Monitoring has improved and now quickly identifies misaligned configurations and link issues
I have been using Cisco Nexus Dashboard for three to four years initially, and then got switched to Arista, and now it is coming back again as we just deployed the servers for those who are in the process of setting it up.I do not think Cisco optimizes the experience of a hybrid or distributed enterprise setup because we have Arista in our network too.I do not know how end-to-end visibility from Cisco affects my organization's troubleshooting capabilities. The first time when we got Cisco deployed, for some reason, it was not as scalable as how we wanted because the leaves stopped growing after approximately 150 or something. We needed to be scaled much larger, and that is when we pivoted from Cisco to Arista. However, I think it is coming back as they eliminated that problem.I would rate this review at a nine out of ten.

Has provided centralized management and simplified node configuration across customer environments
Regarding Nutanix Prism's single pane overview, the limitation is that you cannot troubleshoot all errors from Prism Central; you sometimes need to log into the CLI to change settings such as the IP address of the CVM in the AHV. There are no other areas of Nutanix Prism that I would suggest for improvement, but adding the IP address change feature would make it easier.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The feature I appreciate most about Cisco Nexus Dashboard is the ability to control everything in one centralized place."
"What I like the most about Cisco Nexus Dashboard is the easier way to know exactly which device is connected to where."
"The pricing is very good if you compare it to other competitors."
"Everything is available within one console."
"Simplicity, automation, and efficiency are some good areas associated with the tool."
"Nutanix support is excellent, and their response time is extremely fast."
"Its scalability is valuable. It's scalable and fast."
"The solution is very stable and reliable."
"In the six years we have been using Nutanix Prism, we have never had a problem with stability."
"The storage management is one of the best."

Cons

"My experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing for Cisco Nexus Dashboard is that it is expensive."
"The first time when we got Cisco deployed, for some reason, it was not as scalable as how we wanted because the leaves stopped growing after approximately 150 or something."
"There is a need for more migration tools, especially for migrating a solution from non-Nutanix environments to a Nutanix environment, particularly for systems with shared disks."
"The dashboard visibility could be improved."
"Nutanix does not support all of the Linux distributions, so we have to use VMware in some cases."
"The product currently fails to provide a complete view to customers."
"Nutanix Prism needs more flexibility commercially and more flexibility with their licensing. Currently they're very fixed on their licensing model, for example, it's based on terabyte calculation."
"The life cycle management or LCM feature is the most complicated. It takes really long and is unpredictable for our use cases. They should provide more detailed information about the kind of LCM to go for, various errors, and different kinds of tasks. For analytics for certain configurations, we require more details with the report. Sometimes, not all elements are present for support, management, and configuration. For troubleshooting, it would be very easy and useful if we can analyze log files directly from Prism, that is, not from the command line but directly from Prism."
"The VM backup could be better, and its licensing could be better. We have had some licensing issues with Nutanix Files. The default license should be 1 TB or more. Currently, for Nutanix Files sharing, we can only use 500 Gigabytes."
"The automation needs to be improved, as there are several challenges."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"The good thing about Nutanix Prism is that we don't have to pay for a hypervisor, but their licensing cost is a little bit on the high side."
"Nutanix Prism's cost is reasonable."
"A lot of my customers complain about the price of renewals, so I think that this can be improved."
"This product is cheaper than using VMware."
"We have spent a lot of money on the Nutanix solution with Prism. Yet, for this amount of money we could be buying high-end storage with a lot of IOPS and bandwidth, even more than with Nutanix."
"Nutanix Prism is priced better than some of the competing solutions."
"The pricing was decent, average. It wasn't a Black Friday sale, but it was good."
"As far as pricing goes, it's competitive for what you get. There are probably less expensive hyper-converged solutions, but I don't think they're as mature or have the feature set that we get with Nutanix."
