Nutanix Prism Reviews

This is a very good product with major use cases involving Nutanix HCI. Major customers are banking sectors including Jana Small Financials Bank, Bandhan AMC Bank, IDFC Bank, and HDFC Life Insurance. These are all our customers where we have implemented Nutanix HCI, and we have built the cloud-native.

Nutanix Prism is a bundle, similar to an example in HCI. In SimpliVity, it's completely with the HCI, and here Acropolis Operating System is present. It's a kind of OS for Nutanix Prism, AOS which we call, that is part of the best features of Nutanix Prism.

It is an intelligent management interface, Nutanix Prism. It's a single pane of glass that manages the clusters, VMs, storage, and whatever network we have will be in the single dashboard.

One customer required a single dashboard which contains the complete information for Nutanix Prism. They wanted to know the number of VMs, the storage they are using, and their switches, networking, L2 switches, L3, everything is bundled: server, storage, VMs, everything. We can showcase it in the single window.

The Prism real-time alerting and predictive analytics provide live metrics for VMs. It gives alerts every few seconds about system activities, providing complete alerts instantly. It spots performance bottlenecks such as CPU, memory, storage, IOPS, latency, etc. Everything is in the single bundle and gives alerts and real-time alerts. Also, built-in AI engines detect anomalies and send alerts instantly.

Alerts include root cause suggestions regarding Nutanix Prism, not just raw data. Additionally, it allows real-time VM operations to create power on/off, migration, snapshot or clone, and VMs instantly. Live resource reallocation and troubleshooting occurs with zero time.

The machine learning in Nutanix Prism involves data collections in real-time telemetry data. It tracks VM active usage such as CPU, memory, IOPS, latency, and host node performance, storage usage and trends, user behavior and workload. Data is collected every few seconds, creating large data sets over time. Pattern recognition and baseline creations occur as the ML model learns normal behavior of your system by analyzing historical data. For example, if X VMs usually use 50 to 60% of CPU and suddenly jump to 95%, Prism detects it as an anomaly.

Regarding predictions and forecasting features of Nutanix Prism, it handles capacity planning by predicting when you will run out of disk, CPU, or memory, and how many days are left. It predicts workload and understands the seasons or daily workload peaks and prepares suggestions ahead of time.

The major improvement recommended for Nutanix Prism is more multi-cloud cost optimization. It shows performance and usage but is limited in detailed cross-cloud cost analysis. Improvement is needed for deeper FinOps-style ML insights that compare costs between on-premise, AWS, Azure, etc.

Enhancements for the current mobile version of Prism are necessary as its functions are limited. Full mobile native control with real-time alerts and AI suggestions are required for one-click actions.

Better integration with third-party tools and predictive maintenance for hardware is needed; currently, the focus is on VM and storage, not hardware life cycle. Predictions for node-level hardware failures or SSD wear-out, fan sensor alerts in advance are essential improvements, as is AI-based security threat detection focusing on unusual login patterns such as ransomware behavior or privilege escalations.

We are system integrators and have been in the industries working with Nutanix Prism for almost 15 years.

The setup experience is straightforward and not complex at all. Nutanix Prism has good features, and it's cost-effective plus more advanced and user-end friendly.

Deployment of Nutanix Prism doesn't require much time. It basically takes two to four hours for the complete infrastructure installation, including hardware racks. Nutanix OS takes one to two hours, Prism Central setup takes about 30 minutes, and cluster configuration takes one to two hours. Prism Element is immediately available after all settings, and Prism Central setup takes one to two hours too. Within 24 or 48 hours depending on the users, time can vary, particularly if they have less data; some 30 minutes to a few hours. It totally depends on the workload and observation, ensuring no downtime or smooth rollout.

We have not experienced any issues with stability.

Scalability of Nutanix Prism depends on the nodes with automatic resource expansions such as storage, compute, memory. There are no full upgrades required, just a click to go. It operates on a node-by-node basis with no limits or downtime.

They provide good technical support for Nutanix Prism. Global 24/7 technical support is available through phone, email support, and web support. Live engineers respond immediately, and they have several support tiers: Basic, Production, Mission Critical, Ultimate. Basic means standard business hours support, Production means 24/7, Mission Critical means faster SLA with technical account managers connectivity, and Ultimate means full white-glove support with a dedicated team. For customers who are into private cloud or have critical data, they tend to choose Ultimate for immediate support.

Earlier, when they were using only virtualized with VMware, everything was separate, and if they wanted to check out any data or system space, they had to go to different windows. This was very painful and time-consuming for the customers.

Nutanix Prism prevents downtime regarding capacity exertions, performance bottlenecks, and system issues before they happen, allowing customers to take preventive actions such as adding a storage node within 10 days to avoid disruptions. It saves a major amount of time for IT teams, eliminating the need for manual monitoring, and deep troubleshooting is not required when using Prism. Since it includes everything in AI and machine learning, it surfaces issues, recommends exact solutions, often with a single click, and reduces costs too, optimizing resource usage, moving or resizing VMs to reduce over-provisioning, delaying or avoiding unnecessary hardware purchases through smarter capacity planning.

It helps to reduce time approximately by 25 to 30%. Smart capacity planning, one-click optimization, migrating the VMs immediately, deleting unused snapshots so that space can be quickly managed, and we can upgrade the firmware too within that timeframe.

I recommend going with Nutanix Prism Central plus Prism Pro, as it offers unified, AI-powered management across all clusters with real-time analytics and MI insight. You will get the benefit of saving your IT teams hours each week with automatic monitoring, forecasting, and optimization.

We are in the same boat working in that area with HCI solutions. We are system integrators and provide HPE plus HPE SimpliVity and Nutanix HCI solutions, different from the same product. HPC and Nutanix we have as part of our offerings. We mean Nutanix HCI only. We refer to Nutanix Prism for our product. On a scale of 1-10, I rate Nutanix Prism a 9.

I use Nutanix Prism as my HCI product. I work with Nutanix HCI, Hyper-Converged Infrastructure. I use Nutanix Prism, Nutanix Prism Central, and Nutanix Move. As a reseller, we deploy Nutanix platforms to customers rather than using them directly. We have more than three customers who use Nutanix Prism for banking and regional purposes, including the Ministry of Innovation in Ethiopia.

We use some of the automation capabilities in Nutanix Prism, such as NCC and replication, and for snapshots for another cluster. We use automation for alerts, and while we don't follow the whole customer's activity, we can configure alerts and provide customers' IP addresses and email addresses to notify them of errors before problems occur. This allows them to manage the system themselves or call us for support.

We show customers how to monitor performance using the Nutanix Prism home dashboard, which can notify them about performance using Health, NCC, and capacity usage.

Nutanix Prism brings many benefits to customers by providing a single user interface to manage the cluster, control performance, networking, and storage, making it better than previously existing solutions.

Nutanix Prism is very user-friendly and simple to use, allowing easy configuration of multiple networking components. You can manage multiple nodes in a single platform, which makes it superior. Nutanix Prism is completely scalable; you can add nodes and disks without downtime, allowing for easy scaling. The initial setup of Nutanix Prism is straightforward because you can use a single management foundation to form the cluster or set up the initial configuration.

Regarding Nutanix Prism's single pane overview, the limitation is that you cannot troubleshoot all errors from Prism Central; you sometimes need to log into the CLI to change settings such as the IP address of the CVM in the AHV. There are no other areas of Nutanix Prism that I would suggest for improvement, but adding the IP address change feature would make it easier.

I have been working with Nutanix Prism for almost two or three years.

I have not experienced any downtimes, crashes, or performance issues with Nutanix Prism. Downtime is only needed when updating the cluster, but I have not encountered crashes from the Nutanix side.

Nutanix Prism is completely scalable; you can add nodes and disks without using downtime, allowing for easy scaling.

Nutanix's technical support is very good; they are better than other vendors and have supported us well.

I have some experience with vSAN configuration, but I only have limited knowledge about VMware.

The initial setup of Nutanix Prism is easy; I find it user-friendly to configure because you can use a single management foundation to form the cluster or set up the initial configuration.

We, as a reseller, deploy Nutanix platforms to customers.

Nutanix Prism brings many benefits to customers by providing a single user interface to manage the cluster, control performance, networking, and storage, making it better than previously existing solutions.

I hear that Nutanix Prism is more expensive than others, but as a technical person, I don't know the details about the pricing aspect.

The main difference is that vCenter can only manage a single cluster, whereas Nutanix Prism Central allows management of multiple clusters using a single interface.

For organizations considering Nutanix products, I recommend being responsive and understanding customer needs while staying calm when they ask for assistance. I have hands-on experience working with Nutanix Prism and do the implementation part. We deliver Nutanix products directly from the source. I rate Nutanix Prism a nine out of ten.

The solutions I mostly encounter right now are Nutanix Prism.

I am familiar with products such as Nutanix Kubernetes Engine, KE, and Nutanix Prism. I have very good knowledge of everything I can sell in that product line.

Nutanix Prism is used for managing all the infrastructure, server, storage, and performance impact, application performance monitoring, alerting, and network monitoring. It serves as a single solution for monitoring, alerts, and predictive analysis purposes.

I utilize Nutanix Prism's automation capabilities.

Nutanix Prism is a scalable product that can be scaled easily both horizontally and vertically.

As an integrator, the deployment process is very straightforward, requiring just clicking the next button. You can deploy within 15 minutes.

The advantages of Nutanix Prism in comparison with others are that you get everything in a single console. You don't need to manage different consoles for the hypervisor, servers monitoring, storage monitoring, and network monitoring. All monitoring functions are available from a single console and dashboard.

Alerting has helped in minimizing disruptions by providing near-zero downtime.

Analytics help in forecasting infrastructure needs. If you want to budget the IT infrastructure for the next year, based on the recent data patterns of your infrastructure, you get forecasting for the next year's IT budget.

It is very important that Nutanix Prism provides a single-pane overview for organizational infrastructure. The predictive analysis report and proactive monitoring support the single dashboard. Multiple features are available without complexity. In Nutanix Prism, we can easily handle multiple products in a single dashboard. The configuration is very easy with one-click availability. You can even manage Nutanix Prism through a mobile app without logging into your system.

They have helped streamline IT operations by allowing management and scripting of day-to-day task activities via automation. You can integrate Ansible tool or any third-party tool for automation. They have their own automation tool where you can manage RBAC control. When someone wants to deploy a virtual machine, they can raise a request, then the HOD will confirm and approve, after which the machine automatically spins up on the Prism Center.

I assess Nutanix Prism's performance monitoring for identifying and resolving issues as very effective. By default, multiple checksums are already there. If there's any issue, the self-healing process is included in Nutanix Prism. They can identify and resolve issues within seconds without manual intervention.

I have not noticed any downsides or drawbacks in Nutanix Prism. However, if you want to manage multiple clusters, you need Prism Center. The Prism Element and Prism Center versions are available. Prism Element can handle a single dashboard and single site, while Prism Center is needed to manage different sites or different clusters.

I have been working with Nutanix Prism for around six to seven years, starting my Nutanix journey in 2019.

It is a stable solution.

Nutanix Prism is a scalable product that can be scaled easily both horizontally and vertically.

I would rate the customer support of Nutanix as ten out of ten. If there is any hardware issue with HP or Dell, customers don't need to raise tickets with the hardware OEM. They can raise tickets on the Nutanix portal itself. Nutanix handles both hardware and other issues. The customer gets a single dashboard, single calling point, and single ticketing tool for everything through Nutanix itself.

I chose Nutanix over HPE because in today's digital trend, everyone wants to adopt the AI journey. Nutanix has around 18 plus products where the Kubernetes platform, containerization platform, and AI platform are available. Additionally, they are ready to work with HP, Dell, or Lenovo, without any OEM locking. Any OEM can be integrated into that software.

In terms of pricing, there is a financial benefit from using it. The TCO calculator shows that customers get around 60% more cost savings. Rather than putting the workload on the cloud or implementing three-tier architecture, you will get 60% ROI with Nutanix Prism on-premises.

I am working in a System Integrator company. Earlier, we sold HP products. I have not worked with HPE Primera, as HP has now come up with the Alletra model. The overall rating for Nutanix Prism is 10 out of 10.

Our primary use case is for our virtual machines, specifically for our production. We are running about twenty to thirty production VMs, which are critical.

Nutanix Prism is mainly used for our daily operations, similar to VMware. Despite the lack of extraordinary features, it efficiently manages our daily operations now that we are managing our VMs. 

One of the most useful features is the disaster recovery setup, which includes two clusters, one for our production server and another for our recovery site.

The lifecycle management and upgrade procedure should be automated. With a single click, all critical upgrades should be completed. 

Additionally, the presales and marketing team should inform clients about resource requirements, such as RAM used by CVM, to help manage expectations.

I have been working with Nutanix Prism for more than four years.

The entire Nutanix solution is stable. We haven't faced any major difficulties or end-user complaints related to Nutanix.

We have not faced any challenges with scalability. When scaling, we simply upgrade our cluster with the assistance of our local partner.

Nutanix support is excellent, and their response time is extremely fast. I rate their customer service at ten out of ten.

We previously used VMware but switched to Nutanix mainly because Nutanix offered a composite solution for disaster recovery with RPO zero, while VMware did not.

The initial setup was managed by our partner, so we did not personally handle it.

The implementation was completed by our local partner who also supports us with upgrades and scalability.

The return on investment is positive. Initially, the CapEx was higher than VMware's, but considering the operational cost over time, it has been beneficial.

At first, the cost seemed heavy, but over time, its cost-effectiveness became evident.

We evaluated VMware before deciding to switch to Nutanix.

I rate Nutanix Prism nine out of ten. 

It’s important for future customers to know the resource usage by CVM should be clearly communicated in the presales stage.

I have not faced any issues since I started using the tool. I like the solution. It has many features. We are okay with the tool’s performance. Everything is available within one console. We can see how many clusters we have. We need not move from one place to another. We can control all the hardware and software from the same screen.

We faced an issue with Nutanix that we did not face with SimpliVity. We are using Veeam Backup. When we take backups, we can see an additional tape in Veeam. It reflects on Nutanix, too. The snapshot consumes 5.6 TB. I have opened a ticket for this issue to understand why the snapshot takes 5.6 TB.

It was not so when we took backups from Veeam to SimpliVity. Generally, the snapshot is taken during backups, but once the backup is complete, the snapshots are released. If we take backups for around 30 VMs, the snapshot takes around 5.6 TB. I do not want 5.6 TB to be used for the snapshot.

Nutanix Prism does not have a built-in backup tool. Other solutions like HPE SimpliVity and Sangfor have built-in backup features. We have to use a third-party solution like Veeam to perform backups in Nutanix. The vendor must add a built-in backup tool in Nutanix. It must work on the tape level. We shouldn’t have to use a third-party tool for our needs. Main features like backup, CPU, and storage must be available within the product we buy.

I have been using Nutanix Prism for the last one month.

I rate the stability of the product seven out of ten.

My colleague and I are administrators. We are the only two users of the solution in our organization.

The technical support is okay. We opened a ticket with the support team when we faced some challenges. They helped us and fixed the issue quickly.

We used Dell hardware with VMWare before. We have migrated around 60 servers to Nutanix. We have a 3-node cluster and a 4-node cluster. We are in the initial phase. I have also used SimpliVity before. Nutanix has many more functions than SimpliVity. Nutanix has SCSI. We can utilize the Nutanix storage in another physical server. Such capabilities are not available in SimpliVity.

We switched from SimpliVity to Nutanix because we had some storage issues in SimpliVity. We were using the VM of an IBM server. The server was for SIEM. It collected all the data center logs. The machine reached its maximum storage capacity and went down. The SimpliVity team couldn't do anything about it. SimpliVity asked us to buy more storage. So, we bought Nutanix.

We took the storage from Nutanix, connected it to SimpliVity, and upped the VM. The machine was down for two months, and Nutanix helped us switch it on. We work in the healthcare industry. We need the VMs to get data. It stores the data center logs. We were able to restore the machine with the help of Nutanix. SimpliVity is cheaper than Nutanix.

I do not recommend SimpliVity to others. We faced many issues with it. It has many features, but they are not that important. SimpliVity has different levels of storage. We were not aware of them when we purchased the product. Later, the vendor quoted a high price when we wanted to buy storage. That is why we moved from SimpliVity to Nutanix. We had around 150 VMs on SimpliVity. The VM freezes when there is a storage issue, which is not good for customers in the healthcare industry.

The deployment was very easy. It did not take more than four to five hours. We prepared the clusters. Later, we created virtual switches and stored the data for internal use.

A third-party organization deployed the solution for us. They provided us with support. We faced a few issues after deployment. They helped us fix our issues. We couldn't log in to the admin portal after changing the password. We opened a ticket for an emergency setup. The technical guys connected with us within an hour and fixed the login issue.

The pricing is okay. Sangfor is cheaper than Nutanix. We do not know what the renewal percentage will be after three years.

We are currently doing the migration process and creating the data store. We have not used the tool's automation capabilities. We might be able to use the automation capabilities with the help of a Nutanix expert since we are new to the product.

We do not use AI integrations. We are evaluating Sangfor for other projects. I will recommend the tool to my colleagues and friends. It has good market value.

Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.

We use it to manage our clusters. We have it across eight Nutanix clusters, to manage and carry out the day-to-day activities. We use Prism Element as well as Prism Central. 

All our applications are run on-prem. In terms of databases, they include SQL database, MySQL database, and some MongoDB. We also have SAP and Java virtual machines. All of these are used on top of our Nutanix cluster.

Nutanix has improved our efficiency. Before, we had a legacy infrastructure, but using Prism on Nutanix clusters has decreased the footprint. Before, to get a given amount of resources, we needed to provision two or three racks. Now, those resources can be achieved through eight or 10 nodes, which do not even utilize a whole rack. 

Another improvement is the dependencies. Earlier, we had several devices including many for servers and storage. We needed a lot of manpower for each of these components: the physical servers, virtualization, networking, and storage. But with Nutanix HCI, everything is in the same box. A single administrator or two can manage all these things and that has decreased the dependencies. I estimate it has improved our efficiency by about 60 percent.

It has also helped with our data protection efficiency, increasing that by about 40 percent. Everything can be automated. When doing manual reporting and intervention, the risk increases. Now, we have decreased the amount of administration and that helps increase security.

Another major benefit is the cost. The cost of HCI versus a three-tier legacy infrastructure is much less. That is true not only for the OpEx but for the CapEx. It is reducing the footprint and the carbon emissions are also coming down. And management overhead costs have been reduced by about 55 percent.

The feature that stands out for me is the simplicity and ease of use. That is what comes to mind when I think about the Prism console. You don't need to be a core technical person to manage a cluster. Everything is available in the console itself. Anyone with basic knowledge can work on a Nutanix Prism cluster. The beauty of this product is its simplicity and ease of use.

The single-pane-of-glass user experience means you can manage multiple clusters, not only a single cluster, in your data center. You can do pretty much everything from the same console. Prism management and the day-to-day activities can be done through the single console.

We use the Prism Flow module, which has the microsegmentation functionality for Nutanix clusters. That module can be accessed from Prism Central, the single pane of glass. We can build the microsegmentation and manage and visualize all the traffic.

Nutanix is a great product, but I won't say it is a data center product. If it could leverage or work with non-Nutanix infrastructure, it would be a total data center solution. Right now, with Prism Central, we can only manage Nutanix clusters. If we were able to manage the whole data center from the single pane of glass, it would be more helpful. I think that would help all customers.

Also, Nutanix Flow for microsegmentation is limited right now to AHV clusters, meaning only Nutanix clusters. If it could integrate with all my infrastructure, I would have a pane of glass where I could manage my whole data center, including microsegmentation.

They really need to extend its features beyond the Nutanix infrastructure. That is the one thing I would really like to see improvement on.

I have been using Nutanix Prism for about five years.

At the end of the day, it is a software solution, so there are bugs and that's why upgrades are released. You can't say any software product is bug-free. But the issue is how fast they identify and resolve the bugs. In that area, Nutanix is a solid nine out of 10.

It's absolutely scalable. You can scale out and scale up, both options are available. There is no application downtime. You can scale while the cluster is running.

We have Nutanix in two locations. One is our primary data center, one is our secondary data center. We have multiple clusters, where one cluster is built to run Windows VMs and another cluster is built to run Linux VMs.

Their quality and knowledge are great. It doesn't matter how complex the issue is. Within two or three hours, they have been able to resolve most of the problems, except when engineering participation has been required.

Positive

Prior to using Nutanix or Prism, we were using Hyper-V and VMware. Performance-wise and management-wise, Nutanix is number one. It's on top.

New deployments are done by me only. In a single day, I can build a 15- or 20-node cluster. Because I have worked on these things, for me it is very simple. But it might be complex for someone who is new to the field. It depends on your experience and skill set.

The only dependency when provisioning a cluster is network availability. I depend on my network team. But for cluster deployment, a single person is more than enough.

The deployment time depends on which option you choose. One option is to take the core, the hardware separately and the software separately. That means I have to have the AHV and hypervisor. But there is another option which is a Nutanix appliance. They come with the AHV pre-installed. With the Nutanix appliance, it will take three to four hours, maximum, to deploy a cluster. But with the core it will take longer.

In terms of a learning curve, the simplicity is a major plus of this product. Anyone with some basic knowledge can manage a Nutanix cluster straightaway. If you ask that person to get into the fundamental level of deployment, the learning curve will require more time. But for management of day-to-day activities, it is very simple.

Because the solution is software-based, it requires some maintenance. We need to do upgrades to the AHV. But because it is in clusters, no downtime is required. The upgrades happen one node at a time.

Our ROI is around 20 percent.

Nutanix Prism is not inexpensive but not very expensive, given the features we get. It's cost-effective.

I would definitely recommend Nutanix over other products. I have used it for five years and have not found any better product in the market. I have worked with Hyper-V, VMware, and Citrix, but Nutanix is the best solution in terms of performance, management, and scalability.

We use Prism as a single-pane-of-glass console for all our alerts. My company started with one Nutanix cluster, but as we added more, we needed a central place to manage all of them. It's running in a hybrid environment, but we have some non-mechanical workloads that are completely on-prem.

The primary users are members of the infrastructure team, but our application folks have workloads running on that platform. They reach out to us with any troubleshooting or performance-related portions issues. We don't use Nutanix for automation. We have different tools for automating VM deployment and other tasks.

Having a centralized platform with information about our infrastructure has helped us with capacity planning. It's easier to estimate what we'll need in the next six months. We have a better understanding of what's happening in the environment. For example, we can see that we were at 40 percent capacity last month, and suddenly, we're at 60 percent. We can find the root cause. Maybe one VM had an increase in data usage, so we can narrow it down and address the issue.

Before implementing Prism, we had an issue with too many alerts for similar issues, so it was difficult to maintain them. The alerts kept coming, and we had a hard time keeping track of everything. We had multiple alerts about CPU, RAM, and storage. Prism helps us identify and eliminate false alerts because most of them were redundant. 

The help desk is more efficient because we aren't being bombarded with tickets generated by duplicate alerts or false positives. We've reduced false alerts by 35 to 45 percent. It takes additional time to investigate each alert to determine if it's real. Our staff can spend time on other project tasks.  

Also, you don't need to spend much time on deployment. Previously, it took weeks to deploy new environments or VMs, but now it can be completed in hours or days, reducing the number of staff needed to complete those activities. Our management overhead has been reduced because we're more efficient, and we don't need to invest time in upgrading or managing multiple servers. We can do that in a single console.

Our application owners and developers are happy with the performance, efficiency, and reliability. The crucial advantage is that we don't need long maintenance windows during upgrades because we can do it with one click on one system at a time. There's no need to shut down all the VMs because you can do them one by one, so it's seamless. There's no disruption to the business. That has made our internal customers happy. 

Implementing Nutanix hasn't affected our security posture much because we were already using multi-factor single sign-on. Prism has those features, too, so we're continuing to use them. 

The most valuable feature is the dashboard, which gives you a single place to view all the Nutanix clusters. From that dashboard, you can see and modify things on each cluster or do one-click upgrades. You can monitor the cluster's patching cycle and capacity.

It's a seamless single-pane-of-glass view, and it's straightforward to use even if a person doesn't have much Nutanix experience. It's an easy process for anyone to gather information or perform infrastructure activities. Their analytics platform is helpful, providing insight into usage, resources, patching, etc.  

Nutanix's no-code process is helpful because you can integrate most things without writing any code. Prism's centralized platform brings simplicity and transparency to your environment. It gives you visibility into your networks for capacity monitoring, and you don't want to miss any of those alerts. You can drill down into any of those activities or items you will use and view them directly from the Prism. We don't have to log into each cluster separately. 

I would like more insights about virtual machines. It would be helpful to have more detailed information about resource allocation and usage, so we can distribute resources and reassign them more efficiently. 

There was a previous issue with multi-sites in which elements are in different regions, but I think this issue has been resolved in the latest release. We have multiple sites throughout North America and some in Europe. It was difficult to manage those sites. Now Prism is multi-region, so you can manage all the assets in different regions from a single console.

We have used Prism for around two years.

Prism is stable. 

Prism is fully scalable. You can add storage when you feel that you need it for your workload. 

I rate Nutanix support a 10 out of 10. They were attentive during the implementation. When we were migrating the workload from our other platform, we needed help developing a standard security template for deployment. We could do these little things with help from the support staff. They set up screen-sharing sessions or provided links to documentation we could not find. 

Positive

We previously had a three-tier architecture using Dell EMC storage and N-Series networking, but that environment reached the end of its support life, so we were looking for a solution that is more transparent for that workload. 

Deploying Prism is a straightforward process, and we had help from the Nutanix team. Nutanix had everything configured in advance, so the process was smooth on our end. We contacted support if we needed help setting something up. We did a POC first, so the final deployment was much easier. It took a few months. After deployment, the solution requires some regular patching and updating.

Previously, we had to spend significant time upgrading those servers twice a month, but we can do that in a few hours with Prism. It has cut the time by half at least, so we see a return on investment from that time savings. Many project activities that formerly took months to complete can be finished in a few hours or days. 

Nutanix Prism is affordable. It depends on the license category you select. They have multiple options, and we selected the one that was suitable for our infrastructure and requirements. The licensing model worked for us.

We evaluated another hybrid environment. Our management team got quotes from various vendors. Ultimately, we narrowed the list down to solutions that would be best for these specific workloads and wouldn't require as much investment. We did a proof of concept, and once we identified a solution that would work, we ordered and installed the platform for our infrastructure.

I rate Nutanix Prism a 10 out of 10. Potential customers should do a POC before making up their minds. You can also check case studies for use cases with similar workloads. A test drive is helpful because you can get an idea of what the platform will look like. 

We mostly use Nutanix Prism for monitoring and management. It serves as a unified dashboard for all our Nutanix hyper-converged infrastructure, providing a single point of access and control.

All of our workloads are hosted on our private cloud, and we have set up one cluster for the proof of concept in Azure's public cloud.

The single pane of glass user experience has been really good. The dashboard, as it comes out of the box, has proven to be sufficient for our needs, and we haven't felt the need to make significant modifications or add extra widgets. The core of what we want to monitor and receive alerts on is already available in the default dashboard in Prism. Therefore, we use the dashboard as-is daily, and it provides all the statistics we are interested in and concerned about, right from the start.

Everything has been quite intuitive. It has been four years now, and originally, we struggled a bit to understand some of the more advanced networking concepts. However, apart from that, everything has been pretty user-friendly. Even when coming on board without any prior knowledge of the product, it was quite easy to pick up. In fact, it was far easier to grasp than competitors' products that I've worked with in the past, especially when it comes to the intuitive use of the interface.

The network visibility has been really good.

The two biggest improvements or benefits for us are related to our team and the infrastructure. The first significant improvement is the ease of deployment, which allows us to swiftly implement new clusters or projects once we have the necessary hardware. In the past, this process used to take days, weeks, or even longer, but now it only takes hours or days. The second advantage is the increased efficiency and accuracy in deploying. This has been a tremendous benefit for us, as it allows us to deploy more effectively and with greater precision. Furthermore, the ongoing and substantial benefit of Life Cycle Management. LCM has saved us countless man-hours and provided us with the capability to perform software updates even in a production environment, without the need for scheduled downtime during regular working hours or weekends.

Nutanix Prism has significantly enhanced the efficiency of IT management within our organization. It has reduced the man-hours required for patching updates by approximately 75 percent, in my estimation. Undoubtedly, this has been our most significant return on investment. Additionally, we have not experienced any adverse effects on end users or production processes since the implementation of these clusters, which occurred nearly a year before I joined the team, making it almost five years since their deployment. This level of performance is truly impressive.

Nutanix Prism has significantly improved the efficiency of our data protection teams. Although we aren't utilizing Nutanix for backup purposes, we continue to rely on Veeam and Spectrum Protect for our backup needs. However, we do make use of protection domains for specific environments, enabling us to achieve almost immediate recovery to a different cluster site.

Prism provides us with insights and the ability to access all the sub-components of Nutanix's hyperconverged platform. The most beneficial feature for us has been the technical management portion of Prism. It allows us to perform both software and firmware updates for the hardware and software components of the hyperconverged platform without any perceived interruption to the service.

The licensing cost has room for improvement.

I have been using Nutanix Prism for four years.

We encountered some issues during a firmware update where a host became unavailable. However, to the best of my knowledge, including the four years I've been working with the product and the five years the company has been using it, we've never experienced a perceivable outage to our end users or any processes related to Nutanix Prism. We did have instances where a host or a cluster went down, but it didn't affect any of the workloads on those clusters.

Scalability with Nutanix Prism has been very good. We've expanded three clusters that were in production as we placed more workloads on them, or the end-user load just got increased, and we needed to meet the demand. Expanding a cluster is pretty straightforward. We've done all of them internally, and they were successful. We've performed some expansions during normal production hours, and some after regular production hours. At this point, we're comfortable enough to do it during production hours as there is no foreseeable impact on the workloads on those systems.

I have contacted technical support many times, and it has always been very helpful, especially early on when I was not as familiar with the product. I remember a case where we encountered an issue while upgrading some firmware on a third-party host. This host is a part of our clusters that run the native AHV hypervisor, while we also have clusters running the VMware ESX hypervisor in Nutanix's platform. Although the problem was actually related to the ESX hypervisor, the support engineer insisted on staying with us and walking us through the resolution, even though it was a VMware issue and not a Nutanix Prism issue. That level of assistance was truly above and beyond.

The initial setup is extremely straightforward. We had a vendor consultant assist us with the first three cluster deployments, but afterward, we decided not to spend money on the service and do it ourselves. As a result, we currently have seven clusters. The last four were all set up internally. There have been instances where we were able to set up clusters in a day once we had the necessary hardware on-site.

For our first three clusters, we had an integrator consultant's assistance. However, for the last four, we implemented them independently and internally.

Like everyone else, I would prefer Nutanix Prism's licensing to be more affordable. However, I believe in the principle of "you get what you pay for." Currently, I don't think there's a better alternative available for hyperconverged infrastructure. We might be able to find a lower-priced option, but they are positioned in a higher echelon, and the price, I believe, reflects that. Nevertheless, I consider it a worthwhile investment.

I give Nutanix Prism a nine out of ten.

We fumbled a bit with Nutanix Prism's automation, but we haven't found a practical use for it. We already have several third-party tools in place that effectively manage our large-scale deployments. Additionally, we have numerous custom scripts already set up, enabling us to build hundreds of systems. Consequently, we haven't felt the need or desire to reinvent the wheel within Nutanix Prism since our current setup works well for us.

Currently, we are not using Flow as we have not implemented it yet. We are in the process of replacing our underlying physical network switches with multiple vendors. We are waiting to have one specific product across the entire network before we proceed with implementing Flow within Nutanix.

On our roadmap for this current quarter are containers. Looking ahead, AI will be on our roadmap for the next year. Potentially, we'll be working on some AI-related projects in the last quarter of this year in response to compromised endpoints.

We haven't fully explored granting our app development team or our DBAs access to the environment. Since I joined, we've refreshed about 85 percent of all the infrastructure at this organization. Consequently, there have been numerous changes, leaving little time for in-depth exploration. We haven't made much progress in automation, though we would like to. Unfortunately, time constraints have prevented us from doing so. Once we finish that task, we plan to onboard our DBAs and explore the benefits of what they now refer to as the Nutanix Era after a recent name change. It seems highly advantageous for the DBAs, but unfortunately, we haven't had the time to allocate to such projects yet. Our main focus has been on a complete refresh of the organization's infrastructure.

The onboarding experience between Prism and VMware is different, obviously. With Nutanix, we have the ability to go from days and weeks of implementation time, once we have the hardware on-site, to just hours and days. Sometimes, we can get a cluster up and fully running in a single day. Of course, we still have a test validation period, but at this point, we haven't encountered any issues. We can get a cluster up in a day, and it's ready for production, pending vetting and testing. This never happened with VMware vSphere, but it's important to note that VMware vSphere is not a hyper-converged solution; it operates on a three-tier model. Therefore, it's expected that VMware vSphere would take longer. Nevertheless, Nutanix has significantly reduced the implementation time by a factor of seven to ten.

I was involved in deploying everything in our DR site that had not been implemented by the time I started, and I set it up initially. Our Prism cluster went from a single Prism instance to a clustered Prism environment.

As far as the ability goes, we started implementing the second cluster with help from our vendor. After that, we became champions, saying that we were ready to do it on our own. We believed it was easy enough to handle independently. However, we weren't sure if the administration had already established a statement of work in place. Nonetheless, we went ahead and proceeded with the third implementation, working with the service provider. We managed the last four implementations on our own, relying on our team. Our team currently consists of seven people, with all but two having been involved in previous implementations or expansions. Thus, everyone is quite familiar with the process, making it easy for them to handle day-to-day tasks, such as adding guest VMs or snapshotting. While the overall process has been intuitive, we are still continuously learning. There's a lot more to explore and accomplish, but due to the time spent on refreshing our current environment, we haven't delved into everything yet. Realistically, within a couple of weeks after starting, we had our new employee, who joined about a year and a half ago, up and running. He was already familiar with the technology, particularly VMware, which shares some similarities. Learning the system is comparable to understanding and mastering a new language, figuring out how to put everything together systematically, and using the right terminologies. The interface is user-friendly and intuitive. Our new team member had minimal questions and was able to work efficiently within a week or two.

There are feature updates and security updates that we have to apply. Besides that, once we have set up our dashboard with the widgets we want, adding a new cluster to our environment and integrating it into Prism is straightforward. There's nothing much to change. Just upgrades and security patches, which are pretty simple. We just go into the portal, select the upgrade we want to apply, and let it run.

There is a community edition. I'd say, give it a try. We can grab the community edition. The software doesn't care what hardware we run it on, so we could test it on whatever hardware we have available. And, we see, the proof is in the pudding. People should test it out for themselves.

The product is a great central interface to manage the hardware and software that Nutanix provides. We have a one-stop shop to manage, report, and provide analytics.

The HTML5 interface is very robust. It's easy to access and easy to use. It is powerful. It has a lot of good features.

Prism is made to do multi-cloud and multi-site tasks. Some of the products are not interoperable for multi-cloud or multi-site tasks. Nutanix Flow doesn’t work well between sites.

I have been using the solution since 2010.

The technical support is pretty good. I rate support an eight to nine out of ten.

Positive

The solution demonstrates ROI by decreasing operation expenses for manpower. We require less staff to do the same task.

We run some workloads on the cloud but mostly on local data centers. We could also have a ROBO office installation, like a remote branch office. Nutanix is used for just the management of the cluster. Nutanix is used for databases and generic virtualization workloads. We even have some desktops. I have all the use cases that various customers and various sectors describe.

Using Nutanix Prism has reduced the complexity of the management of the solution. There's not a lot to configure for Prism to work. It's preinstalled out of the box. It’s good. Our operations are simplified. Nutanix Prism’s user interface is very powerful and very simple.

The single-pane-of-glass user experience is very powerful. Prism Central is very powerful and very simple. We can get a lot done. There are versions of Prism for each node and each cluster. We can manage multiple Nutanix clusters with Prism Central. It can control all the different clusters together.

I do not use Nutanix for automation much. However, we can take advantage of the built-in features if we need them. The network visibility and micro-segmentation of Nutanix Prism works, but it's a limited use case with just micro-segmentation. The same tag we use on-premises can't be reused in the cloud. It's limited.

Nutanix Prism can do some predictive analysis, which is helpful. Especially when we're trying to manage capacity, it can determine workload based on past behavior. The statistical analysis helps us to preplan.

It has helped improve the efficiency of our organization’s IT management. It works to improve the efficiency by simplifying the task at hand. It has decreased our effort by 30 to 40%. Nutanix Prism has helped the productivity of our organization’s application developers. We can provision environments for them faster with less effort. It helps DevOps because the team can get the environment it needs to start working on its projects.

Nutanix Prism is a little behind on some things related to security posture. Prism has a built-in life cycle management, so we feel more enabled to tackle the tasks. Nutanix Prism is a good product. However, there’s still room for improvement.

Overall, I rate the tool an eight out of ten.

I use the solution in my company for all the server authorization, storing of files or as a storage, and all the IT purposes.

The most valuable features of the solution are IT Ops, key, and agent operation.

The product's price is an area of concern where improvements are required.
