Tool consistently aids in effective threat detection and monitoring but could benefit from improved log source management and resource optimization
One major area for improvement in LogRhythm SIEM is the lack of volume measurement capability in terms of storage. There is currently no way to determine how much data is being consumed in terms of gigabytes, terabytes, or petabytes from particular devices or environments. This information is crucial for planning future storage needs and scalability. The system monitor (collector) agent has issues with resource consumption. Even when not actively collecting data, the agent continues to consume significant CPU and memory resources, which can be particularly problematic for small business environments with limited resources. LogRhythm SIEM could improve by adding more default device support. While they have good default settings for devices such as Palo Alto firewalls, custom log sources often require extensive work. Increasing the number of supported devices with built-in policies and functionality would reduce the need for custom work. Competitive SIEM tools often provide more comprehensive coverage for various devices and vendors.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I would rate the product a ten out of ten. The solution is very user-friendly and straightforward. The tool's report customization is interesting."
"We use this solution to examine disparate log sources and provide a cohesive method to search for anomalous behavior."
"The security operation center is excellent."
"As a SIEM, probably the best feature is that it can be tuned effectively. There are very few SIEMs out there that can be effectively tuned to provide you with meaningful information and not be overwhelmed."
"We integrated Azure logs with it and that makes it simpler. Rather than having to log into the portal, we can just check everything in one place. We can compare those to our Windows and host logs to see if any problems correlate between them."
"We have to be able to show the evidence, and LogRhythm does a great job of putting it forward and making it easy to create reports with nice looking dashboards, which show off what we are doing as a security program."
"The ability for me to go into the Web UI, and just learn what's going on in my environment."
"The user interface is good."
"The security level that they are maintaining with the pre-authentication keys is very good."

Cons

"The product's initial setup phase is pretty complex."
"The initial setup is not so easy because it is quite a process."
"More help and assistance with some of the open source products, everything seems to be focused on Windows versus giving some guidance and some documentation on how to use it."
"The web and on-premise console interface should be the same instead of having a separate engine for each."
"We use Windows Event Forwarding to collect the logs from our Windows clients, and the logs get aggregated as one data source on that collector. Therefore, finding logs specific to one particular Windows system requires some creativity in how we search the SIEM."
"The customer support system is time-consuming."
"The console installation is an area with a shortcoming in the solution that needs improvement. If LogRhythm SIEM can offer a web console, it would be great."
"I don't think the cloud model in LogRhythm is developed enough."
"The solution could improve by providing better documentation for beginners to learn, such as videos or other tutorials."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We have seen a measurable decrease in the mean time to detect and respond to threats. As it comes out new features and new releases, the window is becoming a lot narrower because you can pivot a lot more with the data. Therefore, the new features and enhancements are reducing that."
"Look for whatever will give you the most value. That's the main point. It is not one size fits all."
"NextGen SIEM's pricing is moderate."
"I give the price a six out of ten."
"On a scale of one to ten, I'd rate the pricing of this solution as a seven - not too expensive but not cheap either. Regarding licensing costs, it varies depending on factors like being a partner or an end user, but there are no additional costs aside from standard licensing fees for the basic SIEM solution."
"Look closely at the cost of licensing of other products. This should include setups and the need for support services. I did a RFQ to 2 other vendors before choosing this product."
"I would recommend that whatever sales quotes to them upfront, they will probably go up. Because they are probably going to outgrow that very quickly or once they start getting everything into it, they are going to have to move up anyway."
"The pricing is very reasonable and accessible compared to other products in the market but I am not very sure about the exact licensing cost per year for our company."
"The solution is not expensive for the data security measure you receive, it is reasonable."
