Easy to scale and good record to report capabilities but needs better training
It's not a very popular tool. There are very limited resources available in the market in terms of implementation. They need to offer training plans for graduates so that more resources are available in the market. The support needs to be faster. The solution needs to be lighter. It's a bit too heavy.

Helps monitor queries and identify which indexes need to be created in the databases
SQL Server is very simple due to its GUI, which is available for users. It allows for modifications and has execution plans available, along with options such as activity monitoring. This helps monitor queries and identify which indexes need to be created in the databases, tables, or columns to improve performance.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution scales easily."
"It's great that the database engine is always on."
"The pricing of the product is very good."
"The solution has the capability to scale."
"The SQL Server is low maintenance, it does not require advanced technical skills to maintain or use it as you might in other similar database solutions. You need some knowledge on how to access the solution and how to query it but it is fairly straightforward."
"It is easy to use and easy to perform a backup."
"We have found there are many useful features such as the solution is continually being upgraded, ETL capabilities for extracting and transformation, and it is very easy to use."
"We have found the feature that allows us to publish web applications to be valuable."
"The product can scale if a company needs it to."

Cons

"There are very limited resources available in the market in terms of implementation. They need to offer training plans for graduates so that more resources are available in the market."
"It pesters you to update the Client every month when there is nothing new that you really need to add, but it is constantly pestering you. I do not care for it."
"Sometimes the system hangs. Its databases should be able to deal with more data in a faster way. Its speed of processing larger amounts of information should be improved."
"Their datatypes need improvement."
"The solution could improve by being more user-friendly."
"For small-scale businesses, Microsoft could improve by removing some limits in SQL Express."
"I would like Microsoft to evolve SQL Server because stateful databases dying are in a way. We would like to find out if it can absorb Hadoop and other similar things. They should make it useful for data mining. Data is evolving forever, and how we store it is also changing constantly. So, SQL Server also needs to change."
"The performance degrades when the data is huge."
"The way to make cursors and manage raw data in rows can be improved. Currently, the way to construct or build these cursors is very hard, and you can waste memory. You need a highly skilled person to make it more efficient. It can also have support for Cubes, which is the organization of data in different dimensions by using MDX languages."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"The licensing is on an annual basis."
"The SQL server is affordable. I rate the pricing a five out of ten."
"The licenses are really expensive. Their licensing model should be more simplistic."
"It is expensive."
"We are a Microsoft shop, so we use Active Directory. That integrates well with this product, but we did look at Oracle. We also looked at IBM. This was the best price point for us for what we were getting."
"The product is expensive."
"This is a downside of enterprise Microsoft products."
"Licensing fees increase depending on size and performance. If you want higher performance, you should go for a different course."
