We are using EDB Postgres Replication Server for replicating many servers, such as single servers and various standby servers. We had four standby servers and one source server, and a primary server.
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
The most valuable features of EDB Postgres Replication Server are the many in-built functionalities, such as streaming. When compared to others solutions it is highly secure and does not have any breakage in replication. The replication is very fast. Additionally, in other solutions, the databases need to have a lot of manual intervention but with EDB Postgres Replication Server it is not needed.
What needs improvement?
We tried to set up a reverse master-master set up, but currently, it is not available. it can be done only via logical replication using a paid version of BDR or some other technology. They allow like master-master. MySQL has already supported master-master and streaming.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using EDB Postgres Replication Server for approximately three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
EDB Postgres Replication Server is a stable and reliable solution.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability of the EDB Postgres Replication Server is good. We can have multiple replicas. We have tuned up particular parameters and we have not seen too much lag.
We have a team of approximately 14 that use the solution. We do not plan to increase usage.
How are customer service and support?
The support from EDB Postgres Replication Server has been very good.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have used MySQL and PostgresSQL previously. I have found in MySQL the replication can go down because of errors, whereas in EDB Postgres Replication Server it does not fail. In PostgresSQL replicas are not allowed, you are allowed to make any changes. Additionally, syncing is faster when compared to MySQL
How was the initial setup?
I was not part of the EDB Postgres Replication Server implementation tram, but the process was straightforward and took approximately one day.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We have used the paid version of the EDB Postgres Replication Server and the license payments were annual.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend this solution to others.
I rate EDB Postgres Replication Server a ten out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises
