Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"We are able to customize this solution based on the customer's requirements.""The solution has a very good web interface. It makes it easy to manage everything.""The fibre ports that are 10 Gb capacity helped with the travel of a lot of regular as well as video data. Fibre can handle a lot more virtual data than copper twisted-pair, so we got a lot more data and a lot more traffic signals back through the fibre ports, faster, than with copper.""Enables direct access to clusters."

"The solution offers very good multi-routing.""We've enjoyed the fact that it has very good performance.""MikroTik Routers and Switches are stable""I like MikroTik's GUI. It's completely handy and easy to handle because of its GUI. Despite other brands like Cisco urging me to switch, I didn't because they don't have a GUI. This is the most comfortable thing in my project that anyone can use easily. It's effortless to maintain MikroTik routers because both screens make it very easy in GUI mode. You can easily interact with your hardware.""We have not had any downtime with it. It has been a solid performer that way.""We're very happy with what we are getting out of the solution in general. The features are good. They're comparable to other brands such as Cisco and HP.""The solution is stable.""I think they have very strong routers because they have multiple processors. I like its easy configuration with applications. For example, configuration with Linux, Iptables, and routing protocols."

Cons
"technical support response time is sometimes very slow.""In future versions, I would like to see improvements in networking speed.""There needs to be better integration with the interface.""I could see them possibly creating a more intuitive software. It's very user-friendly, but there are some things that aren't very intuitive when programming the switches."

"They can improve the way the user interface is laid out. Their user interface is slightly geeky. There is more than one way to do the same thing in the user interface, and they need to work on that.""It would be very good if these products are accessible via different kinds of shells and GUI. It will make these solutions very usable.""They need to create a license for IBS. I have a lot of clients that have spam on their networks.""Technical support could be better. They don't have good support like Cisco. It can also be more stable and scalable.""This product could offer better integration with VPNs.""Sometimes, when I need to reboot or change software, MikroTik crashes.""The solution needs to offer better documentation.""They should improve technical support and make direct access available to the customers."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The pricing is reasonable compared to Aruba and HPE."
  • More Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch Ethernet Switches Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "This product is cheaper than competing products by other vendors."
  • "There are not any external or hidden costs."
  • "The price-performance is great."
  • "MikroTik is very cost-effective and quite good for the price. It performs very well. For one of our customers, the existing setup comprises Cisco Catalyst switches, and it is about 10 to 15 years old. We're looking into upgrading in a cost-effective way to get the performance and yet still be at par with the quality and expectations that customers have from Cisco. Price-wise, Cisco is really expensive, and customers are expecting something different than Cisco so that they can save on IT costs. They don't have the same budget that they had before when they installed Cisco products. That's why they're looking for a solution that can provide performance and features without too much money or investment. We're looking at some alternative brands, such as NETGEAR and MikroTik, to support our proposal."
  • "The main reason we use this solution is for the price — it's very cheap."
  • "Pricing is not an issue."
  • "The pricing is very reasonable and is one of the main selling points for MikroTik devices."
  • "When you buy a license, it is for life and you don't need to buy another one every year."
