We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The fast recovery time objective with the ability to bring the environment back to production in case something happens.""The feature which I like the most is that it has the capabilities that the traditional storage system offers. It provides all the functionality. The deduplication and compression work exactly like ONTAP's traditional storage. So people who have experience with that find it very easy to manage.""It makes sure we have control of the data and that we know what it's being used for. The main thing for us is that we need to know what applications are consuming it and responsible for it. The solution helps us do that.""With NetApp, you can integrate malware scanning or malware protection. This is something valuable that is not offered in SaaS solutions typically.""Another feature which gets a lot of attention in our environment is the File Services Solutions in the cloud, because it's a completely, fully-managed service. We don't have to take care of any updates, upgrades, or configurations.""It is much easier to control data since we can run queries across all our platforms with just one solution. Not only that, we can also monitor all the platforms with Active IQ, where we can see all the alerts, messages, and space consumption through a single application. This is regardless if the data is on-prem or AWS. It is much more efficient.""If you have a larger amount of data than normal in cloud, it is easy to provision and maintain. Waiting for the delivery of the controller, the configuration of enclosures, etc., all this stuff is eliminated compared to using on-premise.""So a lot of these licenses are at the rate that is required for capacity. So they're they're able to reduce the license consumption and also the consumption of the underlying cloud storage."

"In terms of dealing with our business-critical workloads, Nutanix is a highly scalable, highly resilient, and very high-performing solution.""The most valuable features of Nutanix Clusters are Prism Central, Micro-segmentation, and cluster scaling automation.""I've been very pleased with their support overall.""Having a single pane of glass where you can have both your on-prem and anything else that you spin up within AWS is useful.""The scalability is good.""The overall infrastructure is the most valuable part of Nutanix Cloud Clusters.""The solution can scale well.""The most valuable feature of Nutanix Clusters is to protect the data."

Cons
"When it comes to a critical or a read-write-intensive application, it doesn't provide the performance that some applications require, especially for SAP. The SAP HANA database has a write-latency of less than 2 milliseconds and the CVO solution does not fit there. It could be used for other databases, where the requirements are not so demanding, especially when it comes to write-latency.""Only AWS and Azure public clouds are currently available from China, and I would like to see support for Aliyun (Alibaba Cloud).""The cost needs improvement.""I would like to have more management tools. They are difficult to work with, so I would like them to be a bit more user-friendly.""There is room for improvement with the capacity. There's a very hard limit to how many disks you can have and how much space you can have. That is something they should work to fix, because it's limiting. Right now, the limit is about 360 terabytes or 36 disks.""If they could include clustering together multiple physical Cloud Volumes ONTAP devices as an option, that could be helpful.""I rate the scalability a five out of ten.""The only issue we had lately was that outside our VPC we could not reach the virtual IP, the floating IP. I heard that they have fixed that..."

"Some of the interfaces aren't as intuitive as they should be.""We've had some challenges with the implementation.""Perhaps the one thing that could be improved is the documentation around the solution.""The technical support for Nutanix Clusters could be better.""The biggest weakness with Clusters at this point is that the adoption rate is low because customers don't know enough about it.""The reporting has room for improvement.""The pricing can be better.""I'd like more flexible options to get in and out of migration modes."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Purchasing through the AWS Marketplace was good, but it was a test system, not a real purchase."
  • "We purchased the product directly from NetApp."
  • "The deal with the seller was acceptable; the pricing is reasonable."
  • "The AWS consumer-based pricing model makes it easy for developers to use their credit cards to spin up virtual servers immediately."
  • "Compared to other storage vendors, NetApp, is not always able to compete with their pricing. Yet, we acknowledge the ease of use ONTAP brings with the AWS integration."
  • "They allow a special price if you are working closely with them. Since we have a lot of NetApp systems, we got some kind of discount. That's something they do for other customers, not just for us. The price was fair. In addition to the licensing fees, you're paying Amazon for your usage..."
  • "The standard pricing is online. Pricing depends. If you're using the PayGo model, then it's just the normal costs on the Microsoft page. If you're using Bring Your Own License, which is what we're doing, then you get with your sales contact at NetApp and start figuring out what price is the best, in the end, for your company."
  • "In addition to the standard licensing fees, there are fees for Azure, the VMs themselves and for data transfer."

  • "I am working on one configuration that is priced at $50,000 USD, whereas another one that I'm working on is estimated to cost $250,000 USD."
  • "There are positives and negatives to licensing. It all makes sense now, but it took a while. When the licenses first changed, it was a bit confusing."
  • "The solution has been more costly at this point. We do not see any cost savings."
  • "The price is high."
