SAP Data Services and Fivetran compete in the data integration and ETL space. Fivetran appears to have an edge in ease of use and scalable pricing, appealing to diverse user needs.
Features: SAP Data Services offers robust data migration and integration, extensive database support, and multi-user security. It seamlessly integrates with SAP systems and provides strong ETL functionality, data cleansing, and traceability tools. Fivetran provides easy setup, fast data replication, and managed pipelines. It integrates well with various data sources and supports automatic synchronization with DBT for data transformation.
Room for Improvement: Users suggest improving SAP Data Services' web services integration, error logging, and cloud support. Enhancing dynamic scheduling and technical support response times is needed. Fivetran faces cost issues for high data volumes and limited customization. It requires better real-time data processing, expanded connectors, and improved logging features.
Ease of Deployment and Customer Service: SAP Data Services, mainly on-premises, suits SAP environments but presents deployment complexity. Its support is reliable yet occasionally slow. Fivetran, cloud-based, offers flexible remote deployment, is intuitive, and provides efficient support, though customization handling needs improvement.
Pricing and ROI: SAP Data Services is considered expensive, beneficial for large enterprises but potentially costly for smaller ones. Its usage-based pricing offers flexibility with high data demands increasing costs. Fivetran's competitive pricing benefits extensive usage but could be expensive for small volumes. It offers substantial ROI through reduced setup time and maintenance.
Fivetran provides time savings, cost reductions, and improvements in data quality.
It saves us the effort of having one to two data engineers managing the tasks that Fivetran handles.
SAP is indeed good at all this now, with so many components such as SAP Signavio, SAP EINS, SAP Work Zone, SAP ALM, Cloud ALM, SAP public cloud, SAP private cloud, and BTP, all of which are essential to meet the latest cutting-edge technologies.
If they could provide support more quickly, that would be great.
The technical support provided by Fivetran has generally been good, with a response time and competence that I would rate as good.
Customer support from Fivetran is quite good; it's really nice and responsive.
If you keep a high priority issue, such as a production impact, they certainly come and address it in no time.
Unlike level one where they basically search for the notes and provide responses, level two and level three are much better.
Fivetran's scalability has been tested effectively, and it has been working well for our organization's growing data needs.
If I were to rate it from one to 10, I would say it has a nine to 10 for scalability.
They have 99.9% accuracy on the data load and they maintain transparency.
In my experience, Fivetran is stable with very few instances of downtime or reliability issues.
During the duration of the time that we used Fivetran, it was highly stable.
I would rate the stability of SAP Data Services as very stable, a ten.
From a cost perspective, if the number of connectors is lesser, then Fivetran is not the most cost-efficient option.
When we tried to use a built-in Oracle connector, it didn't allow for the tweaks we needed, which led us to the SDK connector route and caused delays in development.
Fivetran could improve by adapting more for technical users and by providing more options for such users.
Now, they are coming up with many pricing options, which is tricky; they offer one thing for free, but charge for nine others.
SAP Data Services does handle integration with third-party systems.
The documentation is not up to the mark.
Our current yearly contract for Fivetran is approximately $70,000.
The most valuable feature of Fivetran is its built-in connectors for a wide range of data sources.
The real-time data replication is what I see best in the market where it reduces the overhead of customers needing to maintain the pipeline.
Fivetran not only has built-in connectors but also provides SDK connectors, allowing us to develop our own connectors in an easy manner.
SAP Data Services is mainly used for extraction of data, and it works with all databases.
I really appreciate the many custom functions that exist and the ease of connecting to different SAP connections.
