Setup is straightforward from a business user standpoint but MAQL needs to be easier.
Cloud connect Report generator MAQL needs to be easier Better row-level security for end-users I've used it for nine months, mainly for implementation and delivery to customers. No issues encountered. No issues encountered. When the source is big and/or the source is Netsuite there are…

I am quite satisfied with the reporting part of the product. However, compared to other tools, the modeling part is not as strong. Data modeling is not as easy on MicroStrategy as it is on other platforms. I have worked with the administration tool and the Architect tool for MicroStrategy, but creating a star schema is not as easy compared to other tools. Creating hierarchies and the modeling part is challenging because data modeling is one of the most important aspects of any BI project. If you can create a star schema or Snowflake schema easily, then report building becomes straightforward. Additionally, MicroStrategy's Workstation tool compared to Developer still lacks some functionality that can be done more easily on the Developer side. Workstation is a great tool, but they have not given it full functionality.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It's a good product for your end to end BI needs when its all on the cloud."
"The solution is a very good enterprise tool with excellent enterprise functionality for security and user access. It also works perfectly in distribution, with everyone getting their own reports. It is very complex, so you can do whatever you want. If you want to make some data limitations, you can do it. I also like the internal in-memory engine with the Symantec layer. This makes the solution pretty powerful."
"It can be applied to a wide range of uses."
"If you are looking into a tool that offers the full suite of business intelligence needs, you will never go wrong with MicroStrategy."
"The reporting, the dashboards, and the new visualization functions. It is very easy for users to understand their data and dashboards."
"In all of the projects for various clients I have worked for, MicroStrategy has improved their functions, as it automates publishing for reports, addresses security, replaces multiple legacy systems with one central system, reduces the maintenance, provides better analytical power to users by letting them slice, dice and drill into the data."
"The stability of the product is good."
"No need to mention how using MSTR has enhanced the process since then but a couple of the key benefits are: Data access not affecting transactional systems (data sources) and complex calculations (SLAs, KPI rules) right there on time when needed and always right or always wrong but centralized in a single place where formulas can be corrected if needed."
"Perfect reports, dashboards and widgets for end users Mobile and web access"

Cons

"When the source is big and/or the source is Netsuite there are issues."
"The solution's licensing could be improved because its cost is heavy on the pockets."
"They need to supply the support system that's just not there right now. They don't have Enterprise Manager classes. You need in-depth classes to understand what those metrics are doing, to understand the table associations from one to the other. You can't just go and pick it up and understand that DT_DAY connects to all of these tables, without going into Architect, looking at the source tables. I, as a analyst, a slightly technical user, I don't have the expertise to do that. Business users definitely don't have the expertise to do that."
"We had some problems with customer service and support."
"Scalability issues have been the most significant which we have faced."
"I am not really a great fan of tech support, because my project's issues didn't get solved or the response was not quick."
"Using this solution means that a company will need to find people with special skills."
"Something I would be interested in is more visualizations, because right now we use SDK to create some. If there were more out-of-the-box options, we would be happy with that."
"The learning curve is quite steep."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"Now, the price is high."
"We are waiting to switch to Microsoft Power BI because MicroStrategy is too costly."
"There have been actual direct bottomline impacts in terms of extra revenue created from the reporting solutions."
"For larger businesses, the pricing is logical."
"The licensing is a bit high per user."
"Pricing, in general, is high. With Power BI, you get mobile with the license, whereas with MicroStrategy, you have to purchase mobile for extra."
"They gave us a good deal."
"The pricing list itself is not publicly accessible, so it's a bit opaque."
