Users only need to install the VPN and authenticate with their email address
I primarily use remote VPN solutions to connect securely. We have configured both site-to-site VPN and remote VPN, and it is connected to FortiClient Implementing this solution has streamlined time management in our organization. Without SSO, we would need manual configuration for each PC, but…

Offers good monitoring features but needs to improve the support services offered
The tool's drawback is that it fails to offer support for Linux. The XDR and licensing parts of the tool are also areas of concern where improvements are required. XDR is for extensive detection and range of response. Jamf relies on signature-based access. If it is a known signature that just protects our devices, it is a kind of threat isolation. The tool does have behavioral analysis, but as the severity becomes less, the system gets loaded. It is not the same with CrowdStrike as it has a variety of strategies and is a fully cloud-native tool, which helps it to make sure it is a leader in Gartner Magic Quadrant. CrowdStrike goes with its set of practicalities. The kind of threat intelligence CrowdStrike follows is really expensive. With CrowdStrike, we can see which factors have been targeted in our organization. If we know our enemy, then it becomes so easy to cover up with the defense mechanism. The features in CrowdStrike get lagged when used with Jamf Protect. With Jamf Protect, there is a need to improve the security it offers.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"When the user gets authenticated, I can assign a different VPN or network to each user."
"The most valuable feature is the single pane of glass, single point of management."
"It is very easy and useful. A normal user with basic information can easily connect to any environment."
"Fortinet FortiClient provides several benefits such as saving time, saving money, and improving security."
"The initial setup is easy."
"It's very stable."
"It supports securely connections for VPN users from outside our environment during the lockdown."
"We mainly use this solution because we have many Fortinet solutions like antivirus and SSL assessment."
"The quick updates are really good. If a new OS update drops today, I'll have the Jamf Protect update within a few hours. It's also compatible with all Mac OS versions, and there's zero lag or performance impact."
"The product's initial setup phase is straightforward and as simple as CrowdStrike."
"The product's initial setup phase has very simple steps."
"The behavioral detection is valuable."
"The tool's tech support is helpful and efficient. It also has an active community."
"Jamf Protect searches incoming and outgoing traffic for malware to monitor the network for security."
"Jamf Protect is a security product that helps us with CIS benchmarks and threat prevention."
"Jamf Protect's most effective features for threat detection include managing devices and applications, deploying and upgrading the OS, and its overall security features."

Cons

"The quality and response time of the support team must be improved."
"Fortinet frequently releases updates without thorough testing."
"The tool could use more features, such as improved antivirus scanning with filters and application control to manage users. If you don't have FortiGate for web filtering and application control, you can use these in Fortinet FortiClient EMS. This gives you two options: on-site and off-site."
"It would be nice to see more in hand features in terms of the DLP, so that the solution can be integrated with the DLP, as well as more reporting features on the end point."
"For buying or deploying it with additional features, apart from VPN client, web security, or antivirus, I would like to see the USB key blocking function included in this solution for endpoint security. For endpoint security, you need antivirus and all of the features included in antivirus software these days, web security, and USB key locking feature. If it is implemented in a way that in one package, you have all the primary features needed for security these days, it would be nice. All of those features will probably be additionally charged as it is a web security feature on FortiClient."
"Technical support needs to determine priority level based on the cases rather than the support package bundle."
"Its stability can be improved. It is not as reliable as I would like it to be. There are times when things don't work quite right. Our biggest pain point is not related to Fortinet FortiClient and the whole scheme of things. It is related to one of the additional services called FortiGuard. They are the arm that does all of the updates to definitions, keeps all the signatures updated, and responds to new threats and whatnot. What we have found is that they react quickly, but sometimes their solutions aren't compatible with all of the components of the Fortinet security suite, specifically around FortiSandbox."
"Sometimes users stay on the old version of FortiClient. When new releases are not compatible, I need to reinstall newer versions, which can be problematic."
"The dependency on Jamf Pro or SIEM or SOAR for some automations and integrations could be reduced."
"The scope of improvement will fall under the support hierarchy that the tool offers to the latest version that Apple derives for any of the latest operating systems to launch."
"The tool's drawback is that it fails to offer support for Linux."
"Beginners need initial training."
"The product's price is an area of concern where improvements are required."
"Jamf Protect protects just Mac devices, and we would love to have one solution for other platforms and not just Mac devices."
"The solution's integration with other tools is slow."
"I'd really like to see some data loss prevention (DLP) capabilities. More visibility into user activity on laptops would be helpful."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Licensing was free up to ten users and after that, it was pretty reasonable."
"It is a yearly subscription license. I don't see a problem with the pricing. Resellers add their markup and then give it to us, but I don't see that as a major challenge. It is fine."
"Fortinet requires you to buy a lot of product in order for you to have proper protection."
"The licensing fee varies with what one is trying to accomplish. It can range from being free to costing several hundred thousand dollars per year."
"The price is okay and competitive."
"The cost per port is very less as compared to the other technologies."
"An annual license costs about 1.5 to 3,000 US dollars. There are no additional costs."
"FortiClient is costly."
"I rate the product price as a five on a scale of one to ten, where one is a low price, and ten is a high price."
"The licensing costs are yearly and expensive."
"The product is not an averagely priced tool."
"It's significantly cheaper than other options like ApexOne."
"Jamf Protect is an expensive solution."
"Jamf Protect costs double the price that we were paying before."
