Near-zero downtime has protected critical workloads and now simplifies hybrid cloud recovery
The best features of HPE Zerto Software are mainly very sophisticated and relevant to the current market. The data protection CDP part has real-time replication, unlike other solutions that have snapshot backups. We can set it up hourly, making it ideal for use with workloads. Another attraction is the near-zero RTO, with automated failover within minutes and one-click failover and failback. Currently, we are using a hybrid cloud solution, and HPE Zerto Software supports multi-cloud environments, making it easy to migrate between on-premises and cloud. Regarding the impact of HPE Zerto Software on our RTOs, we have near-zero RTO, meaning the system must be back online within thirty minutes if we measure the time. It is very quick to recover services. With HPE Zerto Software's near-synchronous replication, we have some CDP protection, so we typically write interceptions along with some asynchronous replication. There is almost real-time replication available.

Comprehensive data protection supports diverse IT environments
Vinchin Backup & Recovery supports most mainstream private cloud platforms, including VMware, Nutanix, and Microsoft Hyper-V, as well as many Chinese-based products. It supports cross-platform backup and recovery, allowing customers to back up from one platform and recover to another. The user interface is very user-friendly, making it easy for customers to understand and use. In addition to virtual machine backups, the platform supports physical server backups, file backups, and database backups. This comprehensive support allows customers to back up most IT resources, including the public cloud, within one platform.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I would rate Zerto a ten out of ten."
"We did the PoC against five other products, and no one could touch Zerto on the technical side of it, at all, and that's besides the ease of use."
"The biggest benefit is the application-consistent disaster recovery functionality."
"We have been able to close three data centers so far."
"Zerto is easy to use and the interface is very intuitive."
"t's reduced our disaster recovery testing by 50%."
"We have had multiple live disaster recovery events where Zerto saved us a lot of downtime."
"The features I find most beneficial about Zerto include continuous data protection, easy configuration, and simplified management with a user-friendly interface."
"Vinchin Backup & Recovery supports most mainstream private cloud platforms, including VMware, Nutanix, and Microsoft Hyper-V, as well as many Chinese-based products."
"The user interface is very user-friendly, making it easy for customers to understand and use."

Cons

"The setup process is time-consuming."
"Zerto's connectivity with automation platforms could be improved. For example, vCenter can use a VMware-developed tool called Site Recovery Manager. That can be integrated with automation platforms such as Terraform, Ansible, Chef, or Puppet, to perform automated, self-sufficient recoveries to essentially avoid any downtime. To my knowledge, Zerto does not have integration with those platforms."
"The main challenge that I face with this solution is the price."
"Customer support has always responded well when we have a problem, although that has gotten a little bit less since HPE purchased it."
"It would be good if we could store a snapshot of the images coming through so that we can always go back and have a vision history."
"I wouldn't mind seeing Zerto sold at a cheaper price point, although the cost is comparable to VMware SRM."
"Their support can be faster."
"From a reliability perspective, the product is around seven. It's less reliable than others, for example."
"The deduplication and compression ratio could be improved to save more space for customers."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"One of Zerto's main disadvantages is its pricing structure, which involves significant upfront costs and limited options for startups with minimal initial funding."
"It was pretty appropriate. It was not too cheap, not too expensive. It was just about right."
"I think the cost is reasonable for VM licensing. It's not outside the scope of an enterprise product."
"The pricing seems really good. We're an enterprise customer, so we get all the bells and whistles."
"Zerto is a little bit on the higher side in terms of pricing. It would be better if they had a pay-as-you-go package."
"I wish it were cheaper, but I would purchase it again at the same price."
"My impression is that Zerto is more expensive than other solutions, although I don't have exact numbers."
"Zerto is pretty reasonable. I haven't checked to see how much Rubrik is going to quote us for their solution. At least for us, the price doesn't play a big factor in the decision-making because it is a pretty small deployment for our use case."
