Unified security and sd-wan have improved uptime and cut wan costs for multi-site branches
Users report stability issues in certain versions, which requires regular updates. Real-world attacks have also highlighted the need for urgent patching of vulnerabilities.Fortinet FortiGate, while a powerful and feature-rich web firewall, could improve in areas like firmware stability, documentation, and ease of use. The learning curve can be steep for some users. For beginners, support quality can vary, and frequent updates with occasional vulnerabilities call for careful patch management. However, once Fortinet FortiGate is configured, it remains highly reliable and efficient. Customer support needs improvement, as I find it very slow, with reports from other users reflecting that customer support is inadequate.

Is stable and has a user-friendly dashboard and a good interface
We installed Hillstone T-Series after a ransomware attack. The dashboard and user interface are very good We cannot secure a specific IP class with this firewall. Another loophole with Hillstone T-Series is that when we connect through WiFi and turn our hot spot on, all who connect through the…

Automated breach prevention has protected critical workloads and keeps external attacks blocked
I am familiar with SonicWall TZ. I have done a POC of TZ but I have not worked extensively with it. I have worked with the 2600 firewall and then the 3600. These are the models which we have worked with.SonicWall NSa was an on-premises solution. The two firewalls which were in production, in the data center and on the LAN side, were both on-premises solutions. We had a pre-decided budget under which we would purchase the firewall. All parameters including security, high availability, and budget concerns were covered with SonicWall NSa being implemented at that time. SonicWall NSa is a user-friendly product that is easy to configure, and it is easy for network personnel and firewall administrators to work with. Even the L1 team captured and learned this firewall effectively, helping us resolve all parameters related to high availability firewalls within budget-friendly costs. I rate this review a nine out of ten.

"The solution effectively controls browsing traffic."
"This version is stable. I don't have any issues with this solution, in our environment, it works well."
"The best features of Fortinet FortiGate include good functionality, though the licensing cost is a bit higher; their response time and throughput are very good advantages."
"The most valuable feature is the deep inspection for traffic, which is capable of identifying zero-day attacks."
"The price of Fortinet FortiGate is better than Cisco, Check Point, and Palo Alto."
"The most valuable features of Fortinet FortiGate are the ease of use and there are several operating systems that can include the hardware capacities."
"The security features are about the best that I've seen anywhere."
"The only firewall able to monitor traffic from a CCTV network. Can detect unauthorized devices plugged into the network, which standard firewalls can't do."
"Hillstone supports IOT setup and detecting intrusions from IOT or CCTV connectivity, and with this solution, we can also detect unauthorized devices plugged into the CCTV network and sound the alarm to the administrator."
"It has been stable so far."
"We installed Hillstone T-Series after a ransomware attack. The dashboard and user interface are very good."
"We found some limitations with Fortinet FortiGate, and we are satisfied with Hillstone T-Series right now."
"Our primary use case for SonicWall NSa is as a public firewall, as an interface between our private network and the public network."
"The antivirus and items of that nature were quite helpful to have."
"The solution has many useful features, such as content management, user management, user filtering, and domain controller connectivity mapping."
"It is a very stable solution."
"SonicWall fulfills our requirements and it does it well."
"The most valuable feature I've found is VPN and web protection, particularly with navigation assessment. We use the application control feature to create rules controlling specific application navigation."
"I like that SonicWall NSa is a stable product. It's also a scalable product."
"It's very simple to use and the support is great."

Cons

"Customer support needs improvement. I have had to take the direct internal sources, such as sales contacts, and after that I rarely see support response."
"We can improve the UI readability when working with large configurations."
"They should improve the interface to make it more user-friendly."
"In most cases, the IPS engine uses too many resources, which makes Fortinet FortiGate devices unstable."
"I would like to have logs, monitoring, and reporting for a month without extra fees."
"Regarding challenges, customers initially faced issues like internet dropping, but after firmware upgrades, everything worked well."
"There should be more testing before releasing software since it can be a little buggy sometimes when new features come out after updates."
"They should do a better job in testing when they put out a new release because when a new software version is released, it is not always stable or does not always have all the previous features working correctly."
"They have a very good technical support team, but I think there are some communication issues due to language differences."
"Licensing is not cheap, but there are customers who will buy because they understand that this has a cost involved and they will cater their budget for that."
"Licensing is not cheap."
"They have a very good technical support team, but I think there are some communication issues due to language differences."
"Another loophole with Hillstone T-Series is that when we connect through WiFi and turn our hot spot on, all who connect through the hotspot get all the functions, and the security does not work."
"Sometimes, the GUI is extremely annoying and you need to implement external tools for better network monitoring."
"The features I would like to see improve are the dashboard and the UI."
"It only has a single power interface, which has limitations in terms of high availability."
"The content filter needs to be improved."
"Do not even consider NetExtender - probably one of the most horrific, nightmare grade Java-based VPN clients. We have but all given up trying to make it work reliably."
"SonicWall uses a cloud-based database for content filtering. If the NSA cannot contact that online DB, filtering is handled one of two ways."
"SonicWall NSa performs well, but sometimes, there are bugs, so I have to call their support when this happens, and I elaborate on the problem we're facing."
"SonicWall does not support DynDNS, yet this is an important feature for smaller companies that do not have a static IP address."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"This is not a cheap solution but it isn't expensive, either. It's a good solution for the right price."
"Compared to other firewall products, it's a little cheaper in terms of pricing."
"There is an annual license to use this solution. The prices have been increasing over the years."
"The Fortinet FortiGate security features cost approximately $1,500 a year. The firewall itself doesn't have a recurring cost. It's the security features on top of that that you pay for."
"The cost is too high... They have to focus on more features with less cost for the customer. If you see the market, where it's going, there are a lot of players offering more features for less cost."
"The pricing or licensing of Fortinet FortiGate is quite effective as it offers different bundles that aggregate most required features, while also allowing clients the option to select specific components alone."
"The pricing is justified. It's a little pricey, but what you pay for is what you get."
"The price of Fortinet FortiGate is reasonable."
"On a scale from one to ten, with one being low and ten being high price, I would rate the price of Hillstone T-Series at three. There are no additional costs other than renewal costs."
"We got a much cheaper price than that provided by Fortinet right now."
"SonicWall still is only a dollar or Euro per gigabit. This means, of the IPsec, it's the cheapest solution."
"The solution is expensive. Its pricing is based on the number of users."
"NSa is not expensive, not high. It's at a moderate or medium level."
"The pricing is lower and better than other products."
"A firewall doing anti-spam might be a low cost solution, but it is not your best strategy."
"The price is high. I would rate it four to five out of ten."
"If you want to connect more than five concurrent users by VPN then you have to pay an additional fee."
"Compared to Fortinet and Cisco, SonicWall NSa is a cheaper solution."
