Senior Technical Lead QA at a computer software company with 501-1,000 employees
Cloud-based Android testing has transformed how our teams reproduce issues and run remote QA sessions
Anbox Cloud can be improved mainly in ease of setup and operational simplicity. The platform is very powerful, but the initial configuration can feel complex, especially around infrastructure, networking, images, GPU support, and scaling. Better guided setup, clearer troubleshooting messages, and more production-ready templates would help a lot. I would also improve the monitoring and reporting experience, especially around session performance, resource usage, latency, and failures. For QA and operation teams, having clearer dashboards and logs would make it easier to detect problems quickly. Overall, it works well, but it could be more user-friendly for teams that do not have Linux, LXC, or cloud infrastructure experience. I would add that the documentation could be more scenario-based. The official docs cover the components, but real production examples would help more, specifically for scaling, GPU configuration, networking, image lifecycle, and troubleshooting failed sessions. Also, integrations could be stronger. Better out-of-the-box examples for CI/CD pipelines, monitoring tools, observability dashboards, and automated QA workflows would make adoption easier. I also would appreciate clearer guidance around cost optimization because when you scale Android instances in the cloud, resource planning becomes very important.

Has delivered consistent desktop experiences across remote locations and has supported multimedia workloads efficiently
I have utilized the HDX protocol for compression and audio-video capabilities. When users need to conduct meetings with customers or colleagues, they can use Teams solutions and open a bridge where video and audio are encapsulated within the ICA protocol, which is protected by SSL and certificates for security. This provides secure communication at good quality through the HDX protocol. HDX protocol has improved application performance as it is specifically designed for multimedia applications. If processing audio or video files, such as in telecom where discussions are recorded and then prepared as video or audio, this does not consume excessive bandwidth during the operation compared to a normal remote desktop connection provided by Microsoft. Everything is compressed and provides sufficient bandwidth for multiple people to perform similar tasks without interruption or session disconnection. All multimedia-related activities, such as playing content on YouTube, deliver a better experience with this protocol overall. I use multi-factor authentication for opening sessions to the data center where users access their machines or software. Multi-factor authentication has helped secure applications because users typically have two-way authentication software on their phones. They use a password first and then authenticate themselves through their mobile application to grant access to resources. This approach is effective because if a hacker attacks a user, they need more than just the password and username. They must also possess the device that provides authentication. The device typically has facial recognition, a password, and provides better security overall.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Overall, Anbox Cloud is a strong platform when you need scalable Android environments in the cloud, creating a more controlled, repeatable, and scalable Android workflow for QA, demos, and remote validation."
"We have an excellent experience with support from Canonical, as they provide great support and our experience with the support team has been excellent."
"Anbox Cloud positively impacts my organization by enabling us to run over 100 Android instances on a single server and maximizing infrastructure efficiencies."
"Anbox Cloud has helped us deliver faster to the market, automating testing and significantly improving testing cycles and time by 60 to 70%, resulting in faster time to market and increased customer satisfaction, which is up by at least 70 to 80%."
"It helps run Android and system containers using Ubuntu Pro."
"It is an excellent virtual office that works anywhere, anytime, and anyplace, and it is worth our investment."
"When you compare the cloud version to the on-premise Citrix environment, the cloud version wins out."
"The installation and maintenance are good."
"This is the leading solution in the world for remote work."
"There are many features that I like, but the stability over the Internet is exceptional. Even if there's bandwidth fluctuation or network jitter, it performs well, offering a seamless experience to end-users without noticeable disruptions."
"At this moment, 95 percent of our employees are using Citrix as the only tool to do their job."
"It saves 50% to 60% of the total cost of a new device that needs to be bought for any new employee or for a specific service."
"We can provide tons of applications with different settings, behaviors, and operating systems. It is the same way for the user. Then, we are totally transparent for the user to use a lot of totally different applications, which is the most important part of Citrix today."

Cons

"Anbox Cloud can be improved mainly in ease of setup and operational simplicity."
"In Brazil, it is difficult to find technical professionals with OpenStack or this technology skills."
"To improve Anbox Cloud, we can enhance the speed and flexibility of the platform."
"The video conferencing feature needs to be improved."
"When there are technical issues, sometimes we can't get on the cloud."
"The dashboard should be more user-friendly as the tabs are not organized clearly."
"Every employee complains about the performance or quality of their VDI."
"There is room for improvement on the hypervisor side, providing better integration between the hypervisor and the product line. I suspect that they haven't put the work into that because of the move to the cloud. They want everything to be cloud-hosted. But for folks like us, who will always be a hybrid model, that's of some concern."
"In terms of support they are lagging. They take a lot of time to respond."
"These days, Citrix lacks innovation, so I would rate the current product stack as an eight out of 10."
"The solution's cost has almost doubled this year, and it could be made cheaper."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"The licensing, in general, is expensive. A lot of customers battle to pay the amount. It's very difficult to ensure that your solution provides the business value that the customer is after."
"The Citrix licensing scheme is really straightforward and simple. It doesn't have hidden costs. You get what you pay for. It is easy to understand what is on the product, so it's simple to get a clear idea of how much it costs. Licensing is not an issue."
"The pricing is a little bit high, but it's good value for the product's stability and efficiency."
"If you look at cost, then you must look at the number of users that you are covering. If you are only using it for some users, then it is very expensive. However, if you have a massive amount of users, then it begins to be interesting to use Citrix. Because once you are managing thousands of servers with one guy, your maintenance costs decrease per user."
"In the past, the prices of the product were great. With the acquisition of Citrix by your company, the prices have drastically increased. For my company, it has become a bit of a problem to sell products from Citrix."
"The tool is expensive."
"I don't quite remember the specifics of what we had. I believe we had a 25-user license, and I don't recall it being overly expensive."
"The price of the solution could be less expensive. There are different versions to their solution and the price keeps increasing."
