With the help of the solution, we can predict and prevent failures
Currently, the most valuable thing for an individual is a mobile device. Since that is where people are currently tracking everything, we have multiple applications or apps that are for various products. I would like ITRS Geneos to develop an app, where instead of going to specific login terminals or logging into laptops or desktops to check alerts, we can have visibility in the app itself. Using the ITRS Geneos app, we could see the error message during our travels or wherever we are. I would like to see the capacity of messages for forecasting increased. Since the NSE is the number one derivative stock exchange in the work for three consecutive years, the number of messages is important. We use the capacity planner in ITRS to forecast our data needs for the next two months. The planner is important because the volume of data we produce is becoming more and more volatile compared to when we first started using ITRS Geneos in 2014.

Real-time monitoring has improved our banking API performance and supports detailed business transaction analysis
The real-time monitoring is what we can see for anything that is needed in terms of CPU, memory, or the connections or the sessions related. It's real-time monitoring of performance of each of the components, which is what we need and use all the time. It's highly effective, I would say. Infrastructure visibility, transaction monitoring, to check the actual user experience in terms of the response time, MRT and all those things. We do the component monitoring like the API performance and the connections and all those things, but we also do the business process monitoring and business transaction monitoring.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I would say that it is an easy-to-use monitoring tool. Amongst the available monitoring tools, it is a really good option."
"Geneos automatically sends email notifications when any batch job fails, the database is down or the website is down; it is automatically monitoring everything and reduces manual effort."
"Ability to monitor logs for potential issues to prevent app outages before problems get a chance to arise. That's invaluable for our teams in a fast-paced trading environment."
"ITRS Active Console has helped us monitor servers and set thresholds for different metrics, is easy to setup, works with different kinds of servers, and also helps you execute shell scripts as a response to alerts."
"This solution has helped provide relief to existing Level 2 teams, allowing them to focus efforts on in-depth problem analysis."
"The good thing is you get something out of it day one, you don't need years of training, and then you can build on that."
"It's a very good tool to use and everybody is very happy with it."
"Complete end-to-end monitoring of apps and infrastructure with key performance metrics to identify and reduce transaction latencies."
"The features we find most valuable are real-time monitoring, seeing transactions, being proactive and easy to focus on the real problem."
"Knowing which tables on the database were working the most was valuable. It helped the client understand where they need to focus. They streamlined a lot of their queries and brought the resource usage down. It helped them to find long-running queries. They rewrote them completely so that they don't take as long and the application performs better."
"It works great for doing what you need, when you want to track response times and error rates; and especially being able to dig down to individual transactions and see the actual call methods."
"It's a very good tool for real time getting to things quick and fixing them."
"It is not a cheap tool, but you also save in manpower to setup because it is easy and fast."
"With AppDynamics, we were able to identify where the database query was taking more time, whether it was taking time on logical IOs or physical IOs, and it is also giving proactive alerts that help us to narrow down issues much more quickly and fix them before they start impacting our customers."
"The product provides a nice end-user experience."
"APM really helps us in getting down to the bottom of these sorts of workloads; how code responds to these sorts of workloads and how we can make our application deliver better latency and a better end-user experience."

Cons

"We sometimes experienced disconnects of the gateways which was a hard one to resolve."
"Geneos' application monitoring could be improved a lot. Products like AppDynamics and Dynatrace provide the process thread-level monitoring, but Geneos lacks these capabilities."
"Currently, it is difficult to monitor secure websites using SSL or with SSO enabled."
"A bit complex"
"I would also like to see suggested guidelines to accomplish a monitoring task. The issue is that ITRS is so flexible that there is more than one way to complete a task, each with benefits and disadvantages."
"Currently, it is difficult to monitor secure websites using SSL or with SSO enabled."
"I would like better access to the data that is being collected."
"The main weakness of the product is poor historical logging and reporting."
"I would like them to change their business model for scalability to accommodate growing companies. The business model should be more flexible."
"Application Analytics' performance in pure and native cloud environments could be improved."
"I wouldn't say I am 100% satisfied. There have been times that it fails."
"The Log Analytics feature is a bit complicated."
"The graphical display of the monitoring data is very simple and unscientific."
"An area that has room for improvement on the CR and ERP would be the addition of monitoring of the internal solution. For example, you can monitor the day-to-day and everything in the transactions with AppDynamics, but there's also a lot going on in the kernel itself that you cannot monitor. The automation needs to improve as well. As it stands, a lot of customization needs to happen before you can use AppDynamics."
"Customer support takes time. Whenever we face any issues, we have to open the vendor case and then there will be back and forth happening."
"At first, I thought it had a high learning curve. However, it's not so much. It's just different. It's different from all the other tools and it's just not as intuitive as it could be."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The organization is not just purchasing a license for the product, but also managing services and professional services from ITRS. Another factor is if the implementation is going to be in production, non-production, or both."
"I can say it's not that cheap because the licensing is a little bit costly"
"Based on feedback from colleagues and friends working in the financial sector, Geneos is relatively costly. Many companies have been switching from Geneos to Dynatrace, Sysdig, or other monitoring tools in the past two years because of the price."
"Pricing and licensing is based on the requirements."
"The market tools are on par with this solution, but if the solution included more features, then it would be well within the range for the cost."
"The product is priced quite high. There are pricing options for customers based on the size of the environment and plug-ins used by the monitoring system."
"You will get the best price if you get a single global deal."
"ITRS Geneos is not a cheap tool. It's a moderate price for the banking industry. The reason we are not able to add the ITRS monitoring tool for the non-banking industries, and non-finance industries, is that the pricing is too high."
"The pricing of the solution is reasonable for what features you receive."
"It is a more expensive APM among the competitors, which is fine because it also does a lot more on the auto-detection and the AI side... It is not a cheap product. None of them are. The price is fair, but I could use it on more projects if they had a lower price."
"Take into consideration what you get for specific pricing models and how much it costs to add on things you may need later."
"We have purchased a few licenses for AppDynamics Database Monitoring and the price is high."
"As compared to other applications, its price is moderate. Its price is neither very high nor very low."
"The solution has a high cost."
"The pricing for AppDynamics is expensive, but it is possible to negotiate special pricing through bids."
"The product is a bit expensive compared to other tools."

There are many factors and we know little about your requirements (size of org, technology stack, management systems, the scope of implementation). Our goal was to consolidate APM and infra monitor...
What is your experience regarding pricing and costs for AppDynamics?
I would rate the pricing an eight out of ten. The solution is highly expensive. Our company pays for the solution on a yearly basis, if we don't add new modules or features to the license, we need ...
