Improved data governance has enabled sensitive data tracking but cost management still needs work
I believe we could improve Databricks integration with cloud service providers. The impact of our current integration has not been particularly good, and it's becoming very expensive for us. The inefficiencies in our implementation, such as not shutting down warehouses when they're not in use or reserving the right number of credits, have led to increased costs. We made several beginner mistakes, such as not taking advantage of incremental loading and running overly complicated queries all the time. We should be using ETL tools to help us instead of doing it directly in Databricks. We need more experienced professionals to manage Databricks effectively, as it's not as forgiving as other platforms such as Snowflake. I think introducing customer repositories would facilitate easier implementation with Databricks.

Streamlines secure card data queries and has revealed performance limits that need improvement
The best features Hasura offers are the permissions and the ability to connect to the database seamlessly when we use GraphQL, which Hasura handles exceptionally well. These features impact my day-to-day work positively, as they are tremendously helpful at the application level architecture design. However, the disadvantage revolves around performance. You need to upgrade to the Enterprise version to achieve better performance and ensure proper memory is assigned in your hosting container for optimal speed as required. Hasura impacts our organization positively by being extremely useful. When we create multiple actions and cache them with Hasura, the caching has proven to be more than helpful. Furthermore, integrating OpenTelemetry into our Node application with Hasura has the added benefit of tracking Hasura calls directly, which helps us monitor our performance effectively.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It is a cost-effective solution."
"Stability of the product is good, whether it's handling large volumes, diverse elements of data or processing data at speed."
"The most valuable feature is the versatility of the ecosystem."
"Its lightweight and fast processing are valuable."
"Databricks has helped us have a good presence in data."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to use SQL directly with Databricks."
"The integration with Python and the notebooks really helps."
"The solution is very easy to use."
"My experience with Hasura was positive, and it has helped us accelerate development and reduce the effort around exposing and maintaining APIs."
"Earlier, we took around maybe two days to create some APIs and set up DB and other things; in Hasura we can create tables and relationships and APIs in the end, and DB creation, configuration, and deletion of rows are very easy, so where two days were taken, now we can do it in half to one day at max, and in development effort, very much time is saved and the execution is fast."
"Hasura positively impacted our organization through useful access control, allowing us to directly obtain data without extra layers of access control processes, which increased efficiency and speed."
"Hasura offers excellent features including role-based filtering, which eliminates the N+1 problem, making it easy to maintain schemas and ensuring fast retrieval and fast mutations."
"My advice to others looking into using Hasura is to directly use it since it is a very good application with high performance and scalability."
"Hasura offers fast prototyping, allowing me to have an instance and an API set up with Docker Compose in five minutes."
"Hasura impacts our organization positively by being extremely useful."
"Hasura greatly reduced the time to deliver and also definitely increased the productivity as a result."

Cons

"The data visualization for this solution could be improved. They have started to roll out a data visualization tool inside Databricks but it is in the early stages. It's not comparable to a solution like Power BI, Luca, or Tableau."
"If I want to create a Databricks account, I need to have a prior cloud account such as an AWS account or an Azure account. Only then can I create a Databricks account on the cloud. However, if they can make it so that I can still try Databricks even if I don't have a cloud account on AWS and Azure, it would be great. That is, it would be nice if it were possible to create a pseudo account and be provided with a free trial. It is very essential to creating a workforce on Databricks. For example, students or corporate staff can then explore and learn Databricks."
"Can be improved by including drag-and-drop features."
"Databricks' performance when serving the data to an analytics tool isn't as good as Snowflake's."
"Data governance should be addressed. We have some trouble connecting all the governance solutions with Databricks, which means the integrative capabilities are problematic."
"The first deployment is difficult. It is not straightforward and you have to think about a lot of stuff."
"Databricks would have more collaborative features than it has. It should have some more customization for the jobs."
"I would like it if Databricks adopted an interface more like R Studio. When I create a data frame or a table, R Studio provides a preview of the data. In R Studio, I can see that it created a table with so many columns or rows. Then I can click on it and open a preview of that data."
"The learning curve for Hasura is not straightforward, so it takes time to learn."
"I am concerned about the LTS that Hasura has for the Community version until January 2027, which is a pain point for us and makes us reconsider the project's architecture."
"The graphical user interface, the web interface that is offered is particularly very slow if you have a lot of endpoints configured."
"Hasura can be improved in a way such that the setup process could be improved, and the loggings and Hasura logs could be improved."
"Regarding needed improvements, the complex business logic, nested joins, and over-fetching need to be addressed."
"Hasura could improve by allowing us to build complex queries within it instead of depending on source databases, which might affect response speed."
"One area where Hasura can improve is handling complex business logic, and for observability and debugging, improvement is needed."
"I'm a bit worried about the LTS that Hasura has, the Community version, until January 2027, which is a very big pain point for us and makes us rethink the project's architecture a bit."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The licensing costs of Databricks is a tiered licensing regime, so it is flexible."
"I do not exactly know the costs, but one of our clients pays between $100 USD and $200 USD monthly."
"The solution is based on a licensing model."
"It is an expensive tool. The licensing model is a pay-as-you-go one."
"We have only incurred the cost of our AWS cloud services. This is because during this period, Databricks provided us with an extended evaluation period, and we have not spent much money yet. We are just starting to incur costs this month, I will know more later on the full cost perspective."
"I rate the price of Databricks as eight out of ten."
"The cost for Databricks depends on the use case. I work on it as a consultant, so I'm using the client's Databricks, so it depends on how big the client is."
"I would rate Databricks' pricing seven out of ten."
