With the help of the solution, we can predict and prevent failures
Currently, the most valuable thing for an individual is a mobile device. Since that is where people are currently tracking everything, we have multiple applications or apps that are for various products. I would like ITRS Geneos to develop an app, where instead of going to specific login terminals or logging into laptops or desktops to check alerts, we can have visibility in the app itself. Using the ITRS Geneos app, we could see the error message during our travels or wherever we are. I would like to see the capacity of messages for forecasting increased. Since the NSE is the number one derivative stock exchange in the work for three consecutive years, the number of messages is important. We use the capacity planner in ITRS to forecast our data needs for the next two months. The planner is important because the volume of data we produce is becoming more and more volatile compared to when we first started using ITRS Geneos in 2014.

Real-time monitoring has improved our banking API performance and supports detailed business transaction analysis
The real-time monitoring is what we can see for anything that is needed in terms of CPU, memory, or the connections or the sessions related. It's real-time monitoring of performance of each of the components, which is what we need and use all the time. It's highly effective, I would say. Infrastructure visibility, transaction monitoring, to check the actual user experience in terms of the response time, MRT and all those things. We do the component monitoring like the API performance and the connections and all those things, but we also do the business process monitoring and business transaction monitoring.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Geneos enables customized aggregate views and alerts for both related and disparate components, and this flexibility and insight facilitates proactive and prompt causation analysis so you can easily see everything at once and know why there is an issue within seconds rather than spend precious time trying to find out."
"The built-in plug-ins allow administrators to easily configure monitoring components for market data systems such as Thomson Reuters Enterprise Platform and SRLabs Wombat (formerly NYSE)."
"Real-time log monitoring with desktop alerts is valuable as it tells us immediately when there is an issue."
"Ability to monitor logs for potential issues to prevent app outages before problems get a chance to arise. That's invaluable for our teams in a fast-paced trading environment."
"We use Geneos to monitor our own development and production environments, and due to its automation capabilities we are able to automatically restart failed processes and alert our developers to issues in our applications and infrastructure without traditional eyes on glass monitoring."
"Geneos automatically sends email notifications when any batch job fails, the database is down or the website is down; it is automatically monitoring everything and reduces manual effort."
"Switching over to using a Geneos dashboard, we completely eliminated all manual effort and it was a huge time saver."
"The 'start of day' (SOD) and 'end of day' (EOD) checks were automated by using this tool, thus reducing the amount of manual work needed by almost two hours per day."
"What I like best about AppDynamics is that it's functional, particularly in APM in Java and .NET."
"We were previously using Dynatrace, then we shifted to AppDynamics because it was more convenient."
"The most valuable features of Splunk AppDynamics that I have found so far include it being a deep-in monitoring solution for applications such as Java and databases, where you can dig into the log information and performance information that is within the application, and for a very easy setup, you have all the information that you need."
"AppDynamics' most valuable feature is Business iQ, which is based on analytics."
"We've seen tasks the end users have to do on a daily basis that used to take 30-60 seconds been improved to take under two seconds, based on reports and recommendations we have written based on AppDynamics."
"It gives us good insight into our end-to-end business transactions."
"Setting up the monitoring agents was straightforward."
"The features related to the application performance in AppDynamics Database Monitoring are the most valuable."

Cons

"It needs to be easier to configure, especially with the JMX plugins."
"Currently, it is difficult to monitor secure websites using SSL or with SSO enabled."
"For the solution to stay relevant in the cloud-based monitoring environment Geneos needs more plug-ins with more features. Instead of offering clients workarounds, the solution should have a cloud-based out-of-the-box version."
"Its web monitoring capability is very hard to use especially if there is authentication involved."
"t needs to have better middleware integration for things such as application and Microsft SQL servers."
"Not a ten because when the Gateway was very overloaded it was very hard to monitor the alerts, especially for the product services."
"There is a part of the rules for monitoring alerts. I want to understand more about how to choose the samples and the requirements for the rules. That is the part that I want to understand better and get better training for."
"One thing that could be improved in terms of rapid scaling would be more ability to clone aspects of an implementation. It seems like there are opportunities in this area, where we have repetitive tasks to do when it comes to implementing things on new servers or on new gateways. It would be great if there was an easy way to clone something that had already been done."
"By default, AppDynamics tends to only capture a lot of the high-level stuff, and you can actually go in and manually configure a lot of the lower level stuff manually."
"It needs strengthening in the database tiers."
"Charting is cumbersome; inability to do decimal fraction arithmetic in expressions (for alerts), so everything has to be done in % rather than as natural fractions."
"Just that we've run out of agents in our license :P :("
"They could align the product strategy to evolve as a complete solution."
"The pricing falls within the mid-range category."
"I think I would like to see a better way to deploy and upgrade the machine agents that we use. Currently, we have to use SCCM, and that might just be our environment with the customer."
"The user experience is quite confusing. There are too many different development stages."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The market tools are on par with this solution, but if the solution included more features, then it would be well within the range for the cost."
"Given our spend and the amount of service we have in it, the pricing is quite reasonable."
"You will get the best price if you get a single global deal."
"Based on feedback from colleagues and friends working in the financial sector, Geneos is relatively costly. Many companies have been switching from Geneos to Dynatrace, Sysdig, or other monitoring tools in the past two years because of the price."
"It is expensive. They have to look at the model around when we move to cloud and how that's going to work. The licensing cost does pay off because of the improvements in support to our business."
"Pricing is the touchy subject, even here. Upper management always wants us to find a cheaper solution. But we have so much integrated with ITRS... It's expensive, but it does its job very well. And you set it and go."
"The pricing is fairly market-related. They have been very lenient because we have been working with them for so long. An example is that we're currently migrating some of our services to AWS, and they've given us a grace period for some of the things to help with the migration and not to grow additional costs while we are migrating, but it's still on par with the market."
"The licensing cost may seem expensive upfront. However, the service is outstanding, the tool does things that no other tools can do, and the customizability more than makes up for the cost of licensing."
"The tool is expensive."
"It could be a bit lower, but looking at the scalability, functionality, and other things, you can understand why AppDynamics is so expensive as compared to some of the cheaper products that don't have that full single pane of glass they've got. Dynatrace has got three different elements that you need to log into just to get a full view, which is not so good, and because of that, it is a bit cheaper."
"AppDynamics is priced on the higher side."
"This price of this product is expensive."
"The pricing is very competitive."
"You are required to purchase licenses whether you use it or not. It is not pay-as-you-use."
"The pricing needs to come down."
"I would say the solution is affordable because it is widely used across financial service sectors."
