it costly, especially regarding CloudEndure's backup fees.
Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery pricing is praised for competitiveness and clarity, with room for improved bundling and hardware pricing.
In my case, since the cloud is basically a pay-as-you-go model, we only pay for the replication storage, data transfer, and small staging instances.
Data Engineer at a outsourcing company with 201-500 employees
Continuous replication minimizes data loss and the cost-efficient staging environment helps reduce infrastructure expenses compared to maintaining a full secondary disaster recovery site.
Software Engineer at INSTITUTE OF AERONAUTICAL ENGINEERING
pricing is fair, and you pay for the use.
Head Of Product & Engineering (Cpto) at a real estate/law firm with 11-50 employees
I do not consider Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery to be expensive as it provides value relative to the ransom that would need to be paid to restore data and the difficulties faced after an attack.
Pre Sales Manager at a tech services company with 51-200 employees
When you are hit by a ransomware attack, even the backup itself and the storage itself will be encrypted completely by the ransomware.
Assistant Manager Senior Systems Administrator at a financial services firm with 1,001-5,000 employees
Regarding pricing, I find it a lot cheaper than Veeam.
System Administrator at De Persgroep Publishing

Valuable Features

AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery ensures efficient, cost-effective disaster recovery with seamless integration, continuous replication, and minimal downtime risk.
Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery offers advanced analytics, isolation, and security features, enhancing data recovery and cybersecurity strategies.
AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery supports a wide range of source environments, including VMware, Hyper-V, physical servers, and other cloud providers, making it versatile for different IT infrastructures.
Senior Software Engineer at Thomson Reuters
The low RPO at a seconds-level replication and a fast recovery with a low RTO provide the most cost-effective way, paying mostly for storage until failover.
Software Engineer at a comms service provider with 11-50 employees
Overall, the best combination of AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery is its near real-time replication and quick recovery testing, and this makes the service very useful in real-world scenarios.
Data Engineer at a outsourcing company with 201-500 employees
The second advantage is restoration, as I can guarantee that the data inside the vault will be clean and can be restored quickly using a golden copy that has been identified as clean.
Pre Sales Manager at a tech services company with 51-200 employees
The main function of cyber recovery, which I find important, is the air gap protection, and that is the most important capability we are using against ransomware protection.
Data Protection Architect at a energy/utilities company with 1,001-5,000 employees
It helps my IT infrastructure be more secure mainly because we have replication of the backups on two physical sites, which is a plus.
System Administrator at De Persgroep Publishing

Continuous replication has protected critical servers and supports seamless disaster recovery drills
Some features that I personally feel can be improved are more simplified monitoring and reporting. As I previously mentioned, the console shows the replication status. If it had more detailed dashboards or built-in reports for DR readiness, it would make it easier for the teams to track everything in one place. Another improvement would be cost visibility and optimization guidance in optimizing the cost and also giving us visibility of it. Because the staging resources and replication storage are running continuously, it would be very helpful for organizations and users if AWS provided clearer cost insights, recommendations, and remediations to optimize the DR environment. It would also be useful if AWS added more automation options for application-level recovery, such as easier ways to handle IP changes, domain name system (DNS) updates, or application dependencies during failover. Additionally, we can simplify the setup and configuration process. For someone new to the service, understanding the staging settings, launch templates, and networking configurations can take some time. Setup simplicity and more detailed monitoring and alerting features would be beneficial. If we could add that, we can easily track the replication health, lag, and potential issues. Instead of relying on other additional tools for monitoring and alerting features, we can rely on AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery itself.

Modern data protection has ensured resilient backups and reliable recovery from cyber incidents
The biggest improvement that we would like to see for Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is how it can be part of the storage side of the world versus being a standalone solution. Currently, being a standalone product is neat, but it means we cannot integrate it with our overall storage strategy. I would prefer to purchase Dell storage and use that storage across both my day-to-day storage and the storage for Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery. In my current configuration, I have separate hardware for the backup and recovery and the cyber resilience, and I have different hardware for just storage. Integrating these two would be quite interesting. From my perspective, the integration between products is not really an obstacle. What matters more is how we as customers can simplify our technology hardware stack on site. From a software perspective, it would be beneficial if they created a solution where I could see my compute, storage, and backup recovery as a single pane of glass. A one-stop shop with one dashboard would be great. This opportunity exists for improvement. From a hardware perspective, simplifying it so I have less hardware on site would be valuable. I want to reduce my footprint with Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery. Reducing footprint is something all manufacturing organizations desire. When you look at all the manufacturing sites around the world, we always have to build a room for IT usage and data center rooms at our facilities. The smaller your footprint, the less cooling and less energy usage you need, which is a win-win scenario. This is what all of us as customers are looking for, which is smaller footprints.
