Time series data has been managed efficiently for IoT sensors but reporting still needs improvement
How InfluxDB can be improved is relevant since for Energy Box, we face certain issues. We have customers worldwide, including the United States, United Kingdom, and Europe, but when we expanded to China two years ago, they indicated that they do not support the cloud version there. Our application is built on the cloud, which required us to create a separate application for Azure China, which was painful for us. The second issue involves frequent version changes. For example, we started with version one, transitioned to version two, and I heard they are considering InfluxDB version three, reverting to earlier practices. InfluxDB should improve without completely changing its approach. Now we have to redo our work for InfluxDB version three. Regarding needed improvements, the documentation is sufficient, but pricing presents a challenge. InfluxDB has standard pricing, which is acceptable for large companies. However, for startups in our position, they should provide special discounts so everyone can utilize it. The pricing should adapt as companies grow, which is a reasonable expectation.

Easy to set up with good documentation and helpful support
I'm using it for a customer The packet flow switch is the most valuable aspect of the solution.  It's an easy product to set up. We can scale the solution if we need to. It's stable.  The documentation is well-written and quite useful. It's compatible with other products.  Under the pocket flow…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"InfluxDB's best feature is that it's a cloud offering. Other good features include its time-series DB, fast time-bulk queries, and window operations."
"While I would rate InfluxDB a ten on a scale of one to ten, users should be thoughtful about matching the engine to their specific needs."
"It helps me maintain my solution easily because it is very reliable, so we didn't face any performance issues or crashes regarding our queries; we can get the results very fast."
"InfluxDB reduced my time to show data without any interruption, also reducing the number of people needed to manage the project; it is very good to have InfluxDB in my project."
"The platform operates very quickly. It is easy to configure, connect, and query and integrates seamlessly with Grafana."
"InfluxDB has played a key role in enhancing system reliability and supporting our goal of delivering a seamless, high-quality product."
"Overall, InfluxDB delivered excellent performance, stability, and simplicity for telemetry-driven use cases."
"InfluxDB has positively impacted Energy Box by being the best choice for our needs."
"This solution has saved us hours (three to four) per problem when troubleshooting."
"The solution has helped to increase application and network uptime, reduced our mean time to repair significantly for application and network issues, and cut our overall troubleshooting time from an hour down to five minutes."
"We use it for monitoring whenever we update a new circuit or site."
"The technical support is really good. They will go above and beyond, if you are running into a problem. You can go to a sales engineer, who will engage technical support to help you out."
"It has cut our group's troubleshooting time down significantly, e.g., depending on the issue, what would normally take maybe a couple of hours will now take minutes."
"Because we are doing proactive monitoring instead of reactive, the end users don't even see that there is something wrong."
"If you are looking for a good application monitoring and packet analysis tool, you can strategically use NETSCOUT to get it done."
"An issue that used to take days is now fixed within minutes to an hour."

Cons

"The solution's UI can be more user-friendly."
"The interface of InfluxDB is so complex and should be made easier for non-technical people."
"Customer support is fair enough but can be improved."
"The error logging capability can be improved because the logs are not very informative."
"I chose an 8 out of 10 because there is room for improvement, such as regarding backups and enhanced security through other types of authentication or encrypted data in TLS."
"InfluxDB can be improved in several ways. The Flux query language needs to be learned, but if there were something similar to SQL or previous options, it would be much easier for users without imposing a learning curve."
"I haven't seen a return on investment; unfortunately, I cannot share relevant metrics such as time saved, fewer employees needed, or money saved."
"If it gets a little bit more into the metric side, then it would really be great, similar to Prometheus."
"There is a timeout feature that we have been asking for awhile."
"Only problems that we have had are fiber issues going into the TAPs or vSTREAMs, which are usually local site issues."
"I'd like them to make the product more user-friendly."
"The stability depends on who is using the tool, because you only can get as much out of the tool as you put into it. There are a lot of patches for this particular environment, so you have to keep on them. If you lose track of them, then the product is not useful anymore."
"The single pane of glass feed still needs work."
"I would like to see an improved level of stitching between IPs."
"We don't use the single pane of glass view, even though we own it."
"Sometimes, we can't access it."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"InfluxDB is open-source, but there are additional costs for scaling."
"We are using the open-source version of InfluxDB."
"The tool is an open-source product."
"This product could be cheaper."
"To capture more with the solution that we bought, you have to buy another InfiniStreamNG, and there are only four ports in the back."
"It can be scalable. It just costs too much. With a company as big as ours, it gets too expensive to accommodate every single site."
"I would like it to be more scalable with less spend."
"The price is a little high."
"The scalability is good, but it comes at a cost. E.g., if you need 100 InfiniStream because you are sending gigs or terabytes of data to one InfiniStream, then you will have to purchase another InfiniStream, which are not cheap."
