What is our primary use case?
My main use case for
CentOS 10 (CentOS 10) with support by ProComputers is primarily for staging and UAT environments. We have since moved our production environment to
CentOS as well because it supports
RHEL, which allows us to perform our deployments efficiently.
A specific example of how I use CentOS 10 (CentOS 10) with support by ProComputers in my staging and production environment is that on my last project, I deployed one of our healthcare applications using CentOS 10. Since it is hardened and requires minimal security configuration, and we can deploy it with minimal configurations necessary for healthcare platforms to achieve HIPAA configurations and compliance certificates, there are many advantages to using this solution.
CentOS 10 (CentOS 10) with support by ProComputers has everything we need. We typically get it on the marketplace, though obtaining it for free would be very helpful, depending on your business case.
How has it helped my organization?
CentOS 10 (CentOS 10) with support by ProComputers has positively impacted my organization as we were able to deploy and raise our environment and product much faster. I estimate we achieved 5 to 20 percent faster deployment compared to previously. We were able to complete implementations very quickly because the OS is pre-configured and requires minimal provisioning work. Additionally, default security measures are already in place, which has resulted in seamless integrations with the client's side and fewer security threats overall.
I can share specific numbers regarding CentOS 10 (CentOS 10) with support by ProComputers. We have achieved at least 30 percent cost savings annually. The metrics show that processes for configuring high availability clusters are much easier to manage, and we are satisfied with the performance of these services.
What is most valuable?
The best features CentOS 10 (CentOS 10) with support by ProComputers offers include security optimization with pre-configured optimizations that are feature-proof and easy to provision. Out-of-the-box hardening is available, and technical support is strong. Additionally, we can use binary packages from
RHEL 10, which significantly improves performance.
What needs improvement?
Regarding how CentOS 10 (CentOS 10) with support by ProComputers can be improved, I do not see many areas for improvement. However, additional cloud costs are sometimes a concern. Most tasks require manual installation, and if that could be improved, it would be beneficial. Since the rolling stream nature means it functions as a preview platform continuously, having a static build would allow for more packages and better integration.
Regarding needed improvements for CentOS 10 (CentOS 10) with support by ProComputers, documentation is satisfactory but could be improved regarding implementation approaches. Having a proper community experience would also be very helpful.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using CentOS 10 (CentOS 10) with support by ProComputers for almost a year or more, having started last year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
In my experience, CentOS 10 (CentOS 10) with support by ProComputers is very stable, though there are areas where it could be improved.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
CentOS 10 (CentOS 10) with support by ProComputers' scalability is supported well in our OS. We also configured our database with
PostgreSQL on CentOS, and it is working fine without any issues. We are satisfied with this setup.
How are customer service and support?
Regarding technical support, we have not received much support overall. The last time we contacted support was regarding an image issue for a particular service. The support team was able to identify that the issue was related to the .NET service, provided us with the necessary packages and answers, and we were able to fix it.
The customer support for CentOS 10 (CentOS 10) with support by ProComputers is fair. We receive what we need, and most of the time we handle issues independently. If we are unable to resolve an issue, we reach out to customer support, which has been adequate.
I would rate the customer support for CentOS 10 (CentOS 10) with support by ProComputers on a scale of one to ten as five to six, since I have not interacted extensively with customer support.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I previously used
Ubuntu OS before transitioning to CentOS 10 (CentOS 10) with support by ProComputers.
What was our ROI?
I have seen a return on investment with CentOS 10 (CentOS 10) with support by ProComputers. We have achieved at least 20 percent in annual savings due to lower spending compared to our previous solution. Time-wise, we have freed up almost 40 percent of our time spent on day-to-day activities such as configuring operating systems and performing implementations.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
My experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing for CentOS 10 (CentOS 10) with support by ProComputers is that pricing could be reduced for developing countries such as Sri Lanka. The licensing and setup costs are otherwise acceptable. Region-wise pricing would be helpful if it could be implemented.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Before choosing CentOS 10 (CentOS 10) with support by ProComputers, I evaluated other options such as RHEL 7, CentOS 8, Windows, and other different solutions. Comparatively, CentOS pricing is much lower since it is based on the Linux kernel, which allows for flexible configuration. This was the primary factor in our decision.
What other advice do I have?
I rate CentOS 10 (CentOS 10) with support by ProComputers overall as seven to eight on a scale of one to ten. I chose this rating because it has everything we need, and we are satisfied with the performance of the OS. It makes our work easier.
Regarding CentOS 10 (CentOS 10) with support by ProComputers's AI capabilities, I believe its governance and security should be heavily hardened, allowing us to install our own scripts. This would provide strong security and encryption for our data. It should prevent most attacks before they reach the OS.
Regarding CentOS 10 (CentOS 10) with support by ProComputers's AI capabilities, accuracy should be at least 99 percent. Reliability should be such that we can depend on these solutions without needing to consult another provider. If these solutions can be verified as reliable sources, we can depend on them completely.
CentOS 10 (CentOS 10) with support by ProComputers is deployed in my organization primarily through public cloud. Based on client requirements, we also use private cloud, on-premise, or hybrid solutions. We have not yet deployed on private cloud, but public and hybrid cloud are our most typical solutions, with on-premise solutions also available.
The cloud providers I use most often with CentOS 10 (CentOS 10) with support by ProComputers are AWS and Azure. These are the main platforms we use.
My advice for others considering CentOS 10 (CentOS 10) with support by ProComputers is to try it in a non-production environment such as development, staging, or UAT first and observe how it performs. If it aligns with your requirements, you can move forward with confidence. Our experience has been positive with this solution.
