There were issues with performing upgrades, however, we can now plan better for the future.
The insight on availability trends (CPU, Swap & IO) function is valuable We can now plan better for the future as a result of more insights about our server farm. Service monitoring Host vs virtual instance I've used if for over two years. There were none, but there were issues with…

Central monitoring has improved outage alerts and now needs smarter detection and modern dashboards
Regarding the automated network topology and mapping feature in SolarWinds NPM, I am not satisfied with it. For static monitoring, it is acceptable. However, if it is possible, I would need a feature in SolarWinds in the future for some kind of malfunctioning detection, such as malware attacks or that type of environment. We did not have any facility to detect that in SolarWinds. I think it would be better to incorporate those types of features. Regarding customization options in SolarWinds, the ability to customize the dashboard has room for improvement. The dashboard is quite old, and we need some improvement in it. Nowadays, we have multiple tools with AI-based monitoring and web-based dashboards. SolarWinds also has a web-based dashboard, but I think there is scope for improvement in the UI. There may be other areas I would like to improve in SolarWinds NPM.

Pros

"If you need to have more insight about your data center, Copperegg is the way to go."
"We were in the need of a fast-to-deploy solution for the external monitoring of our servers, and Copperegg gave us all the needed features plus the internal and custom metrics."
"The abnormal traffic notifications are good. Most of them are remote, and it is very good for notifications and monitoring for the traffic."
"What I like about SolarWinds is the application health monitoring system, which is a very good system that I recommend to big companies in the pharmaceutical or the banking industries with large networks and very critical servers."
"The initial setup was straightforward. We deployed the solution from new and completed the upgrades."
"From web interfaces to custom monitors and alarms, this product has a high level of flexibility that can be molded to suit your business needs, regardless of the size of your organization."
"With SolarWinds, it’s easy to monitor everything and, with a little setup, everyone can help out."
"The nice thing about SolarWinds is that it's kind of all-in-one. I can manage the status of my networking devices, whether they are up or down, I can see how much traffic is going across an interface, and I can run a report that tells me exactly what that traffic is."
"Simplicity in use, in administration and the ability to present anything that management or the business wants is a killer to other products."
"We moved from nGenius to Orion NPM about 3 years ago and are very happy with the performance, features, and pricing, the company is very pro-active, as in adding additional features and being responsive to customer requests."

Cons

"Yes, some days the service was down and we did not find an accurate response from the company."
"There were none, but there were issues with performing upgrades."
"There were some version releases that had stability issues but the support team was very good at letting us know what we needed to do to fix the issues."
"Regarding the automated network topology and mapping feature in SolarWinds NPM, I am not satisfied with it."
"My team has had a lot of issues with support."
"SolarWinds NPM offers limited customization options. Users and developers may find restrictions in modifying or customizing the dashboard and adjusting monitoring features such as polling intervals or SLAs for different nodes."
"Real-time analytics is the major weakness of the SolarWinds NPM platform today."
"The SolarWinds notification and alerting configuration could be simplified as it would be easier to find if it was within the NPM web application instead of in a separate client application."
"Some features are missing (which will be in any product out there) but there is a community that either provides workarounds or the ability to request the improvement."
"The cost for monitoring interfaces is ridiculous."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"There are a lot of sub-products and it just continued to increase the price."
"We have a multi-year license for the use of this solution. There are additional costs for recourses in the environment."
"We pay for SolarWinds NPM yearly. We buy it and then we renew it, but it's not subscription-based. I don't remember the value exactly, because it's my manager who manages pricing, but we pay $60,000 per year for all the solutions. Pricing will also depend on the number of devices. We have a lot of devices."
"Some solutions are open source and free."
"There can be fees in addition to the licensing fees if you add on."
"The solution can become very expensive and commercially not viable in countries, such as India."

Nagios vs. Zabbix vs. PRTG vs. Spiceworks vs. Solarwinds Network Performance Monitor
I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want…
