Has provided seamless virtualization and centralized control with strong security and reliable performance
I find almost every feature of Nutanix AHV Virtualization useful, as it's a very nice HCI solution from Nutanix. AHV is their native product, so it's very integrated with all the hardware they provide. Integration is very nice with the baseline hardware. We are using all built-in security features of Nutanix AHV Virtualization, which include encryption. It is very effective in protecting our VMs, and it is very secure. The impact of AHV, such as micro-segmentation, is very effective for us and it's working as per our requirements. We are very happy with the features. Role-Based Access is also a very nice feature for us to define to whom to give admin access and to whom to give read-only access. This kind of authentication helps us distribute tasks within the teams. Using Nutanix AHV Virtualization in a single management pane is very important to me, as it allows us to see everything related to our hardware, software, servers, and VMs from one console. We can reach everything from this one console, which provides a nice inside view for our software, hardware applications, server details, issues, alerts, or any unwanted activity. We are using the non-disruptive operations feature because Nutanix AHV Virtualization is in our production environment, and this feature helps us perform any activity without any downtime.

Significant backup for containers, but the customer service is terrible
Anyone considering this solution should not compare it to the old versions. They should be a partner with Virtuozzo and run all the certifications. Also, they need a good lab to understand the technology and how they can apply that technology conveniently. This is very commercial software. It does not have support, so you will need to be hands-on. I would rate Odin Virtuozzo a six out of 10 overall.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Nutanix AHV's most valuable feature is the one-click upgrade capability."
"The product has helped consolidate a lot of my workload."
"The most valuable feature is manageability."
"It is the simple non-consideration we get with this product that's great. It just works."
"The most valuable part of Nutanix is its centralized management of everything."
"You don't need any other instruments for control, AHV. You only need to look at the prism to control all infrastructure."
"No one in our organization can ignore the value of Nutanix because of the cost reduction that it has afforded us compared to converged products from Cisco or HP."
"The setup is efficient."
"When you run templates on the containers on Virtuozzo they have a lot of back-ups."

Cons

"The management console needs to improve to make it easier for administrators. For example, to be able to reorganize our VMs, folders, and subfolders, similarly as it is provided in VMware. We can sort, manage, and organize VMs, folders, or subfolders in VMware."
"My storage use is doubled; if I am creating a one TB virtual machine then my storage policy will take two TB from my cluster."
"It should focus on providing more detailed and helpful error messages. One area we'd like to see enhanced is better support for guest VMs, especially in a heterogeneous environment."
"If we have to opt for a high level of capacity planning and need more analytics—like deciding on new purchases or budgeting, or if we need additional resources in the near future—we need to pay for Prism Central. I would suggest that Nutanix improve a bit on the analytics part of Prism Element so we can calculate those kinds of things within that flavor."
"The solution is not suitable for all migrations."
"There is room for improvement in the USB mapping."
"When we need to share, publish, or encrypt something, we still need to perform it using the command line."
"If you want to install a specific operating system, you must first check to see if it is listed in the compatibility list; only then will you be able to install it, and that is one issue for now."
"Odin Virtuozzo has poor support and needs to improve."
"Odin Virtuozzo has poor support and needs to improve."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price of the solution can always be lower. However, the price of the solution is reasonable."
"The solution’s pricing is relatively fair."
"The price of Nutanix AHV is reasonable."
"Nutanix AHV Virtualization is expensive. I rate it a six out of ten."
"The pricing depends upon the licenses, considering the number of devices."
"The setup cost for four nodes was about $200,000 (in US currency)."
"I rate the product's price an eight on a scale of one to ten, where one is cheap, and ten is costly. I don't think there are any extra costs in addition to the standard licensing fees of the solution."
"The product is costly and comes with an annual subscription."
"The license for Odin Virtuozzo is based on consumption on demand."
