What is our primary use case?
My main use case for EDB Postgres Advanced Server is that we have a telecommunication billing product where I am using it as a backend database to handle all the requests.
A specific example of how we use EDB Postgres Advanced Server in our billing product is that customers recharge their phone numbers for data packs and SMS packs, and we use it as a backend solution mostly related to the billing part.
Regarding my main use case for EDB Postgres Advanced Server, we use the HA part to handle all the transactional related things.
What is most valuable?
The best features EDB Postgres Advanced Server offers, in my experience, is providing us with the cluster features to fail over and fail back the nodes easily in production without any downtime, which helps to run our production very smoothly compared to the challenges we face with community versions.
Failover and clustering have made a big difference for my team during production incidents or maintenance; for example, with EDB's EFM cluster, smoothly failing over from one node to another for maintenance is a prime feature of EDB Postgres Advanced Server that allows us to do this efficiently.
In terms of features, I think EDB Postgres Advanced Server performs better than the community version, with helpful support in case any issues occur, and the other products EDB provides are also very useful.
EDB Postgres Advanced Server has positively impacted my organization by being cost-saving compared to databases such as Oracle, while providing smooth performance that simplifies production operations with less downtime and effort, especially in a cloud environment where we can utilize containerized services.
What needs improvement?
For improvement purposes, I think EDB Postgres Advanced Server needs some enhanced monitoring since the current default monitoring is not sufficient; an EDB monitoring tool could provide useful metrics to help end users avoid production issues.
Additionally, there is a lack in documentation, which tends to be scattered, making it difficult for end users to find clear guidance during setup, especially with new containerized features.
Regarding EDB Postgres Advanced Server's AI capabilities, I see a lag in its initiatives on the AI front, and I have not explored much of its security features related to AI.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using EDB Postgres Advanced Server for the last five years in both production and non-production environments, and I do explore multiple products from EDB.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
EDB Postgres Advanced Server has been stable in my experience, and we have not faced major issues in production setup or clustering; EDB support has been helpful whenever required.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
EDB Postgres Advanced Server is scalable, allowing us to easily scale up or down as our needs change.
How are customer service and support?
I rate customer support for EDB Postgres Advanced Server five out of five because it is really good, and we can access it quickly.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Before using EDB Postgres Advanced Server, we were using Oracle, but we switched due to its high costs and infrastructure setup.
How was the initial setup?
For setting up the EDB cluster, it is really good, time-efficient, and efficient. I really recommend setting up EDB in the production environment.
What was our ROI?
We have seen a return on investment with significant money and time saved; for instance, setting up a database for one client saved us a lot of dollars and allowed us to deploy quickly with containerization.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
My experience with pricing, setup costs, and licensing for EDB Postgres Advanced Server is that it is very cost-efficient, easy to set up, and can be deployed in a containerized manner.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We evaluated other options such as MySQL, but we needed enterprise support for production use, which EDB Postgres Advanced Server provided reliably.
What other advice do I have?
My advice for others looking into using EDB Postgres Advanced Server is that setting up the EDB cluster is efficient and time-effective, making it a recommended choice for production environments.
EDB Postgres Advanced Server is deployed in my organization via multiple setups, including an on-premise setup, hybrid setup, and public cloud setup in AWS.
For improvements, I think EDB should initiate a program to create an RDS for EDB Postgres Advanced Server with a bring-your-own-license option to avoid high charges compared to AWS Aurora.
For accuracy and reliability of output, I rate EDB Postgres Advanced Server a seven out of ten, and I am satisfied with the EDB products I am using and plan to deploy in future digital products.
