Gained full visibility and streamlined threat detection through behavior-based insights and AI integration
Initially, we got to have a lot of false positives when we onboarded, but nowadays it's quite smooth. We have fine-tuned our security policies and allowed different levels of policies to get rid of those false positives. Currently, we are getting a fairly good amount of incidents that are not false positives or benign, but actionable items. The process is streamlined. In the initial days, the operations used to get involved in a lot of benign and other activities, but now the process is streamlined. We are leveraging the auto-detection and remediation plans. The operations teams are now more involved in other business roles as well, not just looking into the logs and fetching out what's happening there. They have fixed a lot of things. Initially, they didn't have IAC code drift detection, cloud posture management, or security posture management, but they have those now. They purchased different vendors and did a merger with that. They have now Prisma Cloud that gets integrated and now they are working with Cortex Cloud. Everything that was negative has now been addressed, and the product altogether looks to be in a very better and mature shape now. Currently, it's more or less detecting the workloads with AI-based best practices. Since most organizations are consuming AI agents and other things, we are looking forward to seeing what other feature enhancements Palo Alto can support in that.

A highly scalable tool that ensures its users face no problems while using it as a backup system
The tool is scalable and is currently being used on over 2,000 nodes. So, our company doesn't count the number of clients we have, but we do count the number of nodes, specifically referring to file system nodes, backup nodes, database nodes, virtual machine nodes, and blockchain nodes, which we use for file-based applications. According to the traffic, a backup of five petabytes of data can be done for a month.

Remote access has become seamless and secure while deployment remains simple for our users
Performance could be improved today. People are now moving toward SASE, which stands for Secure Access, Secure Edge Solution. Fortinet also has that offering, which would be easier since it operates through the cloud, acting as a first line of defense. When the user connects to the internet, they connect to the cloud first for posture assessment and monitoring before connecting to the outside world. The impact is significant because nowadays people are adopting SASE. During COVID time, many users were trying to connect back to their office, causing the performance or CPU utilization of the firewall to increase tremendously, which slowed down performance. I have not worked with endpoint telemetry in Fortinet FortiClient that could have been helpful for threat mitigation.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The initial setup is pretty easy."
"It collects and caches and the knowledge of machine learning from different customers to take to the cloud. It makes it better to use for everybody. It allows for quick learning and updates and can, therefore, offer zero-day malware security. This sharing of metadata helps make the solution very safe."
"If any application performs suspicious activities, such as changing registries or modifying other applications, Cortex XDR detects and blocks the entire application."
"The scalability of Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks is very good."
"I can highlight that we have not faced any security incidents with Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks, and even though our environment is quite dynamic, we have not faced any security incident with Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks until now."
"The most valuable feature is that you can select remote access of any machine for sandboxing."
"It blocks malicious files. It prevents attacks. It doesn't require many updates, it's a very light application."
"From a single pane of glass, you can easily manage all of your endpoints."
"Technical support is excellent."
"The backup speed and deduplication are the most valuable features."
"Dell Data Protection has a decent service and integrates well with users' active directories."
"There's a really they have a really nice way to test it first. Before you adopt it. And so I would suggest trying to they they create a test site for you, and they give you a link to it, and you can basically try out all the features on your own for I think we did it for a month."
"It is a stable solution."
"The most valuable features of the solution are its speed, backup speed, and restore speed."
"The security engine is effective at catching potential threats."
"It is a stable solution. Our company faces no problems with the backup system…The initial setup wasn't complex."
"From my perspective as an end user, it's consistently stable, and I would rate the stability as a nine out of ten."
"The connection speed is fast, I can connect quickly at any time, and there are never any interruptions to the FortiClient connection, so I could easily code into the client's server with that connection with no lag."
"The most valuable feature of FortiClient is its high security level."
"For our clients with remote sites and deployed firewalls, the filtering and authentication features are very helpful."
"It is completely user-friendly and less time-consuming, and users can improve their production time greatly."
"It's a good solution."
"The first thing I really appreciate about Fortinet FortiClient is their preventive protection; even if a new virus is released, they have a preventive mechanism built into their client, which works along with the firewall, so it automatically gets stopped."
"FortiClient's most valuable features are that it's fast and safe."

Cons

"It'll help if customization was easier."
"Cortex does not offer an on-premises solution. However, some customers would prefer not to be on the cloud. It would be ideal if it could offer something on-prem as well."
"Based on our experience so far, its implementation is quite complex."
"Additionally, I think the price is very high, and if it can be adjusted, I believe it will be a very good solution."
"The solution should force customers to integrate with network traffic to see the full benefits of XDR."
"While using Cortex, I noticed some aspects that could be improved, such as increasing the synchronization speed between XDR and Xnor."
"There are some false positives."
"It would be good to have a better way to search for a file within the UI."
"The solution’s user interface should be made more user-friendly."
"Whenever we talk about reporting, I have a chance to look at the reporting, and in my opinion, it's not user-friendly."
"I consider the product pretty expensive, so from an improvement perspective, I would like the pricing to be better."
"The backup speed and deduplication are the most valuable features."
"The restore feed needs improvement."
"Implementation in a beta environment is necessary before rollout to the larger community."
"The solution could be more user-friendly."
"FortiClient's encryption key could be stronger so that it's not broken too easily."
"Improvements are needed in the compatibility between different versions, as sometimes the latest version does not work, requiring a downgrade."
"Its stability can be improved. It is not as reliable as I would like it to be. There are times when things don't work quite right. Our biggest pain point is not related to Fortinet FortiClient and the whole scheme of things. It is related to one of the additional services called FortiGuard. They are the arm that does all of the updates to definitions, keeps all the signatures updated, and responds to new threats and whatnot. What we have found is that they react quickly, but sometimes their solutions aren't compatible with all of the components of the Fortinet security suite, specifically around FortiSandbox."
"They have an EDR feature for end protection detection and response, and this is actually with an add-on subscription, which is charged separately. What I would like to see is this included with the base cost."
"FortiClient is not great in Linux."
"The licensing feature of the product requires improvement since whenever the license expires, the tool logs out its users automatically, irrespective of whether they are on the network or not, which can be problematic for me."
"The solution has some stability issues on the user side but is improving."
"I would like to see an improvement in the web filter, because I think it can be more user-friendly."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing is okay, although direct support can be expensive."
"The price of the solution could be reduced. I have customers that have voiced that the solution is good for the value but if I want to sell more of the solution the price reduction would help."
"The price was fine."
"Very costly product."
"The pricing is a little bit on the expensive side."
"Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks is quite an expensive solution."
"The cost of Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks is $55 to $90 USD per endpoint per month."
"Cortex XDR's pricing is ok."
"You'll need to pay more than the product's original price for the support."
"It is an expensive solution."
"It is more expensive than one of its competitors."
"Pricing is an area that I would like to see improved, as it could be lower."
"If we pay for the yearly package that includes the FortiGate firewall, then the FortiClient VPN license is included with it."

"The licensing fee varies with what one is trying to accomplish. It can range from being free to costing several hundred thousand dollars per year."
