Logging and vector search have transformed observability and empowered reliable ai agents
Elastic Search is not specifically being used for certain purposes. I deploy Elastic Search database on the cloud and use cloud services so that nobody can attack. However, I do not use Elastic Search to resolve attack issues. The basic main purpose of Elastic Search, as of now, I feel it can do more in the AI area. Sometime I saw that when I am developing RAG and have to generate the embeddings, which I call metadata, sometimes it tries to fail. That durability or issue handling should be improved, but apart from that, I did not find anything as of now. As per my use case, whatever I am using seems pretty good. Apart from that, some definitely improvement will be there. One improvement is that it should be faster. Whenever I am searching any logs, it takes much time. For example, if I open my log in Notepad or a similar tool, I can search the text within a second. With Elastic Search, it takes a little bit of time, ten to fifteen seconds. That can be improved. Sometimes, engineers take time to assign when I create a ticket.

Fast and efficient enterprise search application with query support in 40 different languages
A very good enterprise search application. Search results are produced pretty fast and the contents gets re-index quite often which ensures that the search results are not stale. The Administrative Interface is very easy to use and has a lot of useful information. The number of pages crawled by google search appliance is quite high compared other tools in the same domain. Another good feature of Google search appliance is that, the search index keeps getting updated for every update to any doc and removal of any doc actual clears the corresponding entry in the search index ensuring that non-existent entries don't show up in the results page. Search results can be grouped in various collections e.g. university collections, medical collections etc. Google Search Appliance very smartly handles the synonyms, as can be seen in the "narrow your search" feature. Indexing of content can be easily configured by specifying URLs

Cons

"It was not possible to use authentication three years back. You needed to buy the product's services for authentication."
"It is hard to learn and understand because it is a very big platform. This is the main reason why we still have nothing in production. We have to learn some things before we get there."
"Elastic needs to work on their Machine Learning offering because currently they have been trying to make it a black box which doesn't work for a serious user (a Data Scientist) as it doesn't give any control over the underlying algorithm."
"The documentation regarding customization could be better."
"I think Elastic Search could be improved by introducing more AI features, particularly for complex queries and aggregator functions to enhance usability and readability."
"We have an issue with the volume of data that we can handle."
"I found an issue with Elasticsearch in terms of aggregation. They are good, yet the rules written for this are not really good."
"I want the solution to improve the graph feature because it is a little bit poor."
"The ordering of search result is quite random and it is often seen that the most relevant search result is not shown in the top, which is quite confusing."
"Can't customize algorithm. Little bit black box because you can't customize search algorithm."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"ELK has been considered as an alternative to Splunk to reduce licensing costs."
"I rate Elastic Search's pricing an eight out of ten."
"We use the free version for some logs, but not extensive use."
"It can move from $10,000 US Dollars per year to any price based on how powerful you need the searches to be and the capacity in terms of storage and process."
"To access all the features available you require both the open source license and the production license."
"The price of Elasticsearch is fair. It is a more expensive solution, like QRadar. The price for Elasticsearch is not much more than other solutions we have."
"The tool is an open-source product."
"The cost varies based on factors like usage volume, network load, data storage size, and service utilization. If your usage isn't too extensive, the cost will be lower."
