Excellent reporting server that is compatible with MySQL
We ran into some quirks that Infobright had. We interacted with Infobright's support and were able to resolve them. There still are issues with data replication - Infobright is currently for one server (unless you buy the Infobright appliance). This would mean that redundancy is something you need to implement yourself.

Reliable backups and high-capacity data management have transformed large-scale census projects
When it comes to how Oracle Database can be improved, for me it is all about training and development in terms of gamification, creating awareness, and spreading the word to aspiring database administrators and database developers. As I have used it in the past and in recent times, many people are trying to get into IT, so the opportunity exists. Oracle has the market opportunity to take this time to spread its offerings and ensure that many aspiring professionals are aware of its services and products. From my perspective, there is not much to add regarding the needed improvements for the interface and the documentation. I give it a nine because I think Oracle sometimes can make things complicated. You have many services, many products, and many tools for different use cases. So it is difficult for someone who is only used to a particular product, such as Oracle Database, to understand all the other products and services that it provides. Probably streamlining it and making it available with categorized use cases for specific job roles would help. If you are a database developer, these are the tools that you need to be familiar with in Oracle's suite of products, and if you are a database administrator, these are the tools. Categorizing them based on the job role or function of people who are accessing these products and providing training capabilities on how to use them and how these products interchange and talk to each other would be very important because that is one of the things I struggled with when I started my journey as an Oracle Database administrator. Having that visibility of all the software products and providing free training and documentation on how you can improve and which products are best suited for integration to your product from Oracle would go a long way to help organizations and professionals. Regarding Oracle Database's AI capabilities, I am very keen on its governance and security. I think more work needs to be done on the security and ensuring that the database for a large number of people is watertight. AI is here to stay; however, governance and more stress testing of the AI capabilities needs to be done to ensure there is no breach of data. I would rate it currently at 6 over 10 and there is room for improvement. As long as there are government policies and Oracle policies that can mitigate any breaches of data and serious security issues, releasing people's records over the internet, there is always room for improvement in that regard.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Infobright gave us the ability to avoid significant changes in our data structure and just use Infobright like BigDataMySql."
"It has very amazing smart grid query feature for very fast aggregate queries across millions of rows"
"Infobright allowed us to reduce the number of moving parts and complexity that we had while providing good performance to produce our reports."
"We now have multiple times faster queries in comparison to MS SQL."
"The high compression and the relatively fast load for a free product."
"A valuable feature was the use of a columnar database for large, ever-growing, big datasets."
"ICE helped us improve the speed for the “group-by” query by 10x."
"The performance of ad hoc aggregation queries is superior to any RDBMS that I have used and I have used them all."
"Oracle Database is really good for a distributed system and the scalability is really good."
"The stability has been good so far. It's reliable."
"Compared to other databases, Oracle Database is very simple to manage in terms of the database itself."
"It's easy to use, it's robust, and it offers good security that we can count on."
"We're satisfied with the solution."
"The solution is a reliable database."
"In my opinion, it's one of the strongest databases available in the world."
"I like the design of the database because it works well, and I also like the stability of the solution."

Cons

"On the contrary, we have switched back to the MS SSAS Tabular Model, because of pricing policy."
"There still are issues with data replication - Infobright is currently for one server (unless you buy the Infobright appliance)."
"Only the data from the columns that reached 2GB will actually decrease. Other columns below 2GB in size do not leave the disk."
"There was no scalability at all. Infobright didn't permit any changes in tables."
"MPP, distributed processing!!! And better integration with Hadoop."
"After all the re-work to our product to remove as much reliance on Infobright, and the extra hardware costs we had to absorb, there was definitely a negative return on investment."
"When running a complex subquery, the system hangs without giving the user any response."
"We didn’t purchase the Enterprise Edition because it was too expensive for a product that wasn’t going to replace our main DWH database (Oracle), but was, somehow, only an addition for it."
"It's so expensive, particularly Enterprise Edition, and that would be my number one gripe. It's very, very expensive."
"The tool is costly, and migration is hard. We need tools like Database Migration Assistant for Oracle to migrate data between databases. Sometimes, older versions of Oracle are no longer supported, making the transition even more difficult."
"The high availability features are a little complex to set up and manage."
"The price of Oracle Database is too expensive and especially for individual environments."
"The pricing is the one sticking point for the solution because it is very expensive."
"I'm not crazy about their new version plan that they've just started."
"I would like to see lower costs. It has expensive annual maintenance."
"It's a very expensive solution."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Our pricing was based on server instances and it was actually very cheap compared to Oracle. I guess you get what you pay for."
"It is very expensive. Oracle licenses are expensive."
"We have a subscription."
"The licensing is on a monthly basis. Improvement in pricing would be nice."
"It would be a benefit if there were different pricing levels to help different size businesses."
"The product is costly."
"The platform is highly-priced."
"Oracle Database could make the documentation better around licensing. The way you have to access software from Oracle is difficult. You have to go through the licensing lawyer to understand what your reach is when you subscribe to one unit. I wish the documents were easier to understand for everyone. This is a problem I have always grappled with and it's not changed. Having clarity is even more important now that I'm thinking of having a hybrid setup for the database in the cloud for high availability."
"Licensing is on a yearly basis."
