Technical support has been pretty good; however, I would like to see better integration with Dell support and the third-party integration for the scanning part of it, specifically Index Engines, but we are getting there.

Room For Improvement

Enhancing Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery requires AI integration, bundling for SMBs, and core feature improvements for better automation and visibility.
Veritas NetBackup Appliance needs user-friendliness, improved cloud integration, better pricing, enhanced scalability, and more accessible management for non-experts.
It would be beneficial to deploy an AI model inside the vault for more accuracy and faster restoration by scanning the data for any anomalies or unusual behavior.
Pre Sales Manager at a tech services company with 51-200 employees
I would like more visibility into what is going on with the individual backup images and how they are being scanned.
Global Head, Storage at a financial services firm with 1,001-5,000 employees
My main problem is with the bare-metal recovery.
System Administrator at De Persgroep Publishing
Veritas NetBackup Appliance can eliminate the Java UI and move everything to the web UI, which is easy, simple to use, and the way forward.
Solutions Architect at Rigor Systems Limited
Improving the interface could enhance user experience.
Senior Manager at Cloud4C Services
The only room for improvement is that the cost per terabyte is extremely high.
ICT Director at SSA

Setup Cost

Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is seen as cost-effective for enterprises, despite concerns over hardware costs with data growth.
Veritas NetBackup Appliance is seen as costly but valued for features, with varied pricing based on storage and maintenance.
I do not consider Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery to be expensive as it provides value relative to the ransom that would need to be paid to restore data and the difficulties faced after an attack.
Pre Sales Manager at a tech services company with 51-200 employees
Regarding pricing, I find it a lot cheaper than Veeam.
System Administrator at De Persgroep Publishing
The pricing for Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is acceptable due to our enterprise licensing agreement, so a lot of what we do is built into the license.
Global Head, Storage at a financial services firm with 1,001-5,000 employees
It's more costly than Commvault, which offers similar features at 70% of the price.
Oracle Technology Manager at MOPCO
It is a high price because the maintenance has a large cost, especially if the appliance is hardware rather than a virtual appliance.
Storage & Backup Engineer at a tech vendor with 10,001+ employees
The price is slightly expensive for small and medium enterprises.
Technical Manager at Rigor Systems Limited

Valuable Features

Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery offers secure isolation, analytics, and fast restoration, enhancing IT infrastructure with ransomware protection and VMware integration.
Veritas NetBackup Appliance offers fast, reliable backups, user-friendly interface, scalability, and supports diverse environments with strong data protection.
The second advantage is restoration, as I can guarantee that the data inside the vault will be clean and can be restored quickly using a golden copy that has been identified as clean.
Pre Sales Manager at a tech services company with 51-200 employees
The main function of cyber recovery, which I find important, is the air gap protection, and that is the most important capability we are using against ransomware protection.
Data Protection Architect at a energy/utilities company with 1,001-5,000 employees
It helps my IT infrastructure be more secure mainly because we have replication of the backups on two physical sites, which is a plus.
System Administrator at De Persgroep Publishing
The biggest advantage is that I do not need to manage backups on traditional tapes, which helps maintain total business continuity.
Deputy Vice President - IT at TransUnion
The encryption feature in Veritas NetBackup Appliance helps protect sensitive information, as there is encryption at rest and encryption in transit from commands sent from server to client.
Storage & Backup Engineer at a tech vendor with 10,001+ employees
The anomaly detection and notifications in Veritas NetBackup Appliance have helped me in my day-to-day work because when I have a server that is being backed up and it has some anomaly, for example, ransomware trying to encrypt it, I will have a considerably different footprint for the server backed up yesterday and the one which has been affected by malware.

Backup and recovery have improved security with VMware integration and faster restore times
Before we start, my only question is that we are only using the Data Protection Manager, so not the full suite. The users using the backup solution mainly consist of me and my colleague. We have integrated it into VMware, so users can restore or take backups of their own VMs, but I am not sure how many are using it because the backups are automatic, and for restores, I think some of them are using them. I would certainly recommend this product for the backup of the VMs, but for the bare metal, I recommend it a little bit less. Overall, I give this solution a rating of eight.

Backup management excels with user-friendly interface and effective deduplication, offering robust data protection
Leveraging AI in Veritas NetBackup Appliance is one of the road maps now that they have done a collaboration with Cohesity, which is a feature I'm looking forward to. Using AI is one improvement I recommend for the Veritas NetBackup Appliance. They have implemented some aspects of AI for features such as malware detection and anomaly detection. I believe they can do more to give customers more insight into their data, allowing them to see it and understand what they can do, such as archiving old data. They can do more by utilizing the data effectively to provide insights to customers about their space usage, future projections, and options for managing old data.
