Automated complex ETL workflows have reduced coding effort and improved data integration
One area for improvement is in integrating mostly the data which comes from telemetry, where I can see some sort of improvisations can be made. It is a massive amount of unstructured data, and I believe Alteryx is able to handle it, but there can be some improvements. Suggestions for improvements in Alteryx include areas for increasing efficiency, particularly in processing telemetry data, which involves dealing with large volumes of unstructured data. Additionally, I believe when we use filter tools immediately after the input source, there can be slowdowns when handling massive data. The user experience of Alteryx is generally good, but there are areas for improvement from a user's perspective, particularly regarding user interface enhancements. I think there's always room for improvement, but otherwise, Alteryx has been a great tool for me. We haven't experienced significant disruptions while increasing data volumes, though I sense there could be performance issues as data grows exponentially. This is an area that could use improvement in Alteryx.

Fast in taking unstructured data, processing it and spitting out all the different data types. The team moved to SSIS/SSRS, I suspect it didn’t fit in with the goal of creating a data warehouse.
The manual calculations and formulae. They were a bit complex. The formulae were a bit abstract. Not easy to understand. Not intuitive. I sat beside an SSIS guru and he took one look at them and said “Good luck Geoff”. I coded them all and after I left, I got a call from a techy there asking me what they were all about! He hadn’t a clue how to unravel them, even with documentation. Also, they managed to accidentally delete them all. No idea how they did that. After a few panic-filled phone calls, they dropped the whole thing. It was a mess there. Glad I left.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Alteryx offers a cognitive approach to better understand data and purposes."
"Alteryx allowed us to access all the data, blend it, and output it as a dashboard for the user to access any time they needed it."
"Alteryx integrates well; I can read data from a database on the web and import it into my Alteryx database, and it is very easy to use and quite user-friendly, which I enjoy."
"Shortens the time required to start analyzing data and looking for insights, minimizing the tasks that do not add value to the business and maximizing the analysis phase."
"The solution has been stable."
"It is a very user-friendly product that doesn’t require a strong technical background; you can build something within an hour."
"I found Alteryx's ability to modify data on the fly, using in-memory processing, very useful."
"Automation is the most valuable aspect for us. The ability to wrap business logic around the data is very helpful."
"It is excellent for data profiling."
"X88 gave a quick view of the quality of the data and a rapid way to fix issues before exporting for use."
"Pandora provides a quick, efficient way to analyze, control and improve data using integrated technology."
"The customer service was very good."
"We were easily able to merge the two sets of data and find the inconsistencies between the two allowing us to complete this part of the project in speedy fashion."
"It has given us the ability to build information that wasn’t otherwise there, to build confidence in our applications, to troubleshoot data effectively and focus our efforts on genuine errors."
"The product allowed us to complete the project on time and within budget and is continuing to be used on subsequent Data Migration/Integration projects."

Cons

"I think they should really work on integrating or have a capacity to integrate some algorithmic code. I think that's one of the most important things they need to be doing."
"This is a proprietary tool and maybe the open source part of it could be improved."
"It seems to me that it is not always user friendly."
"It should have Linux support. It currently supports only Windows. It does not support any other platform. Its price should also be lower. Their US partner management program is actually unresponsive. One of the reasons why we don't have a formalized partnership plan with them is because their partner management team is atrociously unresponsive. This is something that they need to change."
"The learning curve is long, and there is lack of e-learning; the tool is not user-friendly to a non-technical user."
"The GUI interface functions but it could stand to be updated to a more modern look and feel."
"The pricing seems high for my current needs. However, considering the benefits, it is easier to justify to management for broader company usage."
"The price for Alteryx Designer is reasonable but the price of the Alteryx Server for universal collaborations is too expensive."
"The product appears to be horizontally scalable, but is not something I would use in a large scale automated architecture."
"The free data profiler doesn't contain enough dashboards to give the user a better feel of the program."
"The online training is very useful but needs expanding and updating – it has loads of potential."
"The tool was very unstable and was constantly hogging the resources, even if was not operating at the moment."
"End to End connectivity could do with some improvement which I believe they are working on at this time."
"It is way, way over-priced in my opinion."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Alteryx is an expensive solution."
"The license price of the solution is expensive."
"The solution has a more costly license than other tools in the market."
"A designer and scheduler for $13K/year in total is pretty much earning you the money back in time and in other resources."
"Alteryx is generally more suited for medium—to large companies due to its potentially high licensing costs."
"Its price should be lower. The key thing that we see is that talking about ROI is an important element at the time of purchase. Cost becomes a factor in every discussion. Justifying the ROI for these kinds of workflows is always a challenge, and the only way to counter the challenge is by addressing the pricing."
"It can be a bit pricey, especially after the first year."
"We have a yearly cost that we pay for the licensing. We do not pay any costs in addition to the licensing fees."
