My usual use cases for this solution are when a user deletes something within SharePoint or there is SharePoint corruption, and I can restore the information.
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
The features of Datto SaaS Protection that I have found the most valuable and useful so far include performing a backup every four hours, so I can look at multiple versions of that file and find the most compatible version that I need. There are many choices for the file, making it a nice broad choice.
The automated backup feature helps my data protection strategy by giving me confidence that we will not lose any data if there was ever ransomware or if we had someone who was wanting to do harm with our system; we would be able to restore our data.
The usefulness of advanced search in Datto SaaS Protection is that I can always find the file that I am after, and it is quick to find files.
Datto SaaS Protection's point-in-time restore feature has been effective in recovering data so far; every time I have looked for something, I have been able to find a version for it, and it is soon recovered. It is fast and will recover any size of data.
Datto SaaS Protection's reporting tools have helped maintain data protection transparency in my organization by giving me confidence that our data is there and it is being backed up.
What needs improvement?
Datto SaaS Protection could be improved by addressing the issue that when you look at the cutting time and go to another time, it does not take you back to the same location. If you choose another time period, it just takes you back to the front, to the first folders. It does not actually remember where you were; that is the only pain that it has.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with Datto SaaS Protection for eighteen months, since December 2024.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I think the reliability and stability of Datto SaaS Protection is great; it has always been there. I have not had any downtime and I have not had any issues where I have not been able to get data; it has always had the data that I expect in there.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I would rate the scalability of Datto SaaS Protection as a nine.
How are customer service and support?
I do not believe I have ever communicated with the technical support of Datto SaaS Protection.
I do not think I have used any official documentation, guides, or manuals for this tool; it is all fairly self-explanatory.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Before Datto SaaS Protection, I did use a different solution for the same use cases.
I cannot remember what I used back then; all I know is it was vastly more expensive.
Pricing was the main reason behind my decision to switch.
How was the initial setup?
I did not participate in the initial setup of Datto SaaS Protection; I got a partner, an outsource partner, to do that.
What about the implementation team?
I did not participate in the initial setup of Datto SaaS Protection; I got a partner, an outsource partner, to do that.
What was our ROI?
We have seen a return on investment with this solution so far, as we have been able to recover files that we have then used to support troubleshooting or any problems or cases that we needed to give evidence for, so we financially do not lose out for losing data.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing of Datto SaaS Protection is one of its biggest advantages because it is very competitive; there are lots of solutions that are far more expensive than Datto.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Other than Datto, I evaluated other options.
The options I had included IBM and SkyKick; we chose Datto over them because SkyKick was the previous backup solution that we used and they were more expensive than Datto, and IBM was vastly more expensive.
What other advice do I have?
We use Datto SaaS Protection as our backup solution.
Datto SaaS Protection is the only Datto tool that I work with.
We are a customer and an end-user of this solution.
I usually run backups with Datto SaaS Protection every four hours and validate their success with a yearly restore validation process, but that is hardly ever needed because we are recovering things on a bimonthly basis when someone has deleted something.
I rate this solution an eight.
