An easy-to-use automation solution with satisfying customer support
Sometimes, while getting data from a third-party product, like data sources that are not present in your system, Alteryx works a bit slowly. Even if you have a good configuration and you are pulling data from an SQL server like SAP, then the solution also has a slow work process. It shouldn't be that much slow if you are pulling ten thousand records, it should not take thirty minutes.

Intuitive interface and documentation make it simple to build jobs and APIs and logging helps pinpoint and resolve issues quickly
Talend is doing a lot of work at the moment, and it's not there yet, but the whole platform could be managed in a SaaS-type environment. You still need to have the Studio running on a virtual desktop or a PC. They will get to be able to do the whole thing inside your browser, so you don't need to install anything locally. It's down the track, and it's the nirvana that we were looking for in Boomi. But the biggest challenge they have is that the platform is so focused on the Studio for all of its development. They'll probably get there, but they have such a mature Studio client that it's a huge amount of work to get all of that functionality into a browser or SaaS platform. That's pretty much the biggest flaw with the Talend environment—being reliant on the Studio, which needed to be on a local machine. The only other thing is that you have to integrate into an API gateway. We're in Azure, so we use Microsoft Azure Gateway. It doesn't come with its own gateway, which is another sort of big plus side that we saw in Boomi. Talend isn't quite there yet with the API gateway. Other than that, it's bloody hard to find something because it just seems to be all good.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Alteryx Designer's user interface is great, as it is very user-friendly."
"I believe in the ability to connect to multiple data sources, as well as the ease of use to transform data and output data in a variety of formats."
"It has great UI."
"The product offers very good analytics."
"It helps them to create customized workflows, transform data, perform calculations, and consolidate multiple data sources into a target database."
"Workflow automation, in general, is valuable."
"The solution's ability to hold a huge amount of data in its memory is significant."
"For my daily analytics needs, the entire Alteryx Designer platform is beneficial."
"The most valuable features are definitely data integration, data preparation, and data stewardship."
"The most valuable features of Talend Open Studio are customization and integration."
"The API integration and big data approach are very good because of how you extract data from JSP files or big data web repositories like MongoDB."
"The main differentiator that I have seen between Talend and other data integration tools is the ability to view the data pipeline in the form of a program."
"The best thing I have found with Talend Open Studio is their major support for the lookups."
"It is user-friendly and the interface is good."
"The initial setup was quite straightforward. The deployment took between two and three days."
"The initial setup of the product was very easy."

Cons

"When configuring the Logix, the UA could be improved."
"Its price can be improved. It is too expensive for our country. Because of its high price, we can't sell Alteryx Designer in this region. We used to be their reseller partner. There is also an additional cost for automating the data and running the flows, which makes it even more expensive. It will be very good if they can let users automate the data for free. Other solutions like Tableau provide this feature for free."
"Alteryx Designer overall should be easier to use."
"It would be simpler if they provided a component where you could simply enter some parameters and see the results."
"Optimizing processing times is one area I would like to see improved in Alteryx Designer. Sometimes, the workflows take an extremely long time to run. There are days when I have had to wait two to three hours for a single process to complete. There needs to be a functionality to split the processes."
"Improving the key-based sign-on process and making it more user-friendly would be a benefit."
"I would like to be able to include small snippets of code inside of the solution. The tool has only drag-and-drop features to make it easy to use, but sometimes I feel like this makes it more complicated."
"The major concern in Alteryx Designer stems from the high costs attached to the product."
"I would say that writing to JSON is kind of a pain. It reads from a JSON file pretty well, but writing to a JSON file is not so great because its components are not good."
"The solution needs more integrations."
"The physical appearance of the product is an area of concern where improvements are required."
"We need more components to be more efficient. We use a lot of components, such as Salesforce, and it's not easy to use. There's are minor bugs and it's not easy to use some of the features."
"It is complicated to understand the configuration process for email components."
"In terms of features, it has all the features that I need. However, it consumes a lot of resources. It is using a lot of RAM, and they need to fix the issue related to resource consumption. It currently requires more than 24 gigabytes of RAM, which is a big amount of RAM."
"Talend Open Studio is in Java language, and right now, you can only use the debug functionality in Java. I see that people who know programming languages other than Java currently face difficulties."
"In version 6.2 we did encounter issues with the job servers and specifically with ESB. Version 6.3 is better but large jobs can cause the MDM server to fall over, requiring a reboot."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution is expensive. It has license fees, which are renewable every year."
"Alteryx Designer is an expensive solution."
"I rate the price of Alteryx Designer a ten on a scale of one to ten, where one is low price and ten is high price."
"I rate the price of Alteryx Designer as a five on a scale of one to ten, where one is extremely expensive, and ten is a highly cheap product."
"The pricing is bit expensive."
"The tool is priced high."
"Alteryx is a little bit expensive compared to competing solutions."
"It is too expensive for our country. We are a small country, so it is too difficult to sell this solution. With Alteryx Designer, if you want to automate the data and run the flows, you have to pay more money. We were trying to automate the flows, and we found out that people have to pay 600 more for this feature, which makes it even more expensive. We are a partner for Tableau, and we are working with Tableau Prep, which is like a mini Alteryx. In Tableau Prep, you can drag and drop and make new connections with the different data sources. You can make all the connections. You can also publish a source. You don't have to pay more money with Tableau. You pay like $5 per user per month to access it."
"Pricing is always a challenge. It is quite an expensive model, but because the platform is so simple to use, we haven't had to purchase any additional licenses."
"Price could be lower. It is getting too expensive when compared to some other solutions, which is actually a little bit concerning."
"Talend Open Studio is priced too high."
"For Talend Open Studio, there is a need to make yearly payments towards the licensing cost. Talend Open Studio is a bit expensive, in my opinion."
"It is an open-source tool which means it is a free solution."
"I am using the open-source version and it is free."
"Talend is free and you can download it."
"The paid version of this solution has a very high price, but even with the limitations, the Community version works fine."
