Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It is easy to use and stable. It delivers what has been promised. When it says it can do something, it can actually do it, as opposed to some of its competitors.""Commvault can perform a backup no matter where you are, and it takes a backup every four hours. No matter when you come to the office, it'll take a backup if you're connected to the internet and check the system for online availability.""Commvault is a very stable product.""It helped us reduce the number of servers that are required for a stable operation.""This product has allowed us to recover data when we've had issues.""Commvault is very simple to use and it is automated.""The solution is very stable and offers a good level of performance.""The diversity on offer is very, very good. Everything is supported. It's great."

"Technical support is good.""The extensive information provided on tool properties has been very useful, specifically the information on databases""It's a good product that can be integrated easily with the Data domain.""When you reach out to your maximum license availability, or you exceed your license limit, NetWorker never stops doing your backups.""There are no problems in terms of stability.""The GUI is user-friendly.""The software implementation takes about 30 minutes.""Dell EMC NetWorker is scalable."

Cons
"Could be easier to implement.""I would like to see a more user-friendly GUI.""Commvault's price is quite high.""There are two ways to use it and I prefer the web-based one over the app. I wish they were a little bit more matched in what they offer because the features aren't as available in the web-based interface as they are in the app.""The initial installation is straightforward and took approximately two days. However, the process could be more simple.""I would like to have a manager-level dashboard to review the backups. This is not from an administrative perspective where you can see the details of the execution. Rather, it would only show the percentage of completeness for each one.""Its dashboard could be improved to provide a summarized version of all the jobs instead of having to go through each one of them. We should easily be able to glance at all issues. If I had not gone with the on-premise version, I would have had regular reports with the cloud version. It would be an advantage if they increase the compression rate of the backup. I am keeping it on-prem, so I'll need more disks depending on the policies that I have in the retention period. Its price could also be lower. If a good solution can be cheaper, it is always an advantage.""Our main pain point is that some of our hardware is old. For example, the SSD disks for our application database are slow. It's hard to avoid a slowdown in our environment because the size of our backups is growing every year. If you're growing and don't upgrade the environment, you will see slower backups and restores. You must enhance the environment if you are growing."

"The user interface of this solution could be improved. It is not user friendly and is difficult to understand for new users. New users struggle to understand the logic.""When you're working with VMware, you need to use vProxy machines. You have to install the vProxy for every host in the VMware environment.""It's complex in nature.""In the next release, I would like to see better pricing and more integration with the other products in Dell EMC.""The web console could be a lot better.""The user interface is hard to use, it should be simplified. There are a lot of web-based management interfaces which they should consider.""I would like to see encryption included in the next release to encrypt the data that we are backing up.""The user interface has to be improved"

    Overview

Commvault® Complete Data Protection is a data protection and information management solution that runs on a single platform with a unified code base. Commvault enables companies worldwide to protect, access, and use all their data, anywhere and anytime, turning data into a powerful strategic asset. Commvault provides the resources and expertise to accelerate the return to normal business operations after a data loss event or an attack.

After installing the Commvault software, the data is processed by the agent software on client computers and backed up through the “MediaAgent” (Commvault’s data manager) to a hard disk or to cloud storage. All activity in the environment is backed up by a centralized server. Commvault users can then access the protected data using web browsers from desktop or mobile devices. The Commvault software is available across both cloud and on-premises environments.

    Commvault Complete Data Protection Features:

    Reviews from Real Users

Commvault stands out among its competitors for a number of reasons. Some of the major ones are its backup, recovery, and data protection features as well as its centralized management.

Sheron B. a systems engineer at PAREXEL International Corporation writes, “I like that you have complete hooks into and total control of your data. The data is well-protected. It doesn't age off until it's copied. That's a big feature right there. When you reach the end of your retention, it does not expire until the secondary copy is completed. That allows you to hold onto data that otherwise would have aged off by retention. I like that feature. It's hard to just delete or lose data using the Commvault platform.

PeerSpot users note the effectiveness of Commvault. An engineer at a tech services company writes, "When it comes to recovery, Commvault is undeniably one of the best technologies out there. It's got all the different granularity levels that a business requires to get your information back to production. For example, we have their commission discovery, individual items recovery, mailbox recovery, databases, and different tables. Some databases can be recovered individually. This level of granularity enables us to get the most value out of the product."
