Manager, SAP Practice at a computer software company with 1,001-5,000 employees
Has consistently provided impressive data handling capabilities and robust security features
Some of the most valuable features of SAP Data Services include data extraction where SAP is the best in that perspective, but when it comes to analytics or the reporting tool, I prefer to connect with Microsoft Power BI, which is a fantastic tool. Typically, from an end-user perspective, SAP has a huge amount of data, in terms of terabytes of data, but when you analyze that, the best form of visualization is always through Microsoft Power BI. SAP Data Services provides a best-in-class return on investment, as SAP's vision and forecast are absolutely amazing. They are ahead of technology, building an ecosystem that meets the standards of the fast-changing digital economy. SAP is indeed good at all this now, with so many components such as SAP Signavio, SAP EINS, SAP Work Zone, SAP ALM, Cloud ALM, SAP public cloud, SAP private cloud, and BTP, all of which are essential to meet the latest cutting-edge technologies.

Offers predefined rules and easy to migrate data with minimum customisation of rules
The customization of the data needs improvement. We need to build basic SQL queries rather than being able to do it within the tool. We need to be able to analyze the SQL queries and then rerun them based on customer usage. We should be able to tune the existing process by using simple SQL queries based on the customer's requirements. In future releases, I would like to see more features around Preload and postload reports. From the end-user point of view, it is not very feasible to read. I need to know how the data has been migrated. I need to know whether the complete data has been migrated, only the required data has been migrated, and how it was migrated. So the postload reports will give validation between the source data and the target source. It would give exact picture of the data migration.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution is easy to use since it's a graphical tool. It also requires only low-level coding."
"The logic is also simple. It makes it easy to build your extraction."
"Having different ways of extracting data has been very useful; we can extract data at a table level, extract data at the ETL level, and we can extract data at an ODP level."
"Once you have training on the solution, it is very important to explore the full potential of the product rather than jumping right into development."
"The most valuable features of the solution are extraction and data transformations."
"Doing De-Deduplication of data for Data Cleansing is much easier and has been revolutionised with Data Services, especially used in conjunction with SAP Information Stewards."
"It's easy to understand and deploy, it's easy to create new applications, and depending on the complexity of the application, it is easy to deploy the new requirements."
"Customer Service: 100% as no manual intervention is required once the solution is implemented."
"The major benefits of Syniti Data Quality stem from the productivity and flexibility it offers to users."
"Syniti has built-in 80% of the solution, and we only need to customize 20 to 25% of the features. It is easy to run and pre-load reports."
"With Syniti Data Quality, you can integrate SAP and directly fix errors from Syniti Data Quality instead of logging into SAP and then fixing them."
"The customer service and support is good."

Cons

"SAP Data Services should be made a web-based solution."
"There are a lot of version improvements in the years and makes it hard to sync up with older versions of the same tool."
"The migration of the solution between different environments is quite complex."
"Sudden crashing of DS making unsaved changes lost, happens usually when logged in for a long amount of time."
"There are still a lot of glitches with SAP Data Services as of now."
"I think it has a little trouble handling more users running parallel batch jobs in one job server but minimal."
"They could make it easier to work with web services."
"The support is poor because of the time and the knowledge of the support team."
"It would be good if Syniti Data Quality could integrate more AI in the future."
"In Syniti Data Quality, data extraction is an area with certain shortcomings where improvements are required."
"The customization of the data needs improvement. We need to build basic SQL queries rather than being able to do it within the tool. We need to be able to analyze the SQL queries and then rerun them based on customer usage."
"The loading mechanisms and administration processes, particularly in setting up connections and deploying the system, need improvement."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I rate the product price as one or two on a scale of one to ten, where one is a low price, and ten is a high price."
"At the entry level, if you're using it only for data integration, it is a little bit cheap. However, for large organizations it can be expensive. There are additional costs apart from the license."
"The pricing is a little high to make the product more competetive in the marketplace."
"The product’s on-premise version is expensive for a medium-sized company."
"The license price is expensive but medium to large-scale companies, should be able to afford it. Other solutions, such as Talend are easier to afford for smaller companies. Depending on the sources of the data where you are receiving your data you could be paying for more than one license."
"The price is very reasonable."
"Pricing is good, there is no problem."
"The enterprise version of SAP Data Services is free."
"The solution is expensive."
"I would rate the pricing a six out of ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive."
