Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable features would be the image recognition and the OCR.""It provides very strong cross-platform support.""The most valuable feature is the ability to create code from a flow chart, and then run the code through it.""DAI's newest release allows us to test via scripts rather than models, because we have done 95 percent of our development in functional, not through modeling. I am really happy that then we can use the controller to run scripts rather than having to translate things to models. There are lots of options.""Good text reading ability.""Its scalability is good. It is useful for desktop applications, and it also uses OCR and does image recognition.""The main feature of Eggplant Test is that it can do fully automated web testing and app testing.""The solution is based on a Windows model, where adding users is just a few clicks. It is easy to manage users and add them."

"It is easy to automate and new personnel can start learning automation using UFT One. You don't have to learn any scripting.""The most valuable features for us are the GUI, the easy identification of objects, and folder structure creation.""The ease of record and playback as well as descriptive programming are the most valuable features of UFT (QTP).""The most valuable feature for me is that it works on multiple platforms and technologies.""With certainty, the best feature of UFT is its compatibility with so many products, tools and technologies. It is a challenge currently to find a single tool on the market besides UFT that will successfully work for so many projects and environments. For example, UFT supports GUI testing of Oracle, PeopleSoft, PowerBuilder, SAP (v7.20), Siebel, Stingray, Terminal Emulator, Putty, and Windows Objects (particularly Dialog Boxes). Furthermore, UFT has the built-in functionality to import Excel input files.""It offers a wide range of testing.""The shared repositories can be used throughout all testing which makes jobs easier.""With frequent releases, using automation to perform regression testing can save us huge amount of time and resources."

Cons
"The reporting function is a bit shallow. The solution does not offer very comprehensive reporting in terms of your test results. The reporting time and the logs are very high level as well. These areas need improvement.""The language is too specific; it is just for Eggplant.""If one area could be improved, it would be some of their documentation. In particular, some of their online help and user support documentation is a little bit out of date and could be revised and updated on a more frequent basis. Other than that, I haven't really found any issues or problems.""There was no free trial in it.""The solution would crash from time to time.""Eggplant Digital Automation Intelligence could improve by lowering the price.""Eggplant Test should emphasize on improving its offering in non-Windows environments.""In terms of additional features, it would be helpful to have one package for all testing. You have the manager, the AI, then you have functional, and about 10 different packages for installing."

More Eggplant Test Cons →

"I'd like to see test case-related reports included in the solution.""The price is very high. They should work to lower the costs for their clients.""Sometimes, the results' file size can be intense. I wish it was a little more compact.""Scripting has become more complex from a maintenance standpoint to support additional browsers.""Sometimes it appears that UFT takes a while to open and sometimes will run slower than expected. Also, UFT uses a lot of memory. On this note, if you are running UFT on a virtual server I would add more RAM memory than the minimum requirements especially when using multiple add-ins. HP is pretty good about coming out with new patches to fix known issues and it pays for the user to check for new patches and updates on a regular basis.""UFT has a recording feature. They could make the recording feature window bigger for whatever activities that I am recording. It would improve the user experience if they could create a separate floating panel (or have it automatically show on the side) once the recording starts.""It could work with more browsers other than Internet Explorer, and could better handle new things like Ext JS.""They need to reduce the cost because it is pretty high. It's approximately $3,000 per user."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It is scalable, but it is a matter of money in the pocket. You can scale it, but then you have to have additional licenses. The licensing approach of eggPlant is not the best."
  • "Make a smart decision about the number of developer- and execution-only licenses you purchase to maximize your budget. We found that going heavier on execution-only licenses has been a way to reduce our costs and maximize our ability to benefit from the software."
  • "End-to-end testing isn't possible for us because of the licensing problems. It's very expensive, so we only have two development/execution licenses."
  • "It probably has a yearly license."
  • "This solution is expensive when compared to the market. However, the reason it is more expensive is because of its stability, high performance, and for its support of any technology."
  • "Eggplant Test is a very expensive solution."
  • More Eggplant Test Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "It took about five years to break even. UFT is costly."
  • "The licensing and pricing model is confusing."
  • "It's an expensive solution."
  • "For the price of five automation licenses, you simply would not be able to hire five manual testers for two years worth of 24/7 manual testing work on demand."
  • "The price is only $3,000. I don't know how many QA analysts you would have in any given company. Probably no more than five or 10. So if it's a large corporation, it can easily afford $15,000 to $25,000. I don't see that being an issue."
  • "The way the pricing model works is that you pay a whole boatload year one. Then, every year after, it is around half or less. Because instead of paying for the new product, you are just paying for the support and maintenance of it. That is probably one of the biggest things that I hear from most people, even at conferences, "Yeah, I would love to use UFT One, but we don't have a budget for it.""
  • "The pricing fee is good. If someone makes use of the solution once a day for a half hour then the fee will be more expensive. For continuous use and application of the solution to different use cases, the fee is average."
  • "The price is one aspect that could be improved."
