Leveraging AI in Veritas NetBackup Appliance is one of the road maps now that they have done a collaboration with Cohesity, which is a feature I'm looking forward to. Using AI is one improvement I recommend for the Veritas NetBackup Appliance. They have implemented some aspects of AI for features such as malware detection and anomaly detection. I believe they can do more to give customers more insight into their data, allowing them to see it and understand what they can do, such as archiving old data. They can do more by utilizing the data effectively to provide insights to customers about their space usage, future projections, and options for managing old data.

"It's a good product that's pretty easy to use."
"What I like the most about this solution is that I can change and access the Oracle backup file."
"The most valuable feature of the Veritas NetBackup Appliance is the virtual machine backups."
"The encryption feature is very good, the product itself and the new features are excellent, and it is pretty user-friendly compared to other software and very easy to deploy."
"The ability to scale and expand with Veritas NetBackup Appliance is good, and I give it a high rating."
"The product enables me to recover the information of the appliances in the organization."
"The solution offers high-secured appliances and supports enterprise-class encryption algorithms."
"Veritas NetBackup Appliance's most valuable feature is information backup."
"It is very capable of scaling and very good for heterogeneous environments."
"We mainly use Windows for all our operating systems. Our databases are SQL databases. For backups, we set up one master server and three process servers. Our company isn't big, so this setup works well for us. We install the Veritas NetBackup Appliance agent on all the systems that need to be backed up."

Cons

"The new backup systems are using new mechanisms for the recovery phases; for example, VM, recovery and testing the backup before recovering it. These features are not available in Data Protector."
"People prefer Veeam because the interface is easier, and Data Protector is difficult in comparison."
"I don't like this solution so much because it's very technical and compared to Commvault and Veeam, it's not so user-friendly. The interface needs improvement."
"They should design the solution so that it is much easier for deployment and make the UI easy to use."
"Faster VEAgent Restores"
"Micro Focus are improving Data Protector with every new version and since we began undergoing training with the latest version we have not faced any real challenges yet. However, their support does need to be improved, in my opinion. In certain critical cases that we've had, they did not provide a satisfactory level of support."
"We're not satisfied with the robustness and stability of the software since Micro Focus took it in-house. The GUI is one thing they could improve. It's still a bit archaic. Data Protector needs a more functional, user-friendly GUI."
"It has a lot of undeveloped functions like window searching and patent searching, and within the main backup processes like VMware and Microsoft Exchange. It's completely not user-friendly, and it has no built-in antivirus software. In my opinion, Micro Focus Data Protector is not an enterprise level solution."
"The desirability of appliance solutions is dwindling in the marketplace."
"Our main challenge was deciding on the right capacity for expansion, but once we settled on two NAS servers with sixteen TB, things have been smooth."
"With technical support, it feels like they aren't well trained and it takes forever to get answers out of them."
"I contacted their support once, and the process was slow, which discouraged further contact."
"Veritas NetBackup Appliance could improve the configuration, it could be more user-friendly."
"The installation is cumbersome."
"The price could be a bit better."
"It would be a better solution if we were able to make more reports in regards to the backup system."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We have many competitors who are pricing better, and we believe that our pricing is higher."
"Avoid using many LTO drives; when using fewer drives, the price will be extremely good."
"The license for the solution is very expensive compared to the other products in the market."
"There is a perpetual license involved in addition to support which needs to be renewed annually."
"The pricing is neither too expensive nor very cheap."
"The licensing cost was not annual. We didn't pay any license. We paid when we deployed and we didn't pay for anything after that. There were no additional fees after the initial payment."
"The solution requires paying for a license."
"It is more affordable compared to other vendors."
"On a scale of one to ten, where one is a high price and ten is a low price, I rate the pricing a nine."
"The licensing costs are approximately 150,00 Saudi Riyals."
"I rate the solution's pricing a nine out of ten."

"The product is expensive and comes with a yearly license."
