Setup is straightforward from a business user standpoint but MAQL needs to be easier.
Cloud connect Report generator MAQL needs to be easier Better row-level security for end-users I've used it for nine months, mainly for implementation and delivery to customers. No issues encountered. No issues encountered. When the source is big and/or the source is Netsuite there are…

Reporting has improved with strong administration tools but performance and memory still need work
Compared to the new tools, MicroStrategy is still on the old mechanism, the attributes and metric creations that are still a bit vague compared to other tools. They can actually improve on the go, having derived metrics or derived attributes in MicroStrategy. If they have something like that for the attributes as well, it will be good. A pain point is MicroStrategy memory fluctuations that we couldn't actually read that much. If they can improve that performance, that would be great. MicroStrategy struggles a bit with large data volumes, but they are coming up with new ideas. They have moved to Intelligent Cubes, which can actually handle better data handling. They are coming up with good measures to handle big data.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It's a good product for your end to end BI needs when its all on the cloud."
"It provides a single point of reporting from many data sources."
"It helps to provide answers quickly for critical business questions."
"I love MicroStrategy as it has full depth BI functionality inside right from Admin to End Users scalability."
"It drives us away from Excel. For what it is for, it is good. You can't run a business on Excel."
"Performance is great, and the feedback from our field users is fantastic in terms of form and function, so it is meeting all of our expectations."
"This solution is the most scalable BI platform in the world."
"MicroStrategy's solution for mobile is very good."
"The stability and scalability are really cool; that's the beauty of MicroStrategy, and data-wise it beats all odds."

Cons

"When the source is big and/or the source is Netsuite there are issues."
"The default color pallets could be improved, and they are improving with each version."
"Something I would be interested in is more visualizations, because right now we use SDK to create some. If there were more out-of-the-box options, we would be happy with that."
"I would like to see a single standalone application to control everything from the administration perspective, and also to develop new applications."
"I would give the solution a seven out of 10 for now."
"After casting about, we learned that we had to add a Report Services license for each Store Manager in order to support the posting of docs and dashboards to a server folder and distribute emails with links."
"Support: The support line used to be top notch, but now it seems as though the people manning that line are not very knowledgeable and can very rarely actually answer the question or solve the problem."
"Scalability issues have been the most significant which we have faced."
"Regarding the tickets, I would give the response to them a lukewarm rating."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"The solution is scalable. A little expensive perhaps, but it is scalable."
"The price was good. We have had great support along the way."
"The pricing for MicroStrategy is always on the higher side. They should seriously start thinking about their pricing and licensing strategy."
"The pricing list itself is not publicly accessible, so it's a bit opaque."
"Pricing, in general, is high. With Power BI, you get mobile with the license, whereas with MicroStrategy, you have to purchase mobile for extra."
"Now, the price is high."
"It would be nice if there was a sticker price that says, "This software costs this amount of money." But I think that's just indicative of all software vendors. A lot of people are in it to make money, commissions, so it's just the nature of the business. But I would like to see more transparency, more equality, on pricing. Some people get better deals than others, I think."
"They need to work on their license structure. They are not competitive against somebody like SAP BusinessObjects. We had a quote that was almost a third the price, coming from SAP BusinessObjects, and it's not a better platform. It's not cheaper. They do concurrent user licensing, while MicroStrategy does named user licensing, and that was literally the only difference. But it made a $500,000 difference. They've got to do something to make themselves more competitive. Maybe it's assessing your business users and what you really expect them to use, and maybe giving a reduced price on that. But they are already giving us a 60% discount and they were still a million or so above, over a three-year time period. That doesn't account for synergies as we get from on-site resources that are already available, but I thought that that was a big, big deficit for them."
