With the help of the solution, we can predict and prevent failures
Currently, the most valuable thing for an individual is a mobile device. Since that is where people are currently tracking everything, we have multiple applications or apps that are for various products. I would like ITRS Geneos to develop an app, where instead of going to specific login terminals or logging into laptops or desktops to check alerts, we can have visibility in the app itself. Using the ITRS Geneos app, we could see the error message during our travels or wherever we are. I would like to see the capacity of messages for forecasting increased. Since the NSE is the number one derivative stock exchange in the work for three consecutive years, the number of messages is important. We use the capacity planner in ITRS to forecast our data needs for the next two months. The planner is important because the volume of data we produce is becoming more and more volatile compared to when we first started using ITRS Geneos in 2014.

Real-time monitoring has improved our banking API performance and supports detailed business transaction analysis
The real-time monitoring is what we can see for anything that is needed in terms of CPU, memory, or the connections or the sessions related. It's real-time monitoring of performance of each of the components, which is what we need and use all the time. It's highly effective, I would say. Infrastructure visibility, transaction monitoring, to check the actual user experience in terms of the response time, MRT and all those things. We do the component monitoring like the API performance and the connections and all those things, but we also do the business process monitoring and business transaction monitoring.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Ability to monitor logs for potential issues to prevent app outages before problems get a chance to arise. That's invaluable for our teams in a fast-paced trading environment."
"For getting out in front of a problem before it happens, it's absolutely superb."
"The remarkable feature of Geneos is the dashboard. Geneos' flexible dashboard sets it apart from other monitoring tools. Other solutions have limitations in their dashboard design and can't be customized as much. The Geneos dashboard allows unlimited creativity."
"We have been able to monitor the repeated critical alerts and work on producing a more stable environment for our customers."
"The NetProbe carries over 100 samplers which are capable of monitoring hardware, OS, and the application layer."
"The confidence of our users has greatly improved because of our ability to react much faster."
"Switching over to using a Geneos dashboard, we completely eliminated all manual effort and it was a huge time saver."
"For my application, Geneos is detecting and helping us avoid outages at least once a day."
"The customer service and support are helpful and responsive."
"AppDynamics' most valuable features are the response time of the business transaction modules, the ability to monitor multiple services, and testing and developing environments."
"The solution helps us provide a better user experience to our customers."
"The time saved is significant as we have gone from four hours to one hour, which means we are saving a lot of time."
"With the benefits of pinpointing the issue quickly, we can get either our servers or our application up and running better."
"We have seen application availability increase, and there is a twenty-five percent reduction of the application downtime."
"Now, it's a matter of minutes and a couple of people to isolate, do a root-cause analysis and quickly solve the problem."
"The most valuable feature in AppDynamics is the identifying of the slow responses. Additionally, it is easy to use."

Cons

"Currently the dashboard does not have the capability of providing different status levels, and this needs to be updated."
"It needs to be easier to configure, especially with the JMX plugins."
"At the moment Geneos is excellent and handling real time monitoring, however not great at doing historical reporting."
"Data visualization – real time and historical – is a weakness."
"For the last year or two, I've been asking the vendor about the mobile app. This is something that probably everyone asks when they see the tool and they see how powerful it is. If there is any mobile app for this or if there is any way this tool can be more easily accessible other than having a big client installed, it would be great. I know you can build dashboards, et cetera, but there is no quick and easy way. I should be able to download an app, log in, and see my status. That will put this product above everything else out there. I believe it's on their roadmap."
"Mobile phone integration is probably not as rich as it could be."
"The deployment method for upgrading is a bit tricky. It takes a little bit of manual effort. If that could be a bit more automated, it would help us a lot."
"One thing that could be improved in terms of rapid scaling would be more ability to clone aspects of an implementation. It seems like there are opportunities in this area, where we have repetitive tasks to do when it comes to implementing things on new servers or on new gateways. It would be great if there was an easy way to clone something that had already been done."
"Scalability-wise, I think it's a little limited on an enterprise-wide scale."
"Stability-wise, we experienced some performance issues when upgrading from 4.4 to 4.5."
"For me, the single largest area with room for improvement that I've been requesting the AppDynamics team to deliver for us is APM support for Ruby on Rails and for HHPM."
"I did not find it easy to understand at first. It just looked like this sea of information, and I couldn’t see the logical breakdown of things, and the names for things didn’t immediately help me figure out what they were really for – what it could help me see and do."
"The GUI can be overwhelming at first to a novice Dev or Ops support person, and the possible root causes of an issue do not bubble up to the first screen you see."
"AppDynamics Database Monitoring would be improved with more support for microservices architecture."
"The UI is clumsy and slow."
"The one thing that I find it difficult in using AppDynamics is, for any new user, it's not easy for him or her to configure the transactions in AppDynamics because the UI is pretty complex. The configuration is pretty complex for a new, fresh user. They can make the UI simpler, that'll be very helpful for anyone to configure their website in AppDynamics."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The market tools are on par with this solution, but if the solution included more features, then it would be well within the range for the cost."
"It is expensive. They have to look at the model around when we move to cloud and how that's going to work. The licensing cost does pay off because of the improvements in support to our business."
"ITRS Geneos is not a cheap tool. It's a moderate price for the banking industry. The reason we are not able to add the ITRS monitoring tool for the non-banking industries, and non-finance industries, is that the pricing is too high."
"I can say it's not that cheap because the licensing is a little bit costly"
"Its price is reasonable. It isn't too expensive, and it isn't too cheap, but it also depends on a company's volume and negotiation."
"When I first came in, their pricing was very high. ITRS had a high expectation of what their price should be based on perceived value. I think they have been realizing, more recently, that there are other competitors, so their pricing is a lot better. Licensing for on-premise is okay, however I feel there is quite some work to be done for cloud and containers. We're still working with them to try and work out what that pricing should look like."
"Pricing and licensing is based on the requirements."
"You will get the best price if you get a single global deal."
"The tool is expensive."
"It's a very expensive product. Each of the licenses after this month for one server is around $9,000 or $10,000."
"AppDynamics is priced on the higher side."
"It would be better if there were more solutions incorporated into the base price. "
"We buy the platform's yearly subscription."
"The licensing cost is fairly high"
"I would like more flexible pricing: A pay-per-use model, rather than just a fixed-price model."
"You are required to purchase licenses whether you use it or not. It is not pay-as-you-use."

What is your experience regarding pricing and costs for AppDynamics?
I would rate the pricing an eight out of ten. The solution is highly expensive. Our company pays for the solution on a yearly basis, if we don't add new modules or features to the license, we need ...
