Automation has streamlined onboarding and governance and delivers faster, more secure access
Overall, we are very satisfied with Active Roles by One Identity, but there are a few areas that could be improved. The user interface could be more modern and intuitive, especially for new administrators. Some advanced configuration and policy settings have a steep learning curve and could be simplified. We would also like to see more built-in integrations with cloud platforms and SaaS applications, along with additional out-of-the-box reporting templates. These improvements would make the product even easier and more flexible for organizations managing hybrid environments. One thing that would make our daily work even smoother is having more ready-to-use templates for common administrative tasks and reports. This would reduce the need for customization and help teams get up and running more quickly. Additionally, faster and simpler synchronization for hybrid and cloud environments would be beneficial, especially for organizations managing both on-premises and cloud identities. More detailed documentation and guided setup for advanced features would help new administrators learn the platform faster and more easily. One additional improvement I would like to see for Active Roles by One Identity is a better built-in dashboard with more real-time insights into identity and access activities. It would be helpful if upgrades and migrations were simpler and required less planning. Finally, expanding native integrations with more cloud services and third-party applications would make the platform even more versatile and reliable. These enhancements would improve the overall user experience while keeping the product's strong security and automation capabilities.

The connectors are valuable, however it doesn't check that the access granted was previously requested.
All the connectors to different target systems. It has allowed us to have a central system for handling security profiles for all users on different target systems e.g.  Oracle, Unix, and Active Directory. This product launches a request to add or remove accesses on…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"One Identity Active Roles brings a positive impact to organizations in that they will start realizing the ROI in a much faster manner because the implementation time is very short and it is easy to use."
"The biggest thing for us is Active Roles saves a lot of man-hours in keeping groups up-to-date manually or trying to write some sort of script that you have to run, so we don't have to reinvent the wheel. Instead of when every time somebody joins a department, then somebody has to remember to put in a request to add "meet user Joe" to this group, the solution does it automatically for us. Therefore, it saves our business and IT staff time because they do not have to process requests since Active Role can do it for them."
"After moving to One Identity Active Roles, I achieve better automation, improved security through controlled delegation, and enhanced compliance with detailed auditing and reporting, significantly improving efficiency and reducing operational risk compared to the previous approach."
"It is very intuitive and close to the native tools. Since it is web-based, it does not require extensive training for our end users."
"One Identity Active Roles has reduced a significant amount of manual AD admin work, improved security through tighter access control, and made onboarding and offboarding much faster and more consistent across teams."
"It gives us attribute-level control and the AD management features work very well."
"We have two staff members and so per staff member, Active Roles saves us 0.2 FTE."
"Previously, I was handling a 100 percent workload, but after using One Identity Active Roles, 70 percent of my load has been resolved."
"It has allowed us to have a central system for handling security profiles for all users on different target systems e.g. Oracle, Unix, and Active Directory."

"One Identity Active Roles is a strong product, but like any enterprise tool, there are areas where it could be improved."
"One Identity Active Roles could be improved with a more modern and intuitive user interface, faster performance during large-scale directory operations, and simpler initial deployment and configuration."
"We're pulling the identity components out because ARS is not an identity platform. It's not meant to be one. It's not robust enough to handle it all."
"One Identity Active Roles can be improved by modernizing the UI to be more responsive, as some advanced workflow configurations can feel a bit clunky during setup."
"In terms of improvement, it could be made even more user-friendly for administrators when they need to create new workflows and rule sets."
"One area where One Identity Active Roles could be improved is troubleshooting and visibility."
"For the AAD management feature, it needs to improve the objects that we can manage and the security."
"This product launches a request to add or remove accesses on different target systems but it doesn't check that the access granted was previously requested."
