Enhances data protection strategies and ensures the reliability of backups with helpful support
The features we have found most valuable in NAKIVO Backup & Replication include its cost-effectiveness, seamless integrations, comprehensive functionalities, and ease of installation and management. The pricing model is very competitive, providing excellent value for the robust features offered. Its seamless integration with our VMware infrastructure ensures smooth operation without any compatibility issues. The wide range of functionalities, including incremental and full backups, storage optimization, and disaster recovery options, meets all our backup needs comprehensively. Moreover, the simplicity of installation and the intuitive user interface have made it easy for our team to quickly set up and manage the backups without requiring extensive training.

Though a highly stable tool, it needs to be made easier to use and configure
Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a five out of ten. OpenText Data Protector is complex to configure correctly, but the areas concerning the data and compression are good. Once you get the product to work, it works, but it's much too complex to configure and troubleshoot, as it takes a lot of time and energy, making it not so efficient. Once the tool is configured in your environment, it provides good backup and compression features. In my company, we use OpenText Data Protector as a backup for our servers, and we have a team of 20 people to take care of the data backup using the tool. My company doesn't use OpenText Data Protector as a backup for our client's computers. In my company, we have scheduled the process related to backup, which makes the tool run daily around 30 to 40 times.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Most valuable for DimenXional Cloud is the API provided by Nakivo which allows us to implement the software in all types of solutions."
"The product is easy to manage for any IT person who is new to backup, recovery, and replication."
"The features that we like the most are the Backup Copy and Active Directory Integration. They have helped us to save a lot of time since we do not have to make the backup copies “by hand”."
"The ability to create a replica of all virtual machines is a great feature."
"It can be quickly configured via web pages."
"This solution was surprisingly easy to configure."
"The backup for physical machines and replication for the virtual environment are the most valuable aspects."
"The cost aspect and the ease of licensing, along with simplified licensing, are most valuable."
"The initial setup was relatively easy."
"This solution is quite stable because we have only three users."
"Micro Focus Data Protector's most valuable feature is its interaction with the fiber share. It is easy to use, we use it to back up without any problem to VTLs, and can use the Fiber Channel that is still the TCP."
"In one of the projects involving a database and UCMDB integration, we needed to manage a large database. We used the scheduling feature in Data Protector to automate backups."
"It's supports Unix, Linux, all of the OS's. It's very stable software."
"I haven't experienced any crashes while using the solution...Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten."
"The most valuable features of this solution were the features we worked most with which were telemetry, and the scheduler."
"It's user-friendly and not overly complicated to configure."

Cons

"NAKIVO should broaden its horizons in terms of compatibility and integration with other tools."
"We are satisfied with Nakivo, but if anything could be improved, I think it would be more real-time as opposed to email support availability."
"An improvement would be to include a general data backup solution that is not only for virtual machines."
"The process for getting unused diskspace back from the data repository is slow."
"It would be interesting if it were possible to integrate a mobile app to monitor the system in real-time."
"Integrations maybe helpful for NAKIVO. I think end-to-end backup and user backup will be useful to have. The price could be reduced as well. I also think that AD integration should be more available."
"Automatic updates do not work, and every update has to be done manually."
"There are features that we would like to be integrated such as the ability to exclude directories, the creation of an image for bare metal restore as well as the creation of Plesk integration to use NAKIVO as a Plesk backup tool."
"The product can be developed by including functionalities like DR, CDP, and SureBackup, which are currently unavailable in the solution."
"We face challenges with its stability."
"In SAP restoration, we faced issues with changing the SIDs and changing the path for every backup object. It is quite a lengthy process to do that."
"Many of our users complain about the GUI. You still need to rely on the command line interface. Because it originated as a Unix system, Data Protector is still a command line-driven solution, which makes it seem rather dated compared to systems that are built around a GUI from day one. It doesn't affect the functionality, but some people don't find it user-friendly."
"If you compare the solution with the same specific features and enhancements on another solution, Data Protector is expensive. This is especially true when compared to, for example, Veeam."
"The challenge is that we can't restore a single file from the VM in the data process when we do VM backups. But with Commvault, you can restore a single file even if you have a VM snapshot package. That's one drawback of this tool. When we do VM backups, it should help us browse the VMs to restore a single file instead of doing the complete VM restore."
"I don't like this solution so much because it's very technical and compared to Commvault and Veeam, it's not so user-friendly. The interface needs improvement."
"Micro Focus Data Protector must improve its overall evolution record. They need to focus on hardware based instant recovery, client recovery, and cloud ability. Now there is no cloud ability."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We use a perpetual license that is priced well."
"Nakivo is cheaper per machine and per backup."
"Pricing is easy to understand and very affordable."
"The licensing model is very affordable compared to competitors, with a good quality-to-cost ratio, and the software is quite simple and fast to setup."
"The price is not a problem in NAKIVO, as it is the most competitive in the market."
"The solution's pricing is adequate for its features and quality."
"The licensing model is crystal clear on the website."
"It's really cheap, and our company saves a significant amount of money on IT backup solutions per year."
"Our licensing is on a capacity basis."
"The pricing is neither too expensive nor very cheap."
"It is more affordable compared to other vendors."
"Pricing for Micro Focus Data Protector is reasonable."
"It is fast, reliable, and its licensing policy is great."
"The license for the solution is very expensive compared to the other products in the market."
"Data Protector's pricing is very competitive and we have no issues in this regard. I would give it an eight out of ten in terms of pricing."
"The product is cheaper than Commvault."
