Veritas Alta SaaS Protection Reviews

For the customers that I'm dealing with, they are using Veritas Alta SaaS Protection for long-term retention and offline backups. This means they don't have to constrain their on-premise resources. They reduce the reliability on their on-premise infrastructure while they offload that workload into the cloud.

One of the features of Veritas Alta SaaS Protection that customers are looking for is immutability. This is the most important feature. With the cloud, Veritas Alta SaaS Protection is actually in the cloud, which means they have unlimited space to do their backups. They can expand on a need-to-need basis.

The automated recovery feature of Veritas Alta SaaS Protection makes the recovery much easier, as opposed to earlier methods where we were using scripts to do the restore. Currently, it's automated so you just do a click. You select the feature in a graphical interface, making it easy to use even for a newbie.

For Veritas Alta SaaS Protection, the only challenge is downtime and the impact of time synchronization whereby different customers are on different time zones, and Veritas Alta SaaS Protection is on a different time zone. There is always a problem with synchronizing that.

They should review the cost aspect of the subscription for Veritas Alta SaaS Protection because customers are going for the cheaper storage, which doesn't give those features in terms of dedup ratios.

I have been using Veritas Alta SaaS Protection for a year now.

For Veritas Alta SaaS Protection, I can share that we have recently done some deployment around that area, and also for Veritas Access for customers that want to do long-term retention.

The setup of Veritas Alta SaaS Protection is very easy and takes less than 20 minutes approximately for deployment.

For the cases that I have had with Veritas Alta SaaS Protection, I was able to get the required support.

For scalability, Veritas Alta SaaS Protection is very easy to scale. It's highly scalable.

The support for Veritas Alta SaaS Protection rates a nine, with one being room for improvement.

The setup of Veritas Alta SaaS Protection is very easy.

The customers have seen value in money and financial benefits with Veritas Alta SaaS Protection.

There is a reduction in CAPEX and they rely more on OPEX. There is that offloading of the burden on the on-premise infrastructure with Veritas Alta SaaS Protection.

Veritas Alta SaaS Protection is slightly expensive, but they can do more on it.

The exact figure for Veritas Alta SaaS Protection depends on the size of data being stored, the region, and the type of storage at the backend.

The solution serves various sectors including Finance, Insurance, NGO, and Government.

Veritas Alta SaaS Protection is good for cloud backups and has many integration features. It works well in a hybrid model.

Some of the tool's best features include an enhanced dashboard and strong security features compared to native Veritas. Our environment is entirely automated. 

The tool can be improved in terms of maintainability and flexibility, especially as companies grow larger. In these aspects, I feel Veeam is better for cloud and operational purposes.

I have been using the product for four to five months. 

For flexibility, Veritas Alta SaaS Protection can be more customized to our requirements, while Veeam is slightly more difficult to customize for clients' specific needs. Security-wise, it has built-in features, but with Veeam, we need to choose from market options and integrate them. The tool might be good for enterprise environments with very demanding customers, but Veeam is better for medium or non-critical environments.

Installation isn't very easy—you need product and domain knowledge. We faced some challenges with integration, especially with ServiceNow, API calls, and custom requirements on AWS EC2. Installation took about two weeks with a team of nine to ten, including project managers. The volume of private or hybrid clouds is quite large, and the environment is big, so setup takes some time as it's a one-time thing. But Veeam is very lightweight and more plug-and-play.

The tool is expensive compared to Veeam. 

I'd rate Veritas Alta SaaS Protection as eight out of ten.

Our company helps customers migrate from their local servers to Sharepoint and handles all the configuration for them. We also help them restore some data. We usually recommend Veritas Backup for customers who are on 365. 

We're comfortable using this kind of technology. It's user-friendly. 

When you finish a project, the client should have the opportunity to browse the files rather than simply ending the contract. Also, it's not possible to recover earlier versions. It should be possible to have a database for recovering files after you finish a contract. There's no solution for this from Veritas.

The clients pay annually for the product, but when they decide to cancel the contract after five or six years, how do they get older versions of their data? Veritas only offers a snapshot of the last backup.

They also no longer offer the Veritas for Microsoft 365 solution in Brazil. We have to find another solution for 365 at the end of the year, so we are going with N-Able.

Veritas is stable.

Most of our customers have no problems scaling the solution.

I rate Veritas support eight out of 10. They have a local team here in Brazil, but they usually escalate to the senior teams outside the country.

We also use Veeam Backup for our customers who use VMware. Some of our clients use VMware on-premises.

Setting up Veritas is very straightforward. We have a small team of technicians, including two senior engineers and three or four juniors. 

The price could be lower. Price is a big issue because we use American dollars in Brazil, so we feel a lot of pressure from the currency. A lot of customers ask us to find a cheaper alternative to Veritas, and the contract renewal process isn't that easy.

I rate Veritas SaaS eight out of 10. With an improved interface and a lower price, I could rate it 10 out of 10. Before implementing Veritas, I would encourage people to understand the rules of the contract and what happens when they decide to end it. 

It's a good solution but you can run into problems when you decide to end the contract. When negotiating a deal, you should also make sure all the storage is included in the price. 

Our customers use Veritas for taking media backups. There is are two on-prem backup appliances.

Veritas is loaded with features because the appliance is ready to integrate with the cloud in cases where the customers have a hybrid or cloud environment.

The go-between is a Veritas partner, so the customer support was not that good. The solution is fine except when there is a purchasing crisis where you have to remake the ecosystem. It causes a lot of issues. The support was a problem, but we're okay with it as long as we have someone to communicate with.

I have been using SaaS Backup for about two years. 

Veritas is stable.

For the current environment, I don't believe there's an issue with the performance scalability. I think it's going to help because they have done the reports. They have done their PCI reports with the appliance. It should be scalable.

Support is outsourced through a third-party vendor. I presume they should be excellent. It's a South African company, but they provide support with resources from West Africa. They respond quickly. 

We use different backup solutions depending on the customer's preference. Some customers like a particular vendor, but Veritas is one of my best backups. I have experience with Veritas and the other backup products that we have integrated into a multi-vendor solution. 

For example, you might integrate hardware from HP and software from another vendor to create a whole solution, but Veritas simplifies this by providing the appliance and software. 

Setting up Veritas is straightforward. The only problem is when you have to restart afresh. We can't even configure their appliance when there are mistakes in-between, so you have to start over again. That's the only problem we have.

If you have all the prerequisites and the login credentials, it will deploy faster because it primarily depends on the appliance's performance. You fill in the required parameters and click "next," then wait for the appliance platform. It takes about four hours. The post-deployment maintenance is done in a GUI, and it's straightforward. 

I believe there are different licenses for different features and performance enhancements on the appliance. So far, we only have licenses for adding clients and also for monitoring and deduplication.

I rate Veritas SaaS Backup eight out of 10. I would recommend it.

I use this solution for data protection.

The most valuable feature is that it's not so intrusive with computer resources.

An area for improvement is the product's performance, especially how long it takes to do a job.

I have been using this solution for around two and a half years.

The initial setup was straightforward, with deployment taking around a week. I'd rate the experience as five out of five.

I would rate this solution's pricing as five out of five.

I would recommend anybody to buy this solution and use it. I'd give it a rating of ten out of ten.

It's very comprehensive. It's one of the first brands to appear in its field. It has minor issues like compatibility and support. The software had a lot of bugs but as time has gone by the bugs were corrected. More features were added and optimized. 

I have a higher education programming background, so I know how that works. I also like other software options. 

Every single possible target has been added over time. People come for other solutions. We have a high-level relationship with the manufacturers so we have access to other features that they required.

Licensing has been a struggle. It went from bronze, silver to gold. Licensing needs more sophistication. It has features that are sold as separate add-ons. 

I have been using it for around five years. 

Technical support has been great. 

They have features that are overpriced and some that are fair. The mid-sized market isn't so great to judge the prices. It probably meets global needs. Overall, the pricing is fair. 

I would rate it a nine out of ten. It excels in performance and delivery but they are quiet on the market. They don't do a lot of marketing. There are plenty of IT people who haven't heard of Veritas so it's harder to sell. 

I would recommend this solution. IT infrastructure reaches a point where it needs backup. There are freeware or cheaper options but those are only good for smaller companies. I would highly recommend it for mid-market to a large market. 

The most valuable features are the ease of administration and the ease of configuration.

Technical support can be improved.

I have worked with Veritas SaaS Backup for ten years.

This is a scalable solution.

This solution is not cheap and not expensive but priced in the mid-range.

My advice to anybody who is considering this solution is to first conduct a PoC to learn about the various features that Veritas offers.

Overall, Veritas is a very good backup product, but nothing is perfect. Optimal software does not exist.

I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.

We take a backup of each workstation and transfer all of them to tape. After that, we create an outside copy.

The most valuable feature is that it is simple to use. You don't have to keep changing parameters between backups.

The recovery process is easy to do.

The user interface is not complicated.

In the future, we would like to see support for virtualized machines.

We have been working with Veritas SaaS Backup for about ten years.

This solution is easy to scale. We have about 100 machines that are being backed up.

I have never spoken with technical support.

Normally the setup is straightforward, but sometimes when you go from environment to environment, it can be a little bit tricky. There are sometimes issues with compatibility.

We have an in-house team that deployed this product and is responsible for maintenance.

Veritas is okay and is a product that I would recommend.

I would rate this solution a seven out of ten.

We handle backup recovery and disaster recovery, using the air replication. We also use it to protect virtual environments - not just the physical servers - in order to protect all of our databases. 

The solution also has appliances, making it an all-in-one solution. It offers general business continuity and disaster recovery for the industry. Basically, it's just utilizing all the functionality, within an appliance.

It's a good solution. It's pretty stable.

The solution is cheaper than competitors, like, for example, Commvault.

There's something about the database recovery that I would like to have improved. The solution doesn't deal with end-to-end recovery, for example, the way Oracle does. There is some involvement with the DBA, that you would need to actually complete the recovery. 

The usability of the solution isn't the best.

Most other similar solutions support a wide range of storage of aides. This solution doesn't really, at least not to the same extent. This should be improved.

I've been using the solution from version 6.0 to the most recent edition.

The solution is pretty stable. I've never seen an environment really fall over. 

I did a project for a London Council where I had to expand the solution. I can't remember the exact details, but it was quite scalable and I was able to increase the actual capacity of the appliances. 

When I worked at Veritas I was technical support, so I know their processes quite well. I don't know if they've changed much since I've been there, however, I've worked with most of the people on the team. 

If I was a customer, and I hadn't had any previous experience or had any dealings with technical support from Veritas, I might not think they are very good, and their help can be a bit drawn out because they have to do a plan of action. 

If you call up because you have an issue, when you're applying for assistance, before they start working on any issue, you have to send over the log files, and the log files get analyzed. Then technical support will call you back. They might do a WebEx, or they might have a solution that you can read, and try to follow to fix the issue for yourself. In most cases, they'll just send you a document and leave it with you to go over and fix the issue by following the documentation.

Those that have been with Veritas for long time, the more senior ones, they don't bother with that. They'll just do a WebEx straight away. Which option you get depends on if you're lucky from a customer's point of view, and who you're dealing with. 

We are partners with Veritas and Commvault, and a number of other software vendors, so we use many solutions, depending on the project or client.

I really don't like Veritas solution. I'm more of a Commvault person. I prefer Commvault to any other backup solutions.

From my point of view, Commvault is not as modular as NetBackup.  

We use Commvault and find that in comparison, it's quite steady. It's mainly built for a Windows environment, but it does limited support on other operating systems. It's a tighter package than this solution. It's easier to understand and to analyze log files. It's easier to understand the process flows, between your mass server, media server and the client for any APIs that are in use. Everything's better, in my opinion, on Commvault.

The solution's initial setup was straightforward. I designed the setup, so I was following that particular design. It wasn't like a random setup, where I just sat in front of it and had a go in a way that was like trial and error. I was following a formula design, that was signed off by the architects and signed off by the directors and whatnot. It was pretty simple.

Myself and my business partner handled the implementation. Both of us came from Veritas, and it was a contract for the council. I started it, and I realized there was quite a lot of load, so I requested my business partner's assistance as well. Both of us implemented the backup and recovery solution, for Suffolk and Brent Council. 

Other people will prefer this solution because they're used to it. However, from my point of view, you have more breaks, more failures on it than you will with Commvault.

This solution was the market leader at one point. I don't know if they still are. I haven't been keeping up to date. There are more solutions on the market now, from what I'm seeing. The environments that are being protected are changing as well. Everything is more geared towards the cloud. 

My advice to anyone who wants to purchase this solution or any other solution is to actually know the environment, what to protect, and what they're trying to achieve. You don't have to get the most expensive thing out there if you just want to do simple things.  

Most of the solutions do the same thing and it won't fall over. They're all pretty stable. 

I'd rate the solution seven out of ten.

We primarily use the solution as a backup for our main boxes and console. It backs up our Linux server recoil machine. 

The solution integrates well with EMC solutions.

The solution does lack a lot of features, and we're considering switching.

The solution needs to offer more scheduling options so that, for example, I could make a schedule for a backup and have it locate and transfer storage on remote servers. It would be nice if we were able to get consoles automatically working.

The solution has a lack of local storage.

I've been using the solution for five years.

The solution is stable; I haven't experienced any bugs or glitches on it.

The solution is easy to expand, but there's a lack of local storage.

I can't speak to the initial implementation as it was already in place when I joined the company.

We use the on-premises deployment model.

At this point, I'd recommend other solutions as backups. I'd rate it six out of ten.
