Cloud security has cut investigation time and now reveals threats faster but needs simpler oversight
When deploying AI applications, my key security concerns with Microsoft Defender for Cloud are data loss, leakage of data, and guardrails around the actual AI, and I am hoping that this is going to help me put those guardrails in place and identify data exfiltration. Microsoft Defender for Cloud has not helped me manage and secure multi-cloud environments, as we are 100 percent Microsoft and have not really got it in any other environment at all. I am not yet using the unified AI-powered security feature offered by Microsoft Defender for Cloud, but that is coming. I am not yet using the integrated XDR feature of Microsoft Defender for Cloud, but that is coming. I am not yet utilizing the GenAI threat protection features of Microsoft Defender for Cloud. That is also coming and a lot of that will come from learning it here. I have enabled the agentless scanning in my cloud environment with Microsoft Defender for Cloud. Assessing the impact on my workload protection without needing to install agents with Microsoft Defender for Cloud makes it a lot easier, but it also identifies a lot more, which puts more load on me sometimes. I would advise another organization considering Microsoft Defender for Cloud that it is the most logical route to follow if their whole ecosystem is Microsoft. It is easy to implement and it is very self-explanatory when doing it, making sense to just follow the steps as it is too simple, really. I would rate this review a 7.5 out of 10.

Centralized dashboard has simplified multi‑cloud cluster management and has boosted team productivity
The best feature I will mention of Rafay Kubernetes Operations Platform is the centralized multi-cluster management feature, which allows us not to worry about accessing different clusters, as it provides us with a single interface through which we can manage all the different users, namespaces, and cluster resources. This is what I and my team love working with because we don't have to worry about the different clusters that we are working with. The central multi-cluster management feature saves us time because earlier we used to create a ticket for access to different cloud providers, which took time to get access, but with Rafay Kubernetes Operations Platform, we have multi-cluster support that makes it really easy for our team and saves our time. The GitOps flow that Rafay Kubernetes Operations Platform has is something I'm looking into. I haven't extensively used that aspect, but there's discussion in my team about using their GitOps flow to onboard different new clusters, so I'm still researching that area and seeing how we can use it in our use case. Rafay Kubernetes Operations Platform has positively impacted our organization by increasing overall productivity as a team because we are a big team with many people working on Kubernetes clusters on different public clouds. Earlier it was a hassle for the DevOps team since they had to manage all the cluster access, but with Rafay Kubernetes Operations Platform, it has really improved our productivity, allowing us to do many things ourselves since the admin provides a single access for specific areas.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Microsoft Defender for Cloud has benefited my organization by reducing the overall cost of the Azure package and providing greater peace of mind during off-hours to prevent problems."
"Microsoft Defender for Cloud has made our environment more secure."
"I appreciate the features of Microsoft Defender for Cloud the most because it incorporates itself into the entire Microsoft platform, and it's a one-stop shop for administration in the web."
"One important security feature is the incident alerts. Now, with all these cyberattacks, there are a lot of incident alerts that get triggered. It is very difficult to keep monitoring everything automatically, instead our organization is utilizing the automated use case that we get from Microsoft. That has helped bring down the manual work for a lot of things."
"Right after I joined the company, that was one of the first things that I advised them to do and a couple of weeks later, we caught at least two big vulnerabilities that could have caused a catastrophic problem for our business."
"When we started out, our secure score was pretty low, we adopted some of the recommendations that Security Center set out and we were able to make good progress on improving it, as it had been in the low thirties and is now in the upper eighties."
"The pricing is good."
"Defender gave us more substantial visibility into our security, helping us increase our overall security posture and manage risks throughout the entire organization."
"Rafay Kubernetes Operations Platform has positively impacted our organization by increasing overall productivity as a team because we are a big team with many people working on Kubernetes clusters on different public clouds."

Cons

"It's very expensive in terms of the need to maintain it actively."
"Azure's system could be more on point like AWS support. For example, if I have an issue with AWS, I create a support ticket, then I get a call or a message. With Azure support, you raise a ticket, and somebody calls back depending on their availability and the priority, which might not align with your business priority."
"So, Azure Security Center fell short from the regulatory compliance point of view, and we had to use one more product."
"It's hard to reach someone who understands my problems. I haven't had many issues, so I haven't called them."
"While we are satisfied with Defender for Cloud's features, an AI enhancement could potentially provide better advice and adapt more effectively to our environment."
"Microsoft Defender could be more centralized. For example, I still need to go to another console to do policy management."
"The customer service at Microsoft has room for improvement. The first line of support is not technically adept and often requires engaging higher-level technicians to resolve issues."
"Microsoft Defender for Cloud is not compatible with Linux machines."
"From a normal point of view, most things are good with Rafay Kubernetes Operations Platform, but I think there is a bit of a learning curve for new users unfamiliar with the platform, as it sometimes takes time to understand what exactly we are doing there and how everything works."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"There are improvements that have to be made to the licensing. Currently, for servers, it has to be done by grouping the servers on a single subscription... We don't have an option whereby, if all those resources are in one subscription, we can have each of the individual servers subject to different planning."
"The price of the solution is good for the features we receive and there is an additional cost for Microsoft premier support. However, some of my potential customers have found it to be expensive and have gone on to choose another solution."
"Understanding the costs of cloud services can be complicated at first. As with a lot of things in the cloud, it can be quite hard to understand the end cost, but it becomes clearer over time. Early on, the lack of transparency is a challenge. Microsoft does not tell you the cost when they launch something. It is clever marketing, and there is room for improvement there. There should be clarity from the start."
"I am not involved much with the pricing but the bundle offering is good."
"This is a worldwide service and depending on the country, there will be different prices."
"Microsoft Defender for Cloud is pricey, especially for Kubernetes clusters."
"Currently, Microsoft offers only one plan at the enterprise level which is $15 per machine."
"I rate Microsoft Defender a three out of ten for affordability. The price could be a little lower."
