Has improved compliance tracking and reduced recovery time for on-premise environments
The product includes a compliance management feature. Through the Dell account manager, customization is made, as the automated orchestration feature in the product helps to minimize human error during the recovery process. We send a Live Optics invitation to customers, and this file collects data from the customer, including input and output per second and the uses of capacity, disk, and core used in the environment. We collect this data by the Live Optics tools and send this report to the account manager, who can size the solution after that. The installation process for Dell Cloud Disaster Recovery is easy, and we already have the experience for installation and implementation. If we need any help, we have engineers in the distributor company in Egypt. We already have the Dell deployment option, which can be offered from day one from the Dell configurator, so implementation is not a problem.

Has enabled seamless VM management and automated failover while support response needs improvement
For support issues, they help with the issue, but it takes a very long time. The reason is that they engage a very initial resource and then escalate to another level, and during these level escalations, our time is wasted. They do not understand the severity of the issue. They go through step-by-step and then go to the upper level. This may be their SOP, but we require instant support and instant resolution of the problem, so here VMware Live Recovery is lacking. They follow their SOP, but they initially engage very low-level personnel who are not able to answer or resolve the issue, so they escalate or take a very long time to resolve the issue. The main issue is to improve the approach of resolving solutions. I may not be able to suggest new features because in these recent months, I have not been very close to it as we are exploring different solutions.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The technical support from Dell Technologies is the best option."
"My impression is that the initial setup process is relatively straightforward."
"The replication part of SRM is really good, as we once had our production site collapse completely and we were able to recover all the data, so the restore level of the application is very good."
"This is the most stable solution that I have seen."
"VMware SRM's most valuable features are its convenience and its use of stretched clusters."
"It is a very stable solution...I was involved in VMware SRM's deployment phase two years ago, and it was an easy process."
"Its capability to schedule, write and configure the recovery and scheduled steps, such that you don't have to come in and start manually trying to recover the entire machine. You just push a button to recover the VMware and everything is done."
"The stability is great, there are no bugs or glitches, it does not crash or freeze, and it is reliable."
"This disaster recovery solution helps our clients with their mission-critical projects, allowing them to maintain business continuity and increase the reliability of their services."

Cons

"A negative aspect of Dell Cloud Disaster Recovery is that it requires maintaining stock. In the Middle East, it takes much more time to get this product to the customer, between four and six months, which is a long time for the customer to wait."
"I would say VMware has room for improvement with this product."
"I would like to see better integration with other storage solutions. I would hope to see that within the next two or three years."
"Unfortunately, SRM is not stable and it therefore requires continuous monitoring."
"For cloud-based solutions, the cost seems quite pricey, so we stick to on-premises deployment."
"We are limited to 50 VMs."
"If you have a failover case, you need to work on it manually. It would be helpful if this could be automated. It would simplify things."
"The infrastructure of the solution needs to be more software-based"
"The back sites sometimes are very, very complicated."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"I rate the solution's pricing a six on a scale of one to ten, where one is the lowest and ten is the most expensive."
"The price could be lower, in general. My clients pay for an annual license."
"The licensing costs for the product are perpetual in nature. A person needs to buy the license only once there is a need to buy support on a yearly basis. The licensing cost for VMware SRM is expensive."
"Mature products like VMware SRM often have higher costs."
"It is reasonably priced, and its cost hasn't been a significant factor in our implementation."
"The software is expensive. There is a one-time cost involved in purchasing the license."
"The price of VMware Cloud Disaster Recovery should be lowered in order to compete better in the market."
"Licensing costs explode after 75 VMs."
