Combines network, storage, and compute functions in one place
I want the product to be used more efficiently and for our system to connect easily with cloud services like AWS, Oracle, and IBM. We can also improve by adding advanced features like snapshots, replication, and encryption, allowing for more growth. Introducing features such as data duplication, data analytics, and AI-driven insights will improve its deployments. I've noticed a slight impact on performance, especially with high-end computing virtual machines for SAP HANA. While I don't have concrete data to support this observation, customers have raised concerns about discrepancies in performance.

Managing mixed RAID workloads has improved data protection and delivers strong performance
VMware vSAN can be improved in certain areas. In cases involving our large data stores with large VMs, we experience some latency, not during normal operation, but during database backup operations. We observed latency due to buffer issues from the top-of-the-rack switches. These issues are mostly network-related because all storage data traffic travels through the network. I have recently used Nutanix, and I observed that Nutanix provides better performance than VMware vSAN due to its data locality features. VMware vSAN is now providing data locality, but we did not use that option. If VMware vSAN provides additional features in the next release, such as the VM balancing feature called DRS on the cluster that VMware previously had, it would be beneficial. With DRS, VMs can move easily from one node to another within the same cluster. Nutanix does not provide that flexibility. When placing a VM on a cluster in Nutanix, the placement uses a balancing component. After that, the VM remains on the same host. If any contention occurs on the CPU or memory side, the VM stays in place until contention happens. If issues occur, the VM migrates to another host while transferring all objects to the same host. This is how their data locality is maintained. When a VM moves to any host, it moves with all VM objects. VMware vSAN does not currently offer this option. If a VM moves to another host, it accesses the disk object through the network, which increases latency. VMware vSAN now offers an option to select data locality, but it does not function like Nutanix. This is why some latency remains. If VMware vSAN can improve this feature, it would be very helpful and VMware would regain its top position.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature of Huawei FusionCube Hyper-Converged Infrastructure is the relocating of resources."
"The price of Huawei FusionCube Hyper-Converged Infrastructure is very good."
"The solution is stable and everything is taken care of through the Huawei support center, as they ensure everything is running smoothly."
"The best thing about the solution is that it combines network, storage, and compute functions in one place. Unlike the traditional three-tier setup, you don't need to buy separate devices for each part. This makes it much easier to control and manage everything in one go without switching between different places for different tasks."
"The product is very reliable. We haven't had any major issues with the product since we bought it."
"The product is very reliable, with a lot of redundancy and highly available pulses, and we haven't had any major issues with it since we bought it."
"The pricing of the solution is excellent; it's one of the main reasons a customer chooses Huawei, and it's much, much better than VMware."
"The pricing of the solution is excellent. It's one of the main reasons a customer chooses Huawei. It's much, much better than VMware."
"The ability to have a disaster recovery option for our end-users by being able to use VDI and the vSANs, and the ability to do replication across multiple data centers, are valuable to us."
"VMware has been around for a long time and is doing a decent job at catching up with the latest technologies, i.e. bringing in Kubernetes and containerization, and overall, this is a great tool for virtualization."
"The product is highly scalable and significantly supports our organization's needs."
"VMware vSAN has greatly reduced refresh spending."
"It's easy to scale, it's easy to predict IOPS needs, you can design for low latency using all-flash, and for setting up new clusters for VDI quickly, it's nice because you don't have to wait on an order for a storage vendor to ship you a system and help you configure it, you do it all yourself."
"The ROI data on vSAN: I would definitely say it's my staff cutting their time by something like 90 percent."
"The most valuable feature is that it is software-defined storage. Also, being able to do maintenance on the fly is a real benefit: migrating off, updating, and then moving the guest back on to the nodes."
"The feature that I have found most valuable is that it is easy to deploy, easy to configure with vCenter and our other solutions, and easy to create and delete virtual servers as well as to create load balancing and clustering."

Cons

"I want the product to be used more efficiently and for our system to connect easily with cloud services like AWS, Oracle, and IBM. We can also improve by adding advanced features like snapshots, replication, and encryption, allowing for more growth. Introducing features such as data duplication, data analytics, and AI-driven insights will improve its deployments."
"The solution currently does not have cloud integration."
"It would be helpful if the solution was able to collaborate or integrate with other well-known monitoring tools."
"t would be helpful if the solution was able to collaborate or integrate with other well-known monitoring tools. Right now, you have to work hard to get it configured. It would be a good selling point for them if they could open up their solution to more integrations."
"The stability is poor as compared to VMware."
"The product is not scalable. It's a fixed item, so it has limitations."
"Huawei FusionCube Hyper-Converged Infrastructure could improve the security of the solution. Additionally, there could be more information provided for the solution and the interface could be more user-friendly."
"Technical support needs improvement. There's a lot of language barriers."
"We have encountered some scalability issues and got a couple of performance tickets."
"There is a lot that VMware could improve from a marketing perspective. The cloud is still new for many people, so extending storage should be effortless."
"VMware is not a cost effective solution, especially if you have a Microsoft shop."
"The license price is too expensive compared to other market actors."
"This solution is not great for large file shares/object/rich media repository."
"Hardware load balancing is available on the enterprise version of the solution, however, it's extremely expensive and therefore out of our budget."
"They can improve the manageability of the solution to make it more simple. It is not that complicated, but it will be good if they can make it more simple."
"Hackers are able to manage to leak information or data from the product using some corrupt files, making it an area of major concern where improvements are required."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I rate Huawei FusionCube Hyper-Converged Infrastructure's pricing a six out of ten."
"The price of Huawei FusionCube Hyper-Converged Infrastructure is very good. There is a perpetual license for the solution, there are not any additional costs for the hardware. We have a license in case there is any new functionality that is required."
"Its reasonable, compare with other storage vendors"
"We are using the VMware vSAN ROBO which allows us to have a maximum of 25 virtual machines. The approximate cost is €10,000 for a perpetual license."
"ROI from an administrative perspective is clearly much better because I only have to deal with one user interface."
"The price of VMware vSAN is expensive and there is an annual license required."
"With vSAN, we didn't find the market that competitive."
"The price of vSAN could be lower."
"The only problem I have with VMware is the price. It is a good product, but it is expensive."
"This is a cost-effective product. It's a bit cheaper than the other solutions."
