SAP SQL Anywhere enables companies to develop custom mobile and IoT application and rapidly design and deploy embedded database applications. The RDBMS solutions can provide secure, reliable data management and synchronization for thousands of mobile devices, Internet of Things (IoT) systems, and remote environments. They let business users work uninterrupted, even without a network connection.

SAP SQL Anywhere was previously known as Sybase SQL Anywhere.

Reliable and able to expand but needs to be more secure

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for a school program. 

What is most valuable?

It works well in general. 

The solution can scale.

It is fairly stable. 

What needs improvement?

It is not as good as a SQL Server. I prefer to work with the SQL Server for Microsoft or Oracle. These are better as there are some comments on SQL Anywhere that makes me feel that I'm blocked. We'd like to have them update to a new version. They should update more often.

I find I can't move to a new version without running tests as there are chances of bugs that can get into my system. 

The initial setup is not simple or straightforward, and it took a while to deploy. 

It is not as secure as it could be. This is an aspect they need to improve. There needs to be more encryption. 

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for three or four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable enough. It is reliable. 

However, it is not very secure. We can find passwords very easily. 

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The product can scale. 

We only have three or four users on the solution. In contrast, I have 50 to 150 users on my SQL Anywhere software. We may increase usage. 

How are customer service and support?

I've never spoken to technical support. 

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I also use SQL Server, which is better. We've also used SQL Anywhere. 

How was the initial setup?

The solution is now easy to set up. It's a complex process. It took us about one year to develop it out. 

We have three or four people able to handle deployment or maintenance. 

What about the implementation team?

I did get the advice of a consultant. I'd recommend others to also use a consultant. 

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We bought the license four years ago. 

What other advice do I have?

I'm not sure if I would recommend the solution to others. 

I would rate it, overall, six out of ten. It could be easier to use and more secure.

What is our primary use case?

We use SAP SQL Anywhere because we have a lot of Power BI reports that connect with the SQL database that we have for our robotic process automation data. We create procedures and other elements within the solution.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features of SAP SQL Anywhere are the ease of use and the user interface is intuitive.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using SAP SQL Anywhere within the last 12 months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We have had some stability issues with SAP SQL Anywhere, but I am not sure if it is an application or network issue. We sometimes have a large amount of data being queried and it cannot handle it.

Nine out of ten times the solution is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

SAP SQL Anywhere is scalable. We are doing some SQBI within SAP and it is able to handle it.

What other advice do I have?

This is an intuitive solution that should be utilized. It has its own features and capabilities that stand this out from the other solutions.

I rate SAP SQL Anywhere a seven out of ten.
