High-speed backup and strong deduplication have supported secure long-term data protection
In my opinion, what can be improved about Veritas NetBackup Appliance includes licensing. A mixed licensing model would be more helpful, such as terabytes plus virtual machines, terabytes plus instances, or number of instances. I believe this could work and create a new competitive licensing model against other products. Additionally, embedding Enterprise Vault or some of its features in the backup software would enable better competition with Commvault, which offers backup and archiving from the same console. For the next release of Veritas NetBackup Appliance, I would like to see improvements in licensing, increased deduplication ratio, and enhanced high availability. Having high availability for Veritas NetBackup Appliance without requiring virtual storage like Cohesity would be important. Improving the overall high availability of Veritas NetBackup Appliance would be beneficial.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature for me is the policy management capabilities"
"The flexible ways you can get to the data and the options that it gives you for backing up your valuable data are what make its offsite storage so valuable."
"The most valuable feature involves VMware Instant Recovery, which allows one to do restoration within seconds."
"The Veritas NetBackup Appliance is convenient because it’s a portable device and doesn’t require a lot of additional hardware or licenses like VPN solutions."
"The intelligent policies feature is used in order to protect the VMware infrastructure. One of the things that makes a big difference for our company is the usage of these intelligence policies. The system automatically provides extra protection for any VMware server application or service. From a backup administrator's point of view, this is what we call peace of mind. It reduces the workload and therefore reduces resources needed from the company."
"The solution is the best for me, as it combines two solutions for use of our backup environment."
"The reporting is very good compared to other tools."
"The standout feature is its connectivity and robust support. They are easily easy to get hold of, making it convenient for us."
"I like the solution, it works well, the integration to the VMware environment is good, and the documentation is helpful and easy to follow."
"The most significant benefit has been the time to restore."

Cons

"Basically, the only thing I do not like about it, it was keyed off Lotus Notes."
"I would like to see more integration with different platforms."
"The product must improve its recovery features."
"Most of the organizations I see are going to the cloud and they escape the physical architecture to minimize investment in their local data center as much as possible."
"This solution has to have better integration with the cloud, as well as with other solutions such as Business Intelligence products."
"I would like the ability to recover a single folder within the backup of a virtual machine."
"They could improve the interface a bit. It's not as good as it could be."
"It is not easy because I have worked a lot on the tool, and in case it gets corrupted at any point, it is not easy to restore the data without losing information is not easy."
"It could be better integrated with other platforms."
"The price is slightly expensive for small and medium enterprises. If they can review the prices, we feel it would be beneficial, especially for the African market."
