Network Emulation allows for performance testing of geographically-distributed users.
It is a great performance testing tool. The most valuable feature of the tool is its Avatar technology. Scripting is really fast, compared to other tools. It works for almost all major protocols, platforms and browsers. It makes complex scenarios simple, and we need minimal custom coding. It also provides features for Network Emulation, which is quite helpful in testing the performance for geographically-distributed users. Appvance can provide information from end to end (back-end and front-end), which makes it surpass other tools. The tool provides protocol level as well as browser level response time. And it can be integrated with major monitoring tools. As it is a web-based tool, it makes it easy to access anywhere anytime. All the team members can access the common information easily.

Provides multiple test environments and saves time, but should have something for inspecting mobile apps screens
With the desktop browser, we can inspect any screen with the web developer option, but they should provide something for mobiles so that we can quickly inspect elements on the device. To write the Selenium scripts, we require web locators. We have to capture them from the local and execute the script on Sauce Labs. If Sauce Labs can provide a solution where we can inspect any of the mobile devices online, it will be very helpful for us. I also faced an issue where during the execution time, the iCloud password used to expire within a certain period, which used to create pop-ups on the screen making our tests fail. That was one thing that we faced many times. If that can be improved, it will be very helpful.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It is a great performance testing tool."
"Sauce Labs is valuable to my job for the multitude of devices and browser/OS combinations they provide for real device testing."
"From an infrastructure support perspective, the number of VMs, browsers installations and versions that we would be maintaining without Sauce Labs would be a lot. This includes not only the infrastructure costs, but also the maintenance costs and people's time. The labor cost associated with maintaining all of that would be considerably high. In terms of efficiency, having concurrent VMs with various browser combinations available has allowed us to run multiple executions by all our teams."
"The ROI is 100%."
"Now we have more combinations that we had before and don't have to worry about scaling our script execution ourselves."
"A cross browser test platform is really important for a web designer, Sauce Lab providing a really fast, functional and with good quality service."
"Sauce Connect gave us ability to test an application that was hosted locally."
"The temporary storage they are giving is just awesome."
"So many devices and OSs to choose from, with live remote sessions, we could see real results and real looks of websites across all platforms we needed to check."

Cons

"Reporting features can be improved to provide more flexibility, collation, exporting in different formats, etc."
"Speeds up the time it takes to run end-to-end user interface (UI) tests inside their virtual machines (VMs)."
"Finding ways to debug our flakier tests is an ongoing pain for us (we've fought with our own tests' flakiness across all different providers, often e.g. due to some test steps using implicit rather than explicit waits)."
"Speed and connectivity need improvement."
"Stability needs improvement."
"The pricing model of Sauce Labs could be more flexible."
"I think there could be improvements in the way Sauce Labs provides support to its users and could maybe provide tutorial videos on its services."
"This product is not super scalable, because you have a very specific number of VMs that you can use."
"The testing process is difficult. I need to prove the complete competency of the tool, and I am finding that challenging."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"Their pricing is incredibly competitive."
"When you reach the Enterprise licensing tier, base level being with 10 concurrent test sessions, pricing is essentially per-unit-of-concurrency thereafter with a relatively linear increase and not much benefit for "bulk"."
"Now that we have an enterprise license, we no longer have to worry about minutes each month!"
"Go ahead please. Try it at a smaller scale."
"The pricing is definitely on the higher end, and there are other options that are more cost-effective."
"We did initially go with Sauce Labs because of the pricing and integration."
"Try the free trial and work with a Sauce Labs representative to see what package works best for your application(s)."
"The number of concurrent VMs that Sauce Labs provides depends on your purchase license level."
