With the help of the solution, we can predict and prevent failures
Currently, the most valuable thing for an individual is a mobile device. Since that is where people are currently tracking everything, we have multiple applications or apps that are for various products. I would like ITRS Geneos to develop an app, where instead of going to specific login terminals or logging into laptops or desktops to check alerts, we can have visibility in the app itself. Using the ITRS Geneos app, we could see the error message during our travels or wherever we are. I would like to see the capacity of messages for forecasting increased. Since the NSE is the number one derivative stock exchange in the work for three consecutive years, the number of messages is important. We use the capacity planner in ITRS to forecast our data needs for the next two months. The planner is important because the volume of data we produce is becoming more and more volatile compared to when we first started using ITRS Geneos in 2014.

Real-time monitoring has improved our banking API performance and supports detailed business transaction analysis
The real-time monitoring is what we can see for anything that is needed in terms of CPU, memory, or the connections or the sessions related. It's real-time monitoring of performance of each of the components, which is what we need and use all the time. It's highly effective, I would say. Infrastructure visibility, transaction monitoring, to check the actual user experience in terms of the response time, MRT and all those things. We do the component monitoring like the API performance and the connections and all those things, but we also do the business process monitoring and business transaction monitoring.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"One of the most valuable features is that it can be configured by non-developers. It doesn't require development expertise to configure it."
"It's catching things that are going wrong before they become catastrophic, in most cases."
"This is the most amazing monitoring tool I've ever worked with, because it allows you to monitor a lot of things and also to address the issue and assign it to someone so everyone will know it's being investigated."
"The NetProbe carries over 100 samplers which are capable of monitoring hardware, OS, and the application layer."
"I would say that it is an easy-to-use monitoring tool. Amongst the available monitoring tools, it is a really good option."
"Geneos gives us visibility on all of our systems at once and we can build dashboard views to monitor transactions moving from one system to another."
"The biggest benefit of Geneos is the fact that we can clearly see, if we have an alert, where that alert has come from. We can see the data around that alert and anything that might be relevant is also shown. We can very easily right-click and see why we've received that alert. That's the best part about it, that you've got all the data there with the alerting."
"Real-time monitoring of market data components on an enterprise environment is the most valuable feature of Active Console and Gateway."
"It gives me the ability to trace logs between transactions, for example, a DB transaction or JVM transaction from one hub to the other. I can easily find out where the problem is or where the bottleneck of the issues lies."
"The real user monitoring and digital experience monitoring effectively track actual user experience with the applications, including page loading, interaction time for both desktop and mobile applications."
"There are so many tools in the market, depending upon the criteria and what you want, I would definitely suggest AppDynamics, because of the REST things and all of that."
"I have seen a return on investment with Splunk AppDynamics, as we are investing more and more for Splunk AppDynamics because we have many tools and many applications in our organization."
"The most valuable feature is just the sheer visibility it gives us, especially being on the performance team."
"Unified Monitoring Application Performance Management End User Monitoring Infrastructure Visibility Application Analytics Business Insights: real-time insights into IT operations, customer experience and business outcome."
"The most valuable feature is having our services being available and healthy."
"This is a stable product and we definitely plan to continue using it in the future."

Cons

"It needs to have better middleware integration for things such as application and Microsoft SQL servers."
"Sometimes, if there is a lot of data coming onto the servers, we have observed a little bit of slowness on the gateway servers which are doing the ITRS dashboard monitoring."
"I would like better access to the data that is being collected."
"Much of the reporting outside of the user interface is very basic and requires much customization to be useful."
"Backward compatibility with deprecated features and in system documentation on what configuration areas are needed to be updated."
"Much of the reporting outside of the user interface is very basic and requires much customization to be useful."
"For the solution to stay relevant in the cloud-based monitoring environment Geneos needs more plug-ins with more features. Instead of offering clients workarounds, the solution should have a cloud-based out-of-the-box version."
"One area where there is room for improvement is the log file. I would like to be able to do a pre-run on the log files. When you are testing log files for regular expressions, it would be good to be able to do a quick check up front on that side of things before you release that into production."
"The network diagnostics that they are adding will be really useful. They could add more detail into what is going on in the network."
"It needs strengthening in the database tiers."
"The interface and user experience could be better."
"Currently, the .NET agent consumes the CPU or memory and clients usually raise this issue with my team, so it would be good if the on-premises version doesn't require agent installation on the machine."
"Product-wise, everything is good, but the main concern is the extensions and their documentation, particularly for the installation of Azure app services."
"The integration with cloud services is still pending with AppDynamics. We would like the product to be serverless."
"However, we have a slight complexity where for infrastructure we have to go to one agent, for the database we have to go to one agent, and for the application we go to another agent."
"We would love to see support for more types of agents in the mainframe world."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"ITRS Geneos is not a cheap tool. It's a moderate price for the banking industry. The reason we are not able to add the ITRS monitoring tool for the non-banking industries, and non-finance industries, is that the pricing is too high."
"Pricing and licensing is based on the requirements."
"When I first came in, their pricing was very high. ITRS had a high expectation of what their price should be based on perceived value. I think they have been realizing, more recently, that there are other competitors, so their pricing is a lot better. Licensing for on-premise is okay, however I feel there is quite some work to be done for cloud and containers. We're still working with them to try and work out what that pricing should look like."
"Pricing is the touchy subject, even here. Upper management always wants us to find a cheaper solution. But we have so much integrated with ITRS... It's expensive, but it does its job very well. And you set it and go."
"Given our spend and the amount of service we have in it, the pricing is quite reasonable."
"The market tools are on par with this solution, but if the solution included more features, then it would be well within the range for the cost."
"It is expensive. They have to look at the model around when we move to cloud and how that's going to work. The licensing cost does pay off because of the improvements in support to our business."
"You will get the best price if you get a single global deal."
"There is an annual cost for the use of this solution."
"I rate AppDynamics Mobile Real-User Monitoring's pricing as seven out of ten. Mobile monitoring is paid based on the number of instances utilizing the mobile monitoring service, which increases as the scale grows. Consequently, your mobile user count can proportionally surpass all other applications."
"We have a license-based solution. That means you need a license for each server you monitor."
"There is a license for the solution and we paid approximately $2,000. There is also an additional cost above the standard license which cost us approximately $3,000."
"The pricing model for AppDynamics could be better. You have to subscribe to a yearly or a three-year licensing, which isn't very handy. The solution is one of the most expensive in the market today."
"Purchasing the product through the AWS Marketplace was good."
"We have purchased a few licenses for AppDynamics Database Monitoring and the price is high."
"There is no standard license instead, the license is adapted to the organization's requirements."
