Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The data connectors that Microsoft Sentinel provides are easy to integrate when we work with a Microsoft agent.""The main benefit is the ease of integration.""The Log analytics are useful.""It's pretty powerful and its performance is pretty good.""The ability of all these solutions to work together natively is essential. We have an Azure subscription, including Log Analytics. This feature automatically acts as one of the security baselines and detects recommendations because it also integrates with Defender. We can pull the sysadmin logs from Azure. It's all seamless and native.""The solution has features that helped improve the security posture of our clients. It provides the ability to correlate a large variety of log sources very cost-effectively, especially for Microsoft sources.""Mainly, this is a cloud-native product. So, there are zero concerns about managing the whole infrastructure on-premises.""In Azure Sentinel, we have found, they do have a store in their capability. AI and intelligence features. We found that to be very helpful for us because some other things we do need to integrate again or find another vendor for the store"

"The best thing about Kiwi Syslog is that it filters logs into different levels.""The most valuable feature of SolarWinds Kiwi Syslog Server is its performance and management. Additionally, the solution integrates well.""The most valuable feature of this solution is the alerting based on the security logs.""We are very happy with the stability of the solution.""Simplicity is the most valuable feature."

"The features I found valuable with the Sumo Logic Security solution are the search option and the ability to customize the search for the information in the logs.""For many of our services, we use Sumo Logic to track errors and send notifications to our Slack channel, if there are issues. Then, we have our support people monitoring this, and they can react quickly.""The solution is quite stable.""I have no concerns about the stability of the product. I feel it handles the stress we put on it very well.""It provides easy visibility. I also like the shareable queries because we share a lot across groups.""Sumo Logic is an easy solution to use. You can set it up very quickly, and it includes a lot of training videos.""Sumo Logic Security is a good solution for searching the logs and identifying the issues.""Scalability has been good for our needs. We haven't run into any scaling issues in regards to size so far."

Cons
"For certain vendors, some of the data that Microsoft Sentinel captures is redacted due to privacy reasons.""The troubleshooting has room for improvement.""Sentinel should be improved with more connectors. At the moment, it only covers a few vendors. If I remember correctly, only 100 products are supported natively in Sentinel, although you can connect them with syslog. But Microsoft should increase the number of native connectors to get logs into Sentinel.""They need to work with other security vendors. For example, we replaced our email gateway with Symantec, but we couldn't collect these logs with Azure Sentinel. Instead of collecting these logs with Azure Sentinel, we are collecting them on Qradar. We couldn't do it with Sentinel, which is a problem for us.""It has been a challenge with Azure Sentinel to onboard the Syslog server from FortiGate. Azure Sentinel can work better on that shift between the Syslog server and a firewall.""I would like Sentinel to have more out-of-the-box analytics rules. There are already more than 400 rules, but they could add more industry-specific ones. For example, you could have sets of out-of-the-box rules for banking, financial sector, insurance, automotive, etc., so it's easier for people to use it out of the box. Structuring the rules according to industry might help us.""Improvement-wise, I would like to see more integration with third-party solutions or old-school antivirus products that have some kind of logging capability. I wouldn't mind having that exposed within Sentinel. We do have situations where certain companies have bought licensing or have made an investment in a product, and that product will be there for the next two or three years. To be able to view information from those legacy products would be great. We can then better leverage the Sentinel solution and its capabilities.""We'd like also a better ticketing system, which is older."

More Microsoft Sentinel Cons →

"SolarWinds Kiwi Syslog Server could improve by reducing the price.""I would like to have email notifications for emergency logs.""I would like to see a more user-friendly and customizable dashboard.""I would like to see better search functions and better filters in the next release.""Technical support could definitely be better."

More SolarWinds Kiwi Syslog Server Cons →

"The dashboard has room for improvement, because sometimes it is a difficult to create a specific dashboard or query. This would be a nice place to correct problems.""It would be nice to have an improved ability to scroll through logs within a time frame. Right now, we can search for specific errors. However, if we want to look for "before and after" within a specific time frame, it's not easy using the tool. This would be an improvement.""There needs to be improvement on imported data which can be used within Sumo Logic to do more advanced queries.""From the network segmentation side, there is some discrepancy in log onboarding. The tool needs to improve direct API integrations, login integration, native login integration, etc.""We would like to have some type of predefined setup for the logs, making the setup easier by default.""I would like to see improvement in the user experience when configuring things, ingesting logs, and creating ports.""We would like the ability to drill down into a dashboard and get into deeper levels.""The integration with multiple sources could be better."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It comes with a Microsoft subscription which the customer has, so they don't have to invest somewhere else."
  • "It is a consumption-based license model. bands at 100, 200, 400 GB per day etc. Azure Sentinel Pricing | Microsoft Azure"
  • "Good monthly operational cost model for the detection and response outcomes delivered, M365 logs don't count toward the limits which is a good benefit."
  • "I have had mixed feedback. At one point, I heard a client say that it sometimes seems more expensive. Most of the clients are on Office 365 or M365, and they are forced to take Azure SIEM because of the integration."
  • "It is kind of like a sliding scale. There are different tiers of pricing that go from $100 per day up to $3,500 per day. So, it just kind of depends on how much data is being stored. There can be additional costs to the standard license other than the additional data. It just kind of depends on what other services you're spinning up in Azure, or if you're using something like Azure log analytics."
  • "I am just paying for the log space with Azure Sentinel. It costs us about $2,000 a month. Most of the logs are free. We are only paying money for Azure Firewall logs because email logs or Azure AD logs are free to use for us."
  • "Sentinel is a bit expensive. If you can figure a way of configuring it to meet your needs, then you can find a way around the cost."
  • "Azure Sentinel is very costly, or at least it appears to be very costly. The costs vary based on your ingestion and your retention charges."

  • "We subscribe and pay directly on the website."
  • "The price of SolarWinds Kiwi Syslog Server could improve."

  • "Purchasing Sumo Logic through the AWS Marketplace was a simple step."
  • "Purchasing the solution through the AWS Marketplace is very easy."
  • "We chose to go through the AWS Marketplace because it makes it a lot easier when we bill our customers. Rather than having to get multiple different sources of information then correlate a monthly bill for our customers, it is just included in the AWS usage charges."
  • "The AWS Marketplace pricing is fairly reasonable for what it does. I wouldn't call it expensive, but I wouldn't call it cheap. It is pretty good."
  • "The only limit to the scalability of the product for us is how much we are willing to pay."
  • "The price scaling comes in a bit expensive."
  • "Pricing has been cheaper than some of the competing tools, like Splunk."
  • "If we went to ELK Stack, which is open source, it would have been less costly, but it would have required more development from our side."
