Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"I like the test cases in Jira. The orange dash items view was great, and I like the features and layout of the data. It's quite different, and people are now getting their items so quickly.""Offers a common language set so we can bring people into projects and get them up and running almost immediately.""The pricing of the product is very good. It's not too expensive""The most valuable feature is working with sprints and having the ability to create sprints.""The solution provides users with clarity in terms of the scope of work in a given timeframe.""Has a good dashboard with good tracking features.""What I find valuable about Jira is that it's an ecosystem. Sometimes, it does not provide the best in class solutions, but it's so well integrated. You will not have many problems with integration.""It is user-friendly, and you can manage your project according to the methodology you want. It is also easy to configure."

"On the user side, what I like a lot is the reporting capabilities. There's no tool, to my knowledge, that gets anywhere close to Octane at the moment when it comes to the reporting capabilities. I can do everything with the reporting. There's nothing missing. I have all the options. I can create graphs, including graphs of several types and looks.""An improvement on previous versions because it comes as preconfigured as possible.""The key feature is the usability. It is fast to learn and easy to use. It's very intuitive to work with. Most of the important functions are available via a few clicks, compared to other tools where I have to open a sub-menu and then a sub-menu and another sub-menu, and then press a button.""The user experience is a lot better than any tool that I have used before. Overall, it is great. It has a smooth interface, which is very user-friendly. It makes it easier to work together and have more transparency and customization, which is very good.""Current version of the solution is fairly stable.""The solution natively supports Agile-Waterfall hybrid software development at an enterprise scale. This is very important to us. Because even though the company wishes to go Agile, we still have projects which follow a Waterfall methodology. In order for us to accommodate both, we needed some sort of hybrid system. Because if we are using a fully Agile system, then the reporting might not be correctly extracted.""Its end-to-end traceability is one of the big advantages. Most of our agile projects work in a closed team structure. We are seeing what is the flow, where we are, and what is the project milestone. So, it provides end-to-end traceability and good visibility of project milestones.""The defect management gives us full-fledged capabilities for handling defects, including capturing the details of the defects and even screenshotting the defect cases. The defect management is comprehensive."

Cons
"A more organized hierarchy is important. Reporting and JQL create issues for me. They do not completely cover the reporting part that I need to report in terms of my capacity to plan. In the same token, there is no record at this very moment to provide me with one export with epics story points, tasks, or issues and their sub-tasks at the same time.""Jira is raising their prices for the license, which is like a trap because many other providers offer services like Jira but for much cheaper.""If Jira would be interested in offering a SharePoint version, it would be beneficial.""The Classic UI is a little bit messy. UX experience is also a little bit messy and is not according to the expectation of a tech user.""Although it covers the overall requirements and measurements, it'll help if they had their own test execution feature.""Sometimes the solution doesn't communicate well with other platforms. It's quite difficult to integrate things and make the data flow from A to B, to Jira, and then back to other areas.""Whenever you edit a story, whatever you have changed takes a bit of time to save.""Could be more stable with more integrations."

More Jira Cons →

"Security and security management, meaning the integration of the security, could be enhanced. We know about Fortify, but it would be better to have security features in the original Octane platform without the need for another solution or another application.""I would like to see the mobile testing improved so that we can simply select a mobile device, then specify what parameters we want, and the testing will be run based on that.""The limitation of Octane is that we can't do a release outside of the sprint. We can only plan the release in the sprint. With Agile and JIRA tools, we can plan the release outside the sprint and do a global release of all the projects from the sprint.""Updating items, sorting, bulk updates—these things could have a bit more flexibility, but it's still possible to do them.""The cluster architecture that we implemented was server to server communication: Octane application to Elasticsearch and Elasticsearch to another Elasticsearch service. Recently, we found this is a security gap. The Octane application is interacting with Elasticsearch server, but that was missing from the requirements and prerequisites in the setup. The Micro Focus team has not given advice on how to implement authentication-based communication between Octane to Elasticsearch, and we found it as a gap later, then our security team asked us to fix that gap. So, there was a lot of time spent on rework.""They don't support all IDEs yet. We have Visual Studio code, which is not supported, and loved by our developers. This integration is missing. We also had to do our own in-house integration with the Confluence. That is also something that they could add.""Documentation is not clear.""Technical support can be slow."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "I don't feel that price is an issue."
  • "It is not too expensive. It is just comparative to other tools like Microsoft Teams."
  • "I am not sure if the client is using a commercial version. I think it is on a per-user basis, and it is around 15 Canadian dollars for a user, but I'm not sure. It also has a free version."
  • "As a company, we get a subsidized price, and it's lower than what's quoted on their website."
  • "We are using the enterprise license which is nice because it ensures that we always have the latest versions of Jira software."
  • "Its price is fine, but we would like it to be less expensive. We are paying on a yearly basis."
  • "We are a regional research and education institute. We're using the free license provided for educational institutes."
  • "One of my customers told me that they were receiving better pricing for a similar tool from Microsoft."
  • More Jira Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Going forward, I think we will want to explore adding more licenses."
  • "The solution has reduced our testing costs."
  • "Microsoft is a big challenge for Micro Focus when it comes to pricing because they are much cheaper. But it definitely depends on the complexity of the environment. If it has multiple technologies, at that point, looking at other options and Microsoft would be a feasible approach."
  • "The comparison is always with Jira, so the pricing of Octane is a bit on the higher side. But if you look at what you have to add to Jira, on the plug-in side, to have the same abilities you have with Octane, you're more or less even, or even ahead with Octane."
  • "There is a conversion fee for changing licenses."
  • "The cost of this product is very high."
